Just got the extremely slow coolant leak from the 2007 Ford Taurus thermostat housing gasket fixed, the mechanic also put the correct thermostat in it (meaning the heater now works). I also had the coolant reservoir replaced because it was opaque as hell and about to crack. Total damage was $220.

I feel the coolant issues. I'm pretty sure it was around the middle of December last year that my Buick decided it'd be fun to explode the coolant elbows and water pump when it was barely double digits, and now my Focus has a cracked radiator tank.

Money well spent.
Follow the severe duty maintenance schedule in the manual and cars can last a long time.
Yup, even Fords.

Oh yeah, incase you have been living under a rock. The McRib has been back for about a week now.

What do y'all think about the new Honda Accord? I've got the 2007 Ford Taurus seen in my new profile pic. It's actually great except for the whopping 23mpg. The AC works (heat does not really work), it shifts nice, and it does not leak. Despite that, I know a 16+ year old car like that can't run forever, especially not when I often put 50 miles a day on it and it already has 185k miles.
At my current job I've been making $40/h and have been saving a lot of money. If my car died tomorrow, I could do a massive down payment and be at work the next day. The lowest end Accord is something like $28k, I have a little over $10k in free cash at the moment that isn't even in my savings. I have good credit at 760.
Ideally, this Taurus keeps going for a note 2-3 years and I can pick up a gently used 2024 Accord and pay for most of it up front. Of course I would get a white one.

New cars are one of the worst financial decisions you can make. The car you own is solid still and routine maintenance can make it easily last years longer. 23mpg isn't bad at all either, for perspective the best selling car in america the 2023 F-150 which almost 600,000 were purchased in 2023 gets 18mpg... Don't live based upon fear, stick with your plan of saving for 2-3 years and getting a used newer car.
Absolutely. Have no intention of just going to a dealer now and buying a new car. But I am lookin at the Taurus like an 80 year old grandma. It’s gonna keep running for a while longer. Exactly how much longer is unclear

2013 accord sport owner here.
I purchased at 35K and now have 155K on her. Other than a couple of valve train issues that were about $400 to have repaired, and rebuilding second gear (manual transmission, 100% my fault no-lift shifting it also about $400), the car has been dead reliable and still looks great. People are always surprised with how old and how many miles are on it.
That said, I agree with waiting till the Taurus gives up the ghost and I would buy a used accord and save yourself a lot of $$$ on depreciation.

Seems like macOS still has issues recovering the space from deleted Bootcamp partitions. I used the Bootcamp utility to delete the partition, but it could not merge the free space back into the macOS side. Had to use recovery to format and install macOS again. Thankfully TimeMachine had me up and running just as I had been before.
