yeah the 20 lane limit for skylake is keeping me from getting it. im still thinking about a 5930K as the 40 lanes.... or I wait for broadwell E. I wonder if that will have DMI 3 or a new chipset or will that us X99 still?

2) It's a negative that the power supply is separate? Seriously? That is a plus! Gets the heat away, makes the monitor smaller, and if the power supply fails, which is the #1 most likely thing TO fail in a monitor, you can get another one without having to RMA an entire monitor! Wtf.. how is it a negative?
 
I think I'm done with Linus' reviews.. lacking information and just straight up wrong priorities

That is a terrible product. 
1080P at that price is equal to LG 34" curved. when I just checked Newegg

So lets analyse this review. 
Linus prefaces it with. Every time you are sold a product "For Gaming" it usually sucks.
He then goes on about how good this product is colour wise. which is fine. 

says there are not enough pixels. 

he also says he's sick (while slamming fist) of marketers saying things are optimised for gaming. Well he does exactly that at the end of the video. WTF Linus. He then asks what does that even mean. Well you just said it at the end its your new gaming monitor? 

And then says the resolution is silly for that size of screen. But then at the end endorses the product saying its his new "gaming monitor" 

I mean which is it Linus ? 
and for $900-1,099 did you get to keep this as well Linus? 

Or did you guys buy it? This is the important thing regarding disclosure 

so I spoke to Ultimaker on Twitter. And yes they confirmed that they gave the unit for LTT to keep, and to do a segment, review, piece whatever. And they look forward to seeing what he can do to show off the Ultimaker. 
we know this requires disclosure. 
I dont care he got the unit at all. its cool! 

but if he is supposed to do a review. and he was given this EXPENSIVE item for free to keep. then saying 
Ultimaker offered it, or sent us, or gave us a chance. Is far too loose 

it needs to be stated. Ultimaker gave us this to keep in exchange for us to do this video, to do a review, and what teh expectations were. so we the audience (the TARGET) knows why!

if you're buying a 6700K you should be looking at a 5820K in the first place...
 
But that aside, it depends on if the slots use chipset lanes or CPU lanes. If you throw in two M.2 SSDs using 4x PCI/e lanes into slots that use from the CPU, that leaves 12 lanes for SLI which is too few.
 
If you toss it into two slots which run at 2x each, then you're fine.
 
If you toss it into two slots which use chipset lanes, then fine.
 
but either way, there's almost no reason whatsoever to get a 6700K over a 5820K.

so I have been trying to get Linus and Luke to start acknowledging the boundaries at which their company/ channel needs to start disclosing wheather they are paid for their videos by the products or the companies that get them to review the products. in exchange for free hardware/software. or any exchange of goods for the reviews LTT does. 

some very interesting things have happened last few days regarding this 
The FCC and the FTC publicly branded Machinima for participating in deceptive ad practices pertaining to the Xbox 1 launch. 
where they got the reviewers to make videos abt Xbox 1. and imposed limits and restrictions on what could be said etc. and also compensated them for every 1,000 views. 

This reveals a very dark spot in the review world. One that I have become increasingly frustrated with. 
Because Im subscribed to Jay, Linus, Hardware Cunucks. pauls hardware etc. And the other week. I had 5 videos in a row reviewing the exact same case. 

It's clear the marketing teams of the companies have purchased spots on these channels before launch, and had them review it. 

except. They were all paid for the reviews. This is illegal. Its not allowed in real television, and most people dont know this. but the FCC and FTC rule it on the internet as well. 

The issues I have with this are clear. The channel exposure for LTT is HUGE. and to companies Linus and Luke are called "influencers" in the marketing world. Because when they have something to say. The audience will base their decisions off of what these guys and other youtubers etc have to say. 

This is what we call a "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" 

And I must say I have been getting lots of ridicule on the LTT youtube comments about it. however this weeks ruling by the FTC AND FCC show that this practice is not to be done anymore. And youtube and the FCC/FTC have pledged to start going after influencers that do this sort of thing. 

The issue comes to disclosure. 
take the GPU boost video just done. 
Luke mentions that Nvidia gave them 6 Titan X's for their workstations. and LTT have done numerous reviews for Nvidia hardware. 
It may not be relevant in this video. But how are we to know if they are being paid to make these or they are just doing it. WE DONT 
And  this is where the lines are mudded up. 

this needs to change and it will as the relevant authorities are now as I said cracking down on it. 

And I must say that. in the GPU video launched today. I am seeing a lot of backlash regarding the way this channel has become. 
every video is just endless infomercials. and done in a terrible way. 
first 20 seconds is an advertisement. followed by the paid/unpaid "review" followed by more ad to close the show 

I really hope Linus sees this, and starts to address it because we need to have disclosure. about exactly why the "review is being done'
it should be disclosed if they keep the product after the review. If they were paid to make the review. or it was done in exchange for any favours . 
Because how are we to know. especially in  such a field where reviews really influence someone's purchase of a product or not.

6 Titan X's is how much? Not to mention all the titan blacks, quadros, motherboards, Zeons, Hawell-E's All the stuff is given to them. and its a huge issue. he probably has 1 million bucks worth of inventory in excahnge for the reviews. thats a HUGE FUCKING DEAL 

I don't see why any of that matters. I think he should be open and clear about when he gets things for free for the purpose of reviewing them.
He does a very good job of this in some videos but I would like to see it in all videos.
 
 
 
I don't think OP is saying these kinds of deals are bad. He is asking LTT to be clearer about what is going on.

Wow people are getting really butthurt over this.
There is nothing wrong with wanting more transparency and clarity about how LTT obtained the product. They do a great job of this in the "handy tech under 100 dollars" videos but in other videos they are more vague.
 
I agree with OP that they should be clear about it, but I think it's a bit overkill to say you will report them to the FCC for it. The FCC doesn't even apply to Canada.

i think we all need to be flooding @AMD and @AMDRadeon and especially @AMD_roy it's only "fair" that you do that to Roy, as he is the douche doing this. 

Out of curiosity, do you want them to put small text at the bottom of every video where they've been sent free stuff saying "this is an advertisement"?

Yes, I and a many of LMG's followers understand that, but NOT everyone does.
 
This is just my suggestion, but perhaps in future videos, you should consider to make more clear, blunt and obvious disclosures, those that (IMO) would provide answers to these questions:
 
1. HOW you get the product: someone sends it over? You buy it yourself?
 
2. WHY you make a video about it: someone reaches out to you? You just think it is a cool product/thing?
 
3. ADDITIONAL PAYMENT/REWARDS: you receive any other payment for making the video? Or just the video alone is enough in the deal?
 
4. A disclaimer to emphasize that the above information are according to the law of.... so that you can avoid all the people who are annoyed because of such disclosure.
 
 
The important thing is that these information should be treated like the intro/outro of every videos, tthese need to be IN THE FACE OF THE VIEWERS, YES IN THE FACE so that they won't be able to miss it, and that there won't be any unnecessary assumptions. If they chose not to believe a sponsored video, then it's on them, not on LMG. 
 
My university lecturer once said that when we needed to write an explanation in the exam, we MUST treat and see our examiners like an idiot/ignorant fool who required very explicit and clear details, otherwise they WOULD assume that we hadn't properly answer the question.
 
yes it creates more work for the team, but you have already been making disclosures so why not take it a step further.

Here is an example of the way to do something like a quick overclocking review with components from Anandtech, they don't disclose where they ought to but they do declare every component and where it came from: http://anandtech.com/show/9533/intel-i7-6700k-overclocking-4-8-ghz. What even Anandtech does wrong here is that they have an affliate link for each component to Amazon in their specification list and they don't tell you that. But they do declare the components in a nice big obvious list at the bottom of the page/review, this is required as well. This particular aspect isn't to do with sponsored videos, its more about your reviews and the thing you aren't reviewing such as the drives, case, PSU etc.
 
So that concludes my 2 concerns, a. of sponsored videos not properly marked as such and b.native advertising with product placement which aren't attributred to being provided, which is a form of sponsorship.
 
b. obviously concerns a lot more videos than a., but a. is obviously the more serious one in terms of fines from the ASC. I hope this and TotalBiscuit's video helps.
 
On a slight side note as something that come up when raising these two concerns I think having your personal rig and the machines that run your business filled with free kit is pretty dodgy, especially when it gets covered in your videos. It almost certainly isn't illegal but it certainly seems shady. I don't like that at all, it concerns me and it may concern the ASC on something more than just b.. I can't point you to the bit of the law where that is wrong but I think its an ethical breach.

I thought that the ASC was fairly clear on paid advertisements, Linus. Your video failed, in every way, to abide by the law. You should probably start taking such things a little more seriously from now on.

It should also be noted that despite an admission here of some guilt we need to also make complaints with the ASA and FCC so that they are aware of this and can help guide his actions as to what needs fixing both historically and now into the future.

@LinusTech: the TL;DR at the end of the day is that from now on, in every video you should consider to explicitly say something like "This video is sponsored by...", or "this product is sent by...but we didn't receive any money", or "I reached out for this project because I think it's cool"....
and lastly DO NOT make assumptions that the viewers know about this, you HAVE TO make it extremely EXPLICIT and OBVIOUS

Well, the thread turn around discussing LTT and their hardware for editing, so that's why I asked it like that. But yes - it can be asked for any kind of channels.
 
P.S. I follow a channel about photography, which use Nikon cameras for filming, which are given and updated, when new model is released, by Nikon themselves.

Not to take this OT, but I watch a lot of woodworking video's as well and I found it odd a few weeks ago that some of the top youtube woodworkers were all reviewing/giving praise to a certain company an all on the same products with video's dropping within hours of each other, but not disclosing that it was given to them for free or how they got it. 
 
I think this goes beyond just simple hardware reviews and in the tech community in general.

This surprised me a lot. Why would Nvidia/Intel/etc give them all this hardware for running their business? It kind of gets a lot of "placement" in their videos, they have mentioned it quite a bit recently (without disclosing it was all free). So it sure looks like (ethics is not about being ethical its about also the appearance of being ethical) they got free hardware for product placement in videos. Now I go back and watch a load of videos I could probably prove with a reasonable confidence that giving Linus free stuff for computers will result in it being in other reviews as placement for a number of videos afterwards. That is really really bad and it builds distrust with your customer the moment they realise it.

1. People talking out there butts with obvious zero info on the subject they are tackling aside from bias preferences of 1 part vs another. We call these people fanboys.
2. Personal attacks on those who disagree or prove them wrong/ that they dont know what they are talking about
3. People who argue with those who know more about a certain subject, and continue to argue even after being proven wrong
4. De railing a thread JUST to talk smack about someones preference of parts
5. Just general d baggery


I thought we as pc gamers and computer enthusiasts were better than this, but sadly i guess not. No better than console owners fighting over 900p vs 1080p or 25 fps vs 30 tbh. Makes me ashamed to call myself a tech enthusiast and hear people say "oh you mean those guys that troll the internet and act like they know everything and talk down to you for not knowing as much or make fun of you when you try to learn" yup, sadly thats what its become.

This thread will be my retirement from these forums for a while. I have enough to deal with in my personal life and i do not need to come on here to this toxic environment. I hope a mod sees this, because the way some of the people act on here are driving potential new pc enthusiasts away, and forcing long time ones like me to not even bother contributing. In fact i can even predict how this thread will go down, with tons of personal attacks on me, or a part i own from my sig, or "good riddance" Well to each their own, if bullying someone over hunks of plastic and metal makes you feel better as a person, then you do you.

In the process of investigating what I did I found out about the Bestbuy sponsorship from other viewers and then when you posted in here I found out about the Titan X's in the production machines and how that happened. I can say with 100% certainity you have done sponsorsed work I did not know about until well after the video was done, and at this point I don't know what else I have watched that was sponsored where it wasn't clear. You have failed to disclose a lot and there is a lot of native advertising with the placement of products (Kingston SSDs, Corsair RAM etc) now my brain is open to it. I can only answer it for myself, someone who watches some of what you produce.

This is quite possibly the most interesting thread I've read through on LTT in a LONG time.
 
I'm not an expert on the law by any means, but judging from the research others have done, and cross referencing them, I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been talked about more often.
 
Linus makes excellent videos, and I love his channel and have been following him on youtube for a LONG time, but he's gotten very popular to the point where he more often than not is starting to recieve very valuable "samples" in which he is allowed to keep, followed by videos that really do seem like an advertisement. Sometimes he doesn't say, "I am making this video because I received 6 FREE Titan X's from Nvidia..", but I think most of the time he says, "I asked this company for a review sample...". As far as I can tell, these are definitely not the same. What I can tell is, Linus does make an effort in some videos to do this step, but it doesn't really feel specific enough. I agree with the notion that in some way that --> Free samples that you keep = sponsored content, because they gave you something of value to make a video. 
 
I agree with the OP in the means that I would like to get more SPECIFIC disclosure on why you really are making the video. Obviously, at the end of the day it's about money. Irrefutable. However, just like when we complain about politicians taking bribes to speak on a corporation's issues, we need to take the 'internet product showcase/review video industry' a little bit more seriously. We can't have internet video companies (who appear to their audience to be credible) taking essentially what are bribes like politicians do, to position themselves favorably to the respective company's position.
 
That's my take. Linus has obviously made a huge effort in increasing productivity, and with that, I understand when some things get overlooked. But it's gotten to the point (Especially with the 6 Titan X's) where it's starting to look pretty shady.
 
P.S. - I think the people who say, "if you don't like it, then don't watch it" are very backwards. Things aren't always black and white. Giving content providers feedback when they actually listen to you is one of the most important aspects of the relationship that the community should not take for granted. If all of us voice our opinion, and the opinion is shared amongst the majority of LTT users, then I guarantee you, it will be addressed.
