I would like to add some insight. I have a G1 Gaming 980 ti and while the fans are all but silent, I have a big problem with the coil whine. Mine chirps at me whenever I load anything graphically, whether it be a game, a new web page, anything. It's kind of crazy. Certainly not the norm for any card, but it seems to be happening with them. Amazon is pretty liberal with their returns, and the only major issue you ever run into with them is if its in stock when you need it replaced. So I will be returning this card and buying something else, haven't decided which one yet. Thinking about the EVGA Hybrid. Anyone have any experience with them. I'm mostly about silence.

Installed New Cooler, Now System Wont POST, X99-A, 00 Q-Code
Nageri replied to Nageri's topic in Troubleshooting
UPDATE: Tried another two remedies. Its not a RAM issue, went down to one stick in the correct slot, and tried two others, system still wont boot. Also tried flashing the BIOS through BIOS Flashback, but it wouldn't go through. There are two things it can do when you press the button, either flash for 3 seconds and stay on, in which case its working, or flash for 5 seconds then stay on, in which case it didn't work, and it didn't work. Only think I can think of is a bad MOBO or CPU, or both, something happened. I'm not sure what. It wasn't ESD as I was on a grounded ESD mat with an ESD wrist-strap on, and I even grounded myself out every few minutes to the power supply. Any other options someone can think of? Because I called ASUS and they said they couldn't think of anything except to flash the BIOS... -
Installed New Cooler, Now System Wont POST, X99-A, 00 Q-Code
Nageri replied to Nageri's topic in Troubleshooting
Yes, I have everything plugged in correctly. I triple checked. The cooler runs beautifully. And thanks for the following tip. I'm somewhat new to posting, and had no idea it was a thing. -
Just installed my new Corsair H110i GT on my system, and right after, the system wont POST. The red CPU LED is lit up, and I get a 00 Q-Code. System Specs: 5820k Asus X99-A USB 3.1 motherboard Corsair AX860 PSU Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti Details: When I installed the new cooler, I kept the old cooler (CM Hyper 212 EVO) on the CPU and tested the fans and pump before I mounted it onto the CPU, at this point, the computer booted just fine. I was very happy that everything worked, especially after a huge pain in the neck with a cooler master AIO. So I uninstalled the CM 212, routed my cables, and installed the pump to the CPU. Monitor does nothing, says its receiving no signal. So I figured I could have knocked the DVI cable or something, so I replaced it with a new Displayport Cable, still no signal, BUT when I plugged the new cable to it, the monitor recognized that a GPU had been installed, it just said "No Signal." So the connection is fine, but the system isn't outputting signal. I didn't have to unplug any power connectors for the Motherboard to install the cooler, but I went ahead and reseated each power connector just in case. The cooler runs just fine, fans and pump, GPU lights turn on and fans spin, everything seems normal except its not booting. I have looked online, but could not find a definitive answer aside from RMA the CPU or MOBO. I don't understand how something like changing a cooler could destroy a CPU or MOBO. I didn't over tighten the pump block, as the I just finger tightened the thumb screws that came with it. Any help here would be seriously appreciated!

Cooler Master Nepton 240 M - slight rattling noises?!
Nageri replied to Tista93's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
I have had the same experience with not just one Nepton but 2. The first one made the sound, and then I returned it and it was even louder. But this is not normal for these pumps, I have found out they have a serious quality control problem with units being underfilled. What you're hearing is air in the system, and the rattling is bad for the pump. My suggestion would be to return the Nepton 240m and go with another brand of AIO, as CM will not help you in this situation. I have tried to contact them, and the only thing they respond to is RMA requests with automated emails. You will have to send off your cooler, and hope that 1. it makes it to them, and 2. they don't deny ever receiving it, and put you out of $120 and a lot of time. This has apparently happened several times to several people as well. Here is a link to a forum post I made, and part of my experience with their lack of customer service, as well as a gentleman who will not be recieving a refund for the cooler he sent off: http://community.coolermaster.com/index.php/topic/13262-nepton-240m-pump-rattlenoiseticking/ So I would definitely return it to whatever establishment you got it from as soon as possible. Reason being, the air in the system is not good for the pump, and it will make the pump degrade faster than normal, and you probably only have a limited time to return it (probably 30 days) to the place you got it. -
Quite lucky indeed! Actually I've had a friend with a nvidia 800m series mobile GPU that had coil whine. I think I'm getting off lucky with a removable card haha.

Haha a buddy was just telling the other day that I include too many things into the umbrella "silicon lottery." I just use it as a general term to refer to things that are somewhat up to chance when purchasing computer parts as far as performance goes. Anyways, so is it a problem with the power supply, or just simply a pairing issue? And does anyone have any idea if other cards of the same type would likely have this issue, or would there be a better chance of getting a non-whining card?

So I recently built my new system: 5820k ASUS X99-A USB 3.1 Corsair AX860 Intel 750 Series PCIe SSD and a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti My question is: How much coil whine should I just accept as part of the silicon lottery, and is what I'm experiencing too much? Also, what is everyones experience with this card, as I would like to gauge the likelihood that the replacement makes the same noises. DETAILS: So the way I see it we can categorize the amount of coil whine in a few categories: 1. What does it sound like? Well it sounds like a really annoying electronic cricket in my computer. 2. How loud is it? Under full load its still audible overtop of my fans on full blast. Definitely audible at idle as well. It's not really LOUD, but it is very noticeable, and quite the annoyance. 3. When do you hear it? Now heres the weird part, and pretty much the reason I'm making this post to add onto the millions of posts about coil whine. Everywhere I read about coil whine, people talk about when the system is under load, or its pushing MAD FPS. Mine does that, sure, but it also whines while NAVIGATING THE DESKTOP. Heres the deal, if I load a new webpage, I get a little chirp, and then its gone. If i move between tabs of something or between applications or windows, you can hear a little chirp, very quiet, but audible. It's like everything you do that has a direct visual effect, the card chirps at me. EDIT: The best part is when I scroll quickly on a webpage, it chirps for every little scroll section. To be clear, I have determined it is definitely the graphics card and not the PSU. I have also determined it is definitely not the fans, as it makes the noise even when the fans are off. Any insight into this matter would be much appreciated!

UPDATE: I ordered a new Displayport cable (Displayport to miniDisplayport) from a different brand, and the problem still persists. Now I am trying to figure out what is causing it. I have gone back and redone all settings in Nvidia control panel as well as the game, and things still look much worse than through DVI. The cable is up to the DP 1.2 standard as well, and I've had confirmation that it works for exactly what I'm looking to do, but no one else is noticing a problem with the drop in graphics quality. I have a feeling its in a display setting that's getting missed when the monitor switches from DVI to DP, but I can't find whats changing. HALP

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I did notice a difference in how the game looked, but it was small and did not address the overall issues. Still very grainy, like at a lower resolution but not, and screen tearing seen as a waveyness in ground textures when running forward.

Hello all! First post here. I recently got a BenQ XL2720z with the intent to plug it into my ASUS ROG laptop and run at 144hz. After searching everywhere for a Mini Displayport to Displayport cable, I just decided to order one off Amazon. Now before I ordered this, I purchased an adapter from Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI. As both support 144hz, I figured I'd have no problems, but alas, still only capable of 60hz, but Dark Souls 2 looks great even at 60hz. So I order this Mini to normal DP cable and plugged it in today. Switch to 144hz refresh rate, and load up Dark Souls 2. Oh boy does it look awful now. Everything is super grainy, to the point I had to check and see if some texture settings got reduced somehow (they didn't), and there is a god awful amount of screen tearing now. In fact, I wanted to make sure that switching inputs hadn't messed with some settings for some reason, and NOTHING changed between the inputs as far as settings go. So I closed out, changed the refresh rate back to 60hz, and tried again. No effect, everything still sucks. Even went down to 30hz, no change, still crap. I decided on trying to at least fix the screen tearing, and check to see that my adaptive v-sync was enabled, it is. I couldn't understand it. So I switched back to the Dual Link DVI, and everything is hunky dory again, but I'm back at 60hz. I have an intel core i7 processor and a GTX 860M GPU. I used Dark Souls 2 as a reference, as I run that on max settings in 1080p no problem at 60hz through DVI. And I want to reiterate that its not the refresh rate thats lowering performance or something. I am still getting the exact same graphical issues at even as low as 30hz with the DP cable. displayport.org states that there is no such thing as a high output DP cable. They seem to be saying that as long as its DP, then the quality of signal should be the same. So is Displayport just an inferior way to run a monitor, or is displayport.org full of it, and there are good and bad cables that provide differing signal qualities? Thank you for any replies, if I left something out, forgive me, I'm a noobie =D.
