f22luke got a reaction from GDRRiley in Adobe Releases Lightroom for Apple M1 and Windows Arm, Adds Apple ProRAW Support
I'm surprised you guys haven't mentioned process nodes or the special memory configuration used on M1. AMD will be on 5nm soon so they will then have parity with Apple in fact it's probably nice for AMD to now have Apple running pipe cleaners for them. It always feels like nodes take a bit of work getting them tuned for high performance since they always get small mobile parts run through them first. Now that Apple is running performance parts through the node it just means probably less work for TSMC to get AMD running.
As far as memory goes, AMD is limited to DDR4L power draws and can't help that but it does sound like they are aware of it and have some creative solutions of their own coming. They are already more power efficient than their main rival so incremental steps are the correct way to approach these new technologies. AMD did beat the drum on HSA for a long time and they still have that tech and the realizable BAR is also and example of memory performance enhancements coming out from them so I'm sure we will see more from them in the coming architectures.
The future is bright for both AMD x86-64 and ARM, and with chip-lets it would be neat to see a hybrid chip maybe a big little that could have a mixture of cores but maybe the software devs will v-toe that idea. Still lets not argue about stuff like this and just enjoy it when it gets here.

I think the bigger problem is the 15 minute response time to calling 911 for a violent crime.
Never forget, when seconds matter, the police are just minutes away.

f22luke reacted to Big Head Tech in Cloud security experts at Hornetsecurity dispute headlines questioning email standards
Source: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/cloud-security-experts-at-hornetsecurity-dispute-headlines-questioning-email-encryption-standards-300649824.html
An email cloud security company Hornetsecurity is disputing the claims about #EFail.
Basically, he is saying that the news outlets are misleading the public in that these encryption types have been hacked and he would be correct. PGP and SMIME encryption are not the issue. It is the mail clients/plug-ins as well as compromised mailed servers. Any company that is encrypting/decrypting from the client/plugin side or autodecrypt software should probably stop. Plug-ins are hacked and left vulnerable all the time cough "flash".
From further reading on their website, they encrypt from policies at their secure infrastructure rather than from the client/plug-in or even mail server level. This not only allows for a much higher level of protection, but makes them immune to this vulnerability. Frankly, with the amount of high level cloud solutions out there, there is no reason to be utilizing older and outdated ways of encryption.

Please show me the Gsync display that is cheaper than an equivalent Freesync panel? I would like to buy it.

f22luke got a reaction from mech in I just dbranded my Pixel XL
So many people flipped out over the look of the glass back on the Google Pixel phones. I was more bothered by the Verizon exclusive blue color. Then once I got mine I realized I was happy I got the black as it was the only option to have a black front face. Now I am fighting the powers with a blue dbrand skin. Seen below.
It was surprisingly easy to install and feels great. If you are wondering why I installed a fancy skin if I was just going to put it in a case the answer is: Have you ever used one of these cases? Do you know how much grit and grime gets in there? I already had a few scratches on the back glass just from a few weeks of use. This skin protects the phone and fits in under the case just fine. Plus it's a really cool blue color.

f22luke reacted to leadeater in Nvidia working on a 1070 Ti
Because Nvidia and AMD have control over MSRP but also list price right... .
Anyway personally don't see the point, just price drop the 1070 and 1080 job done. Would have thought making a meaningful 1070Ti would be too much effort to not start stepping on 1080's and then pricing would just start getting weird.

I have an idea.
As part of that permit, they cannot file litigation against the government over said permit, and can only enter third party arbitration. You know like all the big ISP's do to their customers.
Oh and "stipulations of this permit are subject to change without notice"

f22luke reacted to System Error Message in Nvidia Claims 3X Improved Performance In Certain Applications With New Driver Update for Titan Xp (Vega Response?)
GPUs dont need low latency except for compute. Despite having much higher bandwidths than CPUs they have much higher latencies too.
Despite AMD falling behind in performance, if AMD had not come out with vega FE nvidia would never have given any benefit to the titan for use in workstations.

f22luke reacted to vanished in How to install an AMD Threadripper CPU in its socket
You've got it all wrong:
But seriously this is interesting. Rather elaborate compared to how it's been for so long, and interesting to see them putting pins on the CPU for ryzen and pins on the board for threadripper.

I've been saying all along (though not as a fanboy) that Navi is where the real interesting stuff will happen. Vega is just a stepping stone. I had hopes for it, but even that's waning.
