As a parent myself I see roblox as inappropriate for minors. Plenty of information to back this up with a quick search, it's not allowed and I have given my children my reasoning why instead of just giving a my way or highway approach.
 
But to the point and again as a dad, your asking the right question but in the wrong way. It's not a matter of getting them to stop playing a game because you won't play it, it is amatter of introducing something you want to share with them that they will be willing to participate with you. Stop thinking about your wants but what they are willing to accept about you and what your sharing.
 
Sorry but it seems to me you're looking at this from a me perspective instead a them perspective.

If you don't want to take the time to post thoughtful threads and discussions surrounding things, then the forum setting may not be what you're looking for. This isn't like Facebook or Twitter where you can just post whatever you want, however you want. The forum setting is meant for meaningful engagement with proper discussion.

That never happens.  Parents will always parent.
Even at my age they are still teaching me how to treat my children and how to be a good dad. Nothing bad on me but I have to learn from someone.

Here's some food for thought. Even Linus doesn't give his kids unlimited free reign on technology. 
 
The only time they have "unlimited" screen time is when it's something healthy. Something that makes them think, or something that makes them move in at least a semi active way. Not just sitting there staring at a screen. 

You're focusing on the wrong part of this. The fact that you say you want to improve things between you and your parents, but your complaint is them being controlling over your computer use shows that you have a lot to learn.
It's not just about the computer use, but you're making it that way.
 
 
Your parents want you to be a kid. 
Go out side and play. Pick up a sport. It doesn't matter. They want you to be active.
It doesn't matter what the "new social norms" are for kids, it's not healthy to spend hours and hours a day sitting staring at a screen. 
I'd be willing to bet that they're position is that they just want you to be a kid. *YOU'RE* the one making it about computers and them being "controlling."

It seems to me you already have your basic curriculum requirements already made out. I would use this as an introduction to any course you teach, this way it will somewhat help. As an example, my own children, I don't show them anything I make them learn it on their own by providing them with the how to look it up on their own, teaches both self-worth and critical thinking skills, there are some exceptions of course. Can't fix stupid but you can teach it out of them. Surprising how quicky they will pick it up if you give them the tools to teach themselves.
 
I can understand a certain level of regression, not withstanding the stupidity due to tiktok and twitter culture.

Things are not the same very true. But I will tell you as a parent myself you see the world from a limited stand point. You will understand this once you become a parent yourself.

Sure, and I've raised kids who need to understand how a family works.  It's one thing for a teen to feel empowered and capable, another to undermine.
 
If screen time is limited, it's for a reason.  Buying a new machine won't change that, and probably why the limit is in place.  Someone seems to think spending hundreds of dollars is a good idea to circumvent, which makes me believe they have a small addiction.
 
No offense, but take those stories with a grain of salt.  Kids exaggerate and outright repeat information that isn't true, cuz they know so much more/better than their parents who are not only smarter but have already done it already 🙂

I made an edit before your reply... I forget sometimes about the mobile phone regression of our youth. Thankfully, I make sure to balance my children into some common [not so anymore] sense.
 

I recal there was a Radeon card that was popular for this reason, but I dont think there has been any recent versions of the card, but I could be wrong.

You might just have to treat it like an "introduction to personal computers" course from around the time Windows 95 launched. Explain everything, no matter how basic it seems to us old folks who have been using PCs since before we were their age.
 
Maybe showing them an old PC running Windows 95 and Office 97 would be beneficial, since it will demonstrate the fundamentals with fewer modern distractions. We don't think about it, but a lot of today's modern interfaces still reference the way things used to be, and they make less sense if you lack that context. ("Why does that square thing mean save?")
 
This is one point where I agree that phone bad. Kids these days know their little distraction rectangles inside out and backwards, but ask them to save a file to the desktop and they look at you like you have three heads.

You only think its dated. I have a I7-4790K with a GTX1080  and run Star Citizen on it with 3 1440 monitors.

I agree with that, but you are in the very tiny minority. I am an elective in jr high and many simply do not care because it doesn't matter. At best I can get them to actually stay seated, not yell across the room, and let me help those that do want to do it.
 
My plan is to build this overall computing lesson before ever getting into editing and then have something to refer them back to instead of answering the basics constantly.

Anytime anyone offers any payment method that does not hit your account while you're standing there, run the fuck away. Instant transfer can work instead of cash, but something taking 2 hours is a heeeeeellll no. $380 real dollars is better than $500 maybe dollars IMO.
