Haven’t built a new rig in 7 years. Most recent upgrade to the old build was a GTX 1660 if that tells ya anything. Didn’t even know m2 ssds existed until recently! Finally picked up interest and had funds to do so recently figured it was time. Just finished it today and updated the BIOS. Waiting on the monitor and a fan controller before I really set it up. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Cool, what SSD did you order?

Here is a complete guide to the installation and optimization of an SSD on Windows 7 from Overclock.net by Sean Webster: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds  It is really good and is what I followed when installing my SSDs.

I personally would go for a clean install, especially since you haven't got any cloning software or spare cables.

This is what I do when I install a SSD (which is explaned in more detail in Sean's guide):
-Change the SATA mode to AHCI in the BIOS before installing Windows
    -Turn off drive indexing
    -Disable Prefetch/Superfetch
    -Disable paging file
    -Make sure defrag is off
    -Turn off hibernation
-Make sure SSD is properly aligned
    -Update SSD firmware

If you have any questions regarding the guide please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

    You can connect them.
The fan controller has wires long enough to reach whatever fan you're using in their respective positions.

So, my Grandparents were in the market for a New PC before I let them buy a prebuilt one (For the same price i might add) I offered to custom build them one. And for the money this thing should be faster and more reliable than a prebuilt PC. They don't do anything to heavily to tax the system, but I still wanted them to have as fast as possible experience. So for ~500$ I put together this.

    CASE: NZXT Source 210
    MOBO: MSI A75MA-E35
    CPU: AMD A8 5600K APU @ 3.6-3.9 Black Edition
RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX Blu @ 1600Mhz OC
    SSD: Kingston SSD Now300 240GB
PSU: Corsair CX400W 80 PLUS Bronze
Cooler Master Fans x3 Blue LED

Still waiting on the Optical drive, SSD 3.5 Bay converter (as you can see right now its fastened to the left of the 3.5 railing ) , and a better heatsink for the APU it was around 53C and climbing in the BIOS and that kind of worried me. Also I'm trying to talk them into letting me put Linux on it instead of Windows.. but I'm not too sure about that one.

    I've attatched some pictures .

Curious as to what you guys would of done instead? Its funny and quite sad that I don't even have an SSD in my build .. and cable management is much better than mine.

Its a NZXT Source 210. Not a bad little case for 40$ shipped... surprisingly enough even with free shipping it arrived in two days like the other parts.

CPUs are actually very durable these days. You can drop them a fair bit and they'll still work.
I think back in the old days, some CPUs were rather fragile and they broke easily when dropped.
And since there's no pins on your CPU, you have less to worry about.

Insert the things in the "1156" position. (1156/1155/1150 coolers are backwards compatible)

    As for push/pull:

As for applying thermal paste, do it the linus way:

Get a Hyper 212 Plus, if the EVO isn't available. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

According to HiTechLegion, you don't really see a huge difference on stock clocks. Only like a ~1-2 degree difference.

Your combined PSU amperage is 48a, so your PSU would officially power a 280X even after overclocking without any issue.
However I should note that the Vapor-X requires two 8-pin connectors.

    amps x v(12) = watts.
    24 x 12 = 288W, the 280X requires 250W.

Sapphire recommends 500W for the 280X, the card consumes about 250W under full load, so you're pretty much all set.

It's actually obnoxiously loud, especially after you overclock it, it's not worth it & you'll end up frustrated.

To realize how loud 52dB is, listen to the reference HIS 7950.
