i built in that case when it came out, i thought it was pretty nice besides the acrylic window. The blue colour is quite nice so i imagine the red would be too. The plastic and paint isnt perfectly matched which bothered me slightly but its not that bad

Bananasplit_00 got a reaction from Agall in REAL reason for why CPUs can't overclock till speed of light?
If you really want to know why, id say you should become and electrical engineer with a focus on semiconductor design for integrated circuits. Some useful topics to look into if you want a real answer are digital design and semiconductor design for integrated circuits. There are way too many for me to explain and its not like i know every limitation either but a few of them are:
Gate charge, the controll terminal of a MOSFET acts as a capacitor that needs to be charged before it can effectively switch state
Gate oxide thickness, thicker gate oxide means the controll terminal can handle more voltage which can speed up switching
Critical Path delay, how fast the slowest thing you are trying to do with your transistors is
C2Q delay, how fast your memory elements can ready the next output(kinda, not really)
Package power dissipation, if its not enough the silicon structures will break

These are VERY simple explenations of a few of the limitations that came to my mind, its not as simple as "make it cold -> more go fast"

Splitting a score like that risks that some people might assume that they could still attempt a repair themselves only to end up shit creek without a paddle when the software won't cooperate. I feel like this is an instance where the lowest score you get on any metric is the score you get overall. No point in flattering Apple for making hardware repairs easy for their own technicians and certified corporate slaves when the end user isn't getting anything out of it.

Bananasplit_00 got a reaction from leclod in Could I earn money building PCs?
I build and sold computers in high-school to pay for my computer hobby.

I didn't really earn much, maybe like €20-€50 on each computer

Stopped doing it when one customer ripped out the cables for the harddrive on their way home and came back and screamed at me and then once it was fixed they complained it was slow. (this was because it was a €300 build with no SSD and they instantly loaded it up with loads of startup shit).

Also people are likely going to be asking you for IT support and everything they break will be your fault, especially if you fixed something for them already.

Basically it was only worth it because I was obsessed with building computers and this was the only way I could ever have hoped to keep fueling my addiction.

Currently doing my masters degree in electrical engineering, would wholeheartedly recommend that you keep studying. It gets a lot more fun as you go along 🙂

Bananasplit_00 reacted to mepah9 in Starfield now runs twice as fast on Linux compared to Windows
Starfield allocates its memory incorrectly where it doesn't align to the CPU page size. If your GPU drivers are not robust against this, your game is going to crash at random times. Starfield abuses a dx12 feature called ExecuteIndirect. One of the things that this wants is some hints from the game so that the graphics driver knows what to expect. Since Starfield sends in bogus hints, the graphics drivers get caught off gaurd trying to process the data and end up making bubbles in the command queue. These bubbles mean the GPU has to stop what it's doing, double check the assumptions it made about the indirect execute and start over again. Starfield creates multiple `ExecuteIndirect` calls back to back instead of batching them meaning the problem above is compounded multiple times.
    Summary
    Windows 64 fps
    Linux 136 fps

This marks the first 'triple a' game that runs twice as fast on linux.

I understand the concern for wanting to put a halt to all production because of concerns for accuracy.  But how much skin are you really losing in the game if you toss a single disclosure statement of (done for entertainment purposes) at the bottom of a video description and just upload something?  The extent of this blackout gives the impression the show is going to be about as dry and boring as a GamersNexus video.  Guess what, they're drab and uninteresting. I watch for Linus antics. I watch for Linus and Alex antics. I watch for Linus and awkward Adam antics. I watch for awkward Dan feedback. I watch for the background commentary on TechLinked. How much of this is your core audience, and are you seriously about to alienate us because of a sharped tongued criticism of benchmarking standards? Yall got any more of them LTT videos?

There has to be a relation and influence between /r/LinusTechTips and LMG. The censorship benefits LMG at this moment. I understand its damage control, but IMO does it hurt more, than what they gain of it. It fall in line with the bad behavior of LMG so far.

LTT has no direct control over the Reddit subforum. They are likely implementing restrictions so that new users do not come in and flood the site with arguments.

The LTT Forums, on the other hand are hosted by LMG, but are run entirely by volunteers and are not officially LMG staff. We allow all criticisms, discussions and comments so long as they are civil and follow the Community Standards.

Bananasplit_00 reacted to FreelancerSystem in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I disagree. As Steve said in the HW news follow-up video, LMG is a corporation. That corporation informally attempted to slander GN and HU via that Labs tour clip. After the "Trust Me Bro" scandal, Steve has publicly stated that they will only report on LMG as a corporation and not as a personal relationship due to a conflict of interest for unbiased media coverage. With all that in mind, he has no obligation as a journalist outlet to contact LMG for comment on the situation before publishing a piece that exposes ethical and systemic issues within the company structure. When you attack an outlet that takes extreme pride in standardized hardware testing, you better have your ducks in a row. Which LMG didn't. So Steve did the appropriate thing and showed there were a lot of things LTT needs to figure out and change before they even think about comparing Labs to the quality of GN testing. Plus, a lot of large companies don't make any meaningful changes until they've been publicly exposed. GN avoided a major bullet by not reaching out to LTT for comment or trying to solve this behind closed doors, given Steve's promises on how he would be reporting on LTT and LMG.
