i agree that those are all bad, but those recent examples are really not as awful as the BilletLabs situation imo

Ended up buying a 2019 Tab A 10.1 that came up for €50, seemed a bit too good of a deal to pass on. If I don't like it I can easily get my money back on it
  4. I have come to the conclusion that this 8" tablet mount can definitely hold a 10" tablet securely. I did this by mounting a transformer to a 155x244 mm piece of MDF, inserting and shaking violently 😂

the other option i am looking at is a Tab A 10.1, which is even wider but half the price. i was also looking at the Tab A7 lite but reading on GSMarena it seems like a shelf-to-ewaste-bin product. The one nice thing about it is that it for sure fits the mount
  6. Hmmmm I wonder if I could cram a Tab S6 Lite into the Ram Mounts 7-8" tablet holder 🤔

Found one for €150 which seems like a good deal, but it is 155mm wide so I am not sure if it would grip well.

Earlier I said I wanted 155mm or smaller but after more concideration I am not sure how well the mount would deal with it.

Perhaps I should just cut or 3d print something 155mm wide and mount 500g of weight on it, shove it in the mount and shake 😂

currently looking like an ipad mini 4 or samsung tab A 10.1 (2019) I have more faith that the Ipad wont be a laggy mess but i really hate having to deal with lightning instead of USB C

I can't find a single 5 for sale Quite a few 4 and one 6 for sale though. Found a Samsung A9+ for €100 which seems like a really good deal but it is too wide The tablet mount for it would be another €110
  10. Anyone have any suggestions for what used tablets to look for? I only have one restriction which is a max width of 155mm because that's as wide as my motorbike mount can go 😄

Budget is ~€100, it's pretty much only going to be used as a GPS with some video streaming as a secondary task.

I have a Tab 3 7" piece of ewaste right now but it is basically unusable because of it's age

Apple stopped selling the mini 4 five years ago so it is close to end of life. The Ipad mini 5 was up for sale till end 2021.

You could always print it. CNC machining in China is also cheaper than that.

Hilariously I just read in the local paper about that lane reduction I mentioned. Someone under the moniker of "dissatisfied taxpayer" wrote about how this was not done democracy and how they did not listen to the will of the people who paid for it.... Yeah sure man, not like this was actually voted on or anything

Man, I have been what they call “orange pilled”…

They reduced the amount of lanes from two to one in the city center of where I used to live to make better bike paths and generally cut down on traffic(mostly trucks and semis) and it has been great. The amount of angry screaming people did whilst it was getting concidered though... It is very hard to explain induced demand and the benefits of not having the entire damn city center be crammed full of semi trucks apparently
  17. Only thing I can think off is using some finishing compound for car paint. Might work, it's ment to remove what's left after cutting which is what you did with the paper towel kinda

As an embedded electronics masters student, 60mA standby current is an offensive amount I'd be a bit worried about cable lengths and loops because if you end up with a significant inductive component you will get voltage overshoot when switching to battery. Probably nothing to obsess over though, would just be a shame if at the first power outage your severs explode

Neat, then it's mostly my phobia for needles that's getting in the way of me getting one That sounds awful, I can already hear most powersupplies coil whine along with tinnitus Got pretty close to doing the small magnet in my finger some years back but the primary source of the magnets was ebay and I wasn't old enough to drink so I'd have absolutely nothing decent for painkillers Might look into it again, in a not potato and scalpel in a shed way this time
