  1. Hey guys, Its time to buy a new thin & light laptop but I'm kind of stuck after a lot of research, perhaps you guys have an idea. My requirements are: 1. Usage - Work- 30-40 Tabs across multiple desktops with out lag (I'm very over laggy UI and delays when switching desktops) This really includes future proofing for 3-4 years, I'd rather it be a bit overkill now than face a laggy UI in 2 years from now 2. Battery life - 8-10hrs is a must / I need to be away from a charger quite frequently 3. Fan noise & heat - Heat isn't as much as a problem as fan noise is / I sometimes use it at night in bed and can't have it spinning up the fans while working on a couple of tabs 4. Price - Budget is max €1500 - €1600 - Europe 5. Build - I use my laptop daily for work and I'd like to enjoy using it - Metal would be preferred 6. Screen - 13-15inch with heavy preference towards 13 and 14inch - As bright as it can get / I work outside from time to time and my current 500nits laptop isn't enough but I realise the limitations here I was patiently waiting for the new line-up from Dell but I can't justify the price point I've been primarily looking at the Intel Ultra line up as its looking quite promising with low power draw and good performance and while I do not intend on gaming (besides some OG AOE2), the ARC Graphics are nice to have What I've found so far: 1. Lenovo - ThinkPads & IdeaPads - I'll be honest, the ThinkPads are excluded because I hate the design, I use one at work and its just not for me - As for the IdeaPads, I have some concerns about the build quality 2. ASUS - Zenbook UX3405MA €1399 - By far the best value I've found but the plastic build doesn't convince me 3. HP - Spectre X360 - Currently "discounted to" €1549 for the 155h model - Overall a solid choice it seems but also drastically more expensive than the Asus given the processor 4. Dell - New XPS 13 with a 155h €1649 - I'm not gonna lie, the design is 90% of why I want this laptop At this price range MacBooks would be a real option but it has to be Windows or Linux. I realise a lot of these thin and light laptops are thermal throttled or have other major issues which exclude them so would be very grateful for some insight. Thanks guys!
  2. Belgium but Germany is close enough, almost everything available there ships here. Thats perfect, thank you very much for the quick help, really appreciate it! Will go with the Patriot Viper then!
  3. Thanks for the quick tip, unfortunately I wasn't able to find it in Europe, should have mentioned that in my post, my bad!
  4. Hey guys, facing a bit of a dilemma. During the pandemic I picked up a mostly bare bones pre-built since it was the only option to get a RTX3080 at a normal price. The pre-built came with non-descript 2x8GB 3000 MHz RAM. I'm noticing I'm a bit limited by those 16GB of RAM at this point so would like to upgrade to 32GB. The question is, with a MSI B550M, 5600X and a 3080, would you recommend I add another 2x8GB 3000MHz RAM or just replace the non-descript RAM with 2x16GB 3200MHz / 3400MHz. Should the answer be to replace it, if someone could shed some light on the different timings and what to look for in RAM or a general good value 32GB kit, I would massively appreciate it! I.e. Is C14/16 3200MHz better than C18 3400MHz? Located in Europe! Thank you!
  5. @VEXICUS@boggy77@SavageNeo So a bit of a strange question. A buddy of mine just let me know that the store he bought his pre-built rig has the 5600x as well as the 3070 and 3080 in Stock. Unfortunately they do not sell them individually and only sell full pre-built systems. Checking their pricing, it looks really good though. What would you think of one of these builds? Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500 PSU: Corsair RM Series Modular RM850 - 850W Motherboard: MSI B550-A Pro OR MSI B550M Pro-VDH WIFI OR ASUS Prime B550M-A WI-FI CPU: Ryzen 5600x RAM: 3000 MHz, 16GB from either Crucial, GSkill, Adata or Teamgroup (would possibly replace this depending on what they end up shipping) Storage: None (I'll be buying the ADATA 1TB which was suggested here) GPU: 3070FE OR 3080FE Total: €1347 (3070) OR €1570 (3080) What do you guys think? Overall I would prefer the 3070 over the 6800 due to DLSS but considering that the 3080 build would cost almost the same as my current 6800 build, I would likely choose that assuming the build is decent? Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the recommendation and for pointing out the flaw in that board. Is there any actual difference between these 3 boards or is just largely down to aesthetics? I only just realised you can multi quote so my bad. @SavageNeo - I'll definitely be picking up that SSD and most likely that case too. Thanks for that! Isn't the B550-A a 450 with a fancy name though? While researching I stumbled upon a gamernexus post where he says:
  7. Is there a reason for the slightly more expensive RAM? On the surface it looks somewhat identical but I assume there is a reason its a bit more expensive? Also, is the 650w PSU good enough? I wasn't really sure how much I needed so went with the "middle ground"
  8. This seems quite a bit slower than the Evo 970 Plus and the ADAPTA XPG?
  9. Budget (including currency): Approx. €1000, can go a bit over if it makes a big difference. (6800 not included so real budget is 1600 I suppose) Country: Europe Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA games, MS Flight Sim etc. Other details, existing hardware: RX6800, 100Hz 1440p ultra wide, mouse & keyboard Hey guys, I managed to get my self an RX6800 on launch yesterday and now I'm looking for some help with the rest of the build. Its my first build so I'm really unsure about compatibility and how to get the most out of the system. Here is what I have so far: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor (€349.00) Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard (€189.89 @ Alternate Belgium) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (€63.90) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (€159.00) Video Card: ASRock Radeon RX 6800 16 GB Video Card (Purchased For €0.00) Case: Deepcool Gamer Storm MACUBE 550 ATX Mid Tower Case (€94.00) Power Supply: EVGA G5 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€111.00) Total: €966.79 N.B. The Motherboard having decent WiFi is unfortunately necessary in my apartment as I rely on Powerline adapters which cap at 80Mbs real download while my WiFi hits around 450Mbs. My main concern is the availability of the 5600x. I haven't been able to find it anywhere since launch. As this machine is purely for gaming, I would quite like to take advantage of the "Rage Mode" and SAM so I would likely have to wait until I can get a Zen3, right? For most of these parts I'll be waiting until Black Friday to buy them. Especially things like the 970 Evo Plus went down by $30 on Prime Day and I'll see if I can save a few bucks on other parts too. Would love to hear your suggestions on how to improve the build or what might not work etc. Thank you!
  10. Thanks for the suggestions guys, gives me a great base. A question regarding the GPU. The 5700XT goes for around 380ish as far as I can tell. The 2070 for 440ish but it seems as if there is almost a negligible performance difference? Does DLSS / Ray Tracing factor into the discussion here at all or is AMD just undercutting nvidia? Some of you mentioned to wait for big navi, ampere and zen3. Googling points towards September 2020 release on all of those. Does that align with expectations or is that largely unsubstantiated? I wouldn't mind waiting until September but waiting until next year wouldn't make too much sense. Thanks guys!
  11. Budget (including currency): EUR 750 / 1000 - Preferably on the lower end as I don't know how much I'll be using it yet but if that means that I wont be able to run AAA titles at 60fps 1440 in 1/2 years then I'd rather spend a bit more now. Country: Belgium / Europe Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA Gaming Other details No existing parts 2. Aim AAA Gaming - I do most of my gaming on Xbox but there are a few titles on PC I would like to play. Generally speaking I'm wondering if its a good time to buy a PC, I'm not in a rush and I have no idea how Covid affected PC pricing. Also I recently read that nVidia is getting ready to launch their new cards. Does it make sense to wait for them to release to then either go straight for the new cards or to maybe but the "old" ones at a discounted price? Does anyone have a rough estimate when they might release or is this a bit unrealistic? 3. Monitors Anything curved around 27" or ultrawide. I don't need any crazy refresh rates or anything hyper amazing. Any "casual" recommendations or good value recommendations are welcome. 1440p would be nice on bigger screens. Monitor is not included in the budget. The budget is just for the PC. The budget for the monitor is whatever a "casual" 27" curved screen costs. 4. Peripherals No need. I appreciate any input even though it is pretty vague. I guess I'm looking for a reference machine with a bit of information thrown in on whether it makes sense to buy at the moment or not. Thanks guys!
  12. I gave OpenElec a try, not bad but not ideal. You can't seem to install Netflix on it since you require a specific python library, which in turn you can not download because there is no Terminal in Openelec. Or so I understand. Also, while Kodi is fantastic, the actual presentation and interaction with Netflix is still miles behind the website or App which is a bit unfortunate.
  13. Hi guys, we have a pretty old LG running WebOS 1.0 which is just poor overall (the OS). I also still have an old Dell XPS 7275 lying around, currently still running Windows 10. Its a capable machine. I was thinking about hooking it up to my TV and using it as a replacement for the integrated OS of the TV. The question is, are there any good operating systems that are just used for TV? For example, Android TV would be great but no matter what I try, I can not get it to run on my Dell. Are there any Linux alternatives or anything of the kind? Ideally I would like to control it with my Logitech Harmony remote as well and would just overall like to avoid having to use a mouse and keyboard. The TV is purely used for watching Netflix and accessing my server with movies etc. on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys, I need some help choosing between a couple of ultrabooks. I have narrowed it down to basically 2 with a couple of different configurations. Could someone tell me what makes the most sense overall? 1. Huawei Matebook X Pro - 13.9" - 3k Screen - i5 8250u - 8GB RAM - Intel 620 Price: £999 2. Huawei Matebook 13 - 13" - 3k screen - i7 8565u - 8GB RAM - Intel 620 Price: £1,099 3. Dell XPS 15 9560 (Refurbished) - 15" - FHD Screen - i7 7700HQ - 16GB RAM - GTX 1050 Price: £850 4. Dell XPS 9570 (Refurbished) - 15" - FHD Screen - i7 8705G - 16GB RAM - GTX 1050 Ti Price: £1165 Overall the Dell's are clearly more powerful, however, I really don't play much on PC anymore and need my laptop mostly for work and travel. I haven't been able to find exact battery stats for the two Dells with those configs unfortunately so thats a bit worrying. Additionally, I wonder if a low powered GPU like the 1050 Ti makes any sense at all. I mean if it can barely run games anyway, then might as well go with something less power hungry and make use of the extra battery, right? The Huawei's have the clear advantage in design and battery life for me but I wonder if the lower performance makes up for that? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks guys!
  15. Hey guys, I need to pick up a new laptop since my old one just died. I really need something thin and light for work and portability. I've been thinking about a new Dell XPS which is great for work but useless to game on. I do most of my gaming on my Xbox anyway so I'm not too worried about it but if I can get the best of both worlds, that would be great obviously. Now I was wondering if there is anything comparable to the XPS but something you could also game on that still makes sense? I'm not sure a 1050ti would be worth the extra money for example? The Razer Stealth 15 is obviously ideal with a 1060 or something but the price is just ridiculous. Is there anything as small, portable and with great battery life for about 400€ less? Its also worth mentioning, I need my laptop for work so it really shoudn't look too much like a gaming laptop. I'm also not really in the loop about the new nVidia cards, I'll be needing a new laptop fairly soon but is there anything on the immediate horizon that I should wait for? Thanks guys!
  16. No idea where you found that site but that's awesome. Thank you!
  17. 3.5 hours of battery live sounds painful to be honest.
  18. Hey guys, The cable of my Sony earphones just broke after 5 years. Of course right as I'm sitting at the airport waiting to board....but that's besides the point. I need to order some new earphones and I'm not sure what to go with. I've been tempted by a pair of Bluetooth earphones but since my budget is somewhat below 50$, I don't really know if that's worthwhile. Looking at wired earphones I'd be tempted to buy these Sony ones again since they have been great over the years and are the only ones that manage really good bass without ruining highs. Would love to have some recommendations for both, wired and wireless earphones under 50$. Maybe there is something better than my current Sony's. Earphones only please, I listen to music on the go and headphones are too bulky for me. Thanks guys!
  19. Hm, I thought as much. That's unfortunate. I've been looking into the RPI and the Zero W looks decent for 10$, add a 5$ mini HDMI - HDMI cable onto that and it should connect easily. Since I have never worked with an RPI before, is there any thing else I would need to connect the RPI to my TV besides a USB cable to power it and the mini hdmi cable? Also, is there a good way of just powering it on along with the TV and displaying the weather, without any input?
  20. Hey guys, I've been fiddling around with my Hisense Smart TV for the past couple of hours, trying to find a way for the TV to turn on every morning and display the weather. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to do so. While the timer function does allow the TV to be turned on automatically every morning at a set time, it just displays "No input devices found" instead of the main menu which has the weather on it. I've thought about setting up an IFTTT on my phone to cast the weather but unfortunately I'm on a University network which makes casting wirelesly impossible. Other than that, I have been considering something like the raspberry pi but 15 bucks to display the weather just seem like a waste. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks!
  21. Wouldn't this simply enable/disable the adapters though? The WiFi adapter is always enabled and the Tap 9 is only enabled when the VPN is connected. The WiFi adapter shouldn't ever be disabled and the Tap 9 should only be enabled when the VPN is active. Its more about which adapter shares its connection. I.e. By default the WiFi adapter is being shared, when the VPN is connected, the Tap 9 adapter needs to be shared.
  22. Hey guys, would anyone be able to write a short script to automatically change which Network Adapter is being shared? I currently have to connect my Xbox through my laptop and a VPN since my Uni network is ridiculously restrictive. For games I mostly need the VPN enabled and then share the Tap 9 adapter through my Ethernet port. However, when I want to use Netflix or other streaming services on my Xbox, I have to disable the VPN and share the standard WiFi connection. Is there anyway to automate this process? I.e. When the VPN is connected, it automatically shares the Tap 9 Adapter, when the VPN is disconnected it goes back to sharing the WiFi Adapter. Would be amazing if anyone had any idea on how to do this. I have 0 coding knowledge of any kind of unfortunately can't help my self here. Thanks guys!
  23. Hey guys, so I have an odd question. I'm looking for wireless earphones with a mic for my Xbox One X. I have a set of wired earphones I can use on my Xbox but those don't have a mic. I could just buy the same earphones with the inline mic on them but I also need wireless earphones to use at the gym. So, is there anyway, to connect wireless earphones with a mic to the XBONE X? The alternative is to connect a mic to my existing wired earphones and then just buying wireless earphones for the gym but I haven't been able to find a way to connect wired earphones to a mic and then to my xbox controller. I really don't like Headphones/Headsets so that's not a solution unfortunately. Does anyone have a solution to all of this? Thanks guys! TL;DR -Have wired earphones without mic -Need earphones with mic for my Xbox -Also need wireless earphones for the gym. -Don't want to buy 2 new sets of earphones.
  24. Hey guys, I want to ugrade my Lenovo Y510p's WiFi since its still only 2.4Ghz and sucks. I read a bit about it online, saw that after a quick bios flash you should be able to install a Intel 7260 with relative ease. Unfortunately after looking at dozens of vendors, I finally purchased the 7260 on amazon but didn't realise its a NGW card and as far as I can tell the Y510p has a HWM slot. Before I take apart my laptop, does anyone know if I can still use my NGW card or do I have to send it back? Thanks guys!
  25. Thanks for the suggestion! CPC seem to only have 1 single 4 Ohm Tweeter and I read that you can not combine 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm Drivers? AliExpress doesn't seem to have any in the right dimension and a lot of the time doesn't even include the dimensions which makes it really painful to look through. Finally eBay is eBay, endless I haven't found anything yet but I'll keep looking. Wasn't aware that a good pair of these speakers sets you back 120£.... Thanks for the help nonetheless!
