  1. Hey All, I am planning on building a Sever with the aim of running it as a virtual server so that I can have a VPN Server, Windows 10, NAS Server and a Media Server running from it and needed some help on what Hardware to get. I need it to be small, Relatively cheap so no more than £600 and be able to run those different tasks. What do you guys think would be best? Thanks for your help.
  2. Hey all, So I have a house in the UK and another house out in France/Switzerland (on the boarder) and really like watching Netflix and BBC Iplayer for example but when I'm out in my second house I can't use these services. I know that you can pay for a VPN so you can do this but I have a old laptop lying around my home and was wondering whether or not I could convert this into a VPN Server so I can watch BBC IPlayer and Netflix at my other house. So can I do this and how do I do this? Thanks.
  3. They all are outdoor rated, so I should just go with the cheapest?
  4. Ok guys, I've found some cables which one is the best? There is a mixture of 6 and 5e which one is best from each type? Cat 6 - Cat6 FTP Shielded PVC Solid Cable, http://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/cat6-bulk-cable/1771-cat6-utp-lsoh-solid-cable-reelcat6-ftp-shielded-pvc-solid-cable.html - Armoured Cat6 UPT Solid Cable, http://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/cat5e-bulk-cable/1464-armoured-external-cat6-utp-solid-cable-price-per-metre.html - CAT6 Armoured UTP External/Outdoor PE Ethernet Cable, http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/products/21234-broadbandbuyer-c6swape/ - CAT6 Solid U/UTP External Grade Outdoor Ethernet Cable , http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/products/21024-broadbandbuyer-bb-external-cat6/ - Category 6 Shielded Grey FTP PVC Cable, http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/products/2079/category_6_shielded_grey_ftp_pvc_cable/ - Outdoor Cat6 UTP External Grade Network/Ethernet Cable, http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/products/2200/outdoor_cat6_utp_external_grade_networkethernet_cable/ Cat 5 - CAT5e Solid U/UTP External Grade Outdoor Ethernet Cable, http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/products/17790-broadbandbuyer-bb-external-cat5e/ - Outdoor Cat5e UTP Network/Ethernet Cable, http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/products/1949/outdoor_cat5e_utp_networkethernet_cable/ Thanks, @beavo451, @Trikein and @trufret
  5. I would run the cable behind the pipe not in it just to clarify @beavo451
  6. I have a drain pipe that I can run the cable up, my house is very tall so about halfway up there is a brick decoration that struts out that I can run it under but its not exactly going to prevent water from running over it when it rains would this be better than running it under the gravel? @beavo451
  7. Ok, @Trikein, @beavo451 and @trufret Lets back up a bit, I currently revive around 70-100mb/s at my house and have a PS4 in the lounge and my computer in my bedroom, I want to wire these into my router. Have I overshot with the cable category if so what's the one I need? Lets forget about the price just tell me what I need and where to get it, I have re-measured and need around 75m but I doubt this will help as it all comes in reels of 100m or 305m from my experience. I will only be connecting those 2 devices with the 2 different runs, so I want a cable that can go 50m without loosing any bandwidth. Also the ability the have 1gb/s would be nice but not necessary. So do I need a cat5e instead or what, thanks.
  8. What and the ethernet cable just gets threaded through that condiut?
  9. My plan is to run it through my walles and seal it with silicon
  10. Ok, can you give me a example of what I need?
  11. Again, anyone know the best place to search for the cables?
  12. Amazon is a option, but I would like a cable which doesn't have ends built on.
