  1. Thanks for your suggestion! Unfortunately, I already tried this. I even took out the CPU itself and when reseating the cooler i was very careful to tighten the 4 screws holding the cooler equally to get as good a connection as possible
  2. Gosh, that is so frustrating !!! Thanks for the replies
  3. Yes thats what the manual suggests. But it wont post. Only if i put a stick in B1 and/or B2
  4. Im thinking the same. Im just not quite sure what to do. PC wont boot when inserting ram in slot 1&2 (A1&A2) but will in 3&4 (B1&B2). Tested each stick and they both work fine individually. And it works when plugging in both in B1 and B2 at the same time but then its obviously only single channel. And this is the replacement mobo i got after returning the first one i got last week
  5. Hi Just (re)-installed my i7-8700k. I received my new cpu aswell as my asrock z370 extreme4 mobo last week but ended up having to rma the mobo because the pc wouldnt turn off when i shut down the pc. Now I have received a new mobo and i no longer have the problem. I have now done a little benchmarking. I've used Passmark primarily and some cinebench but I believe my scores are very low for some reason - at least they are lower than what they were last week with the other mobo! The reason im writing this is because last week i got a 14.816 score with stock settings on Passmark as opposed to the 11.993 that I get now, also stock ! Ive taken some screenshots, hope you can see it. The one thing that is differnt now is that my PC wont boot with my 2x8GB of 3000mhz ram installed in dual channel - so right now they are running in single channel - is this why? edit: did a cinebench at 4,8ghz and scored 1324. Last week i got a score of 1431 with the exact same settings. With this overclock I got a Passmark score of 12.598 and last week i got 17.072 with these settings!
  6. Both of the sticks work individually. PC wont post if i put either one of the sticks in A1 and A2, but it will, if i put in B1 and/or B2
  7. Hi guys I just upgraded to an i7-8700k which I've put on an Asrock Z370 Extreme4 with 16GB DDR4 rams. The problem I now have is that the PC will not post if i put the ram sticks into the suggested slots (A2 and B2) which is slot 2 and 4 - this will give no display on my monitor. If i put either sticks into slot 1 or 2 (A1 + A2) the pc won't boot either. However, if i put the ram sticks into slot 3 and 4 (B1 + B2) then it will post - but then they will run in single channel which is not optimal - right? The ram I've installed are G. Skill 16 Kit (2x8GB) DDR4, 3000MHz, PC/Server, Registered No, ECC No (F4-3000C16D-16GISB - shouldn't these work? This is the second mobo I've received as i had to rma the last one i got since the pc components would stay on when i shut it down - im just thinking i would be extremely unlucky if i get 2 faulty mobos in a row ..?
  8. did some more testing. the computer only posts if i put either of the ram sticks into dimm slot 2. it will not post if i put a stick into 1, 3, 4 and neither will it post if i put both sticks in to any combination of dimmslots. very strange............. ?
  9. thanks for your reply! i have tried dimm slot 2 and 4 which are the ones i should be using i believe with only one ram stick and i only have an issue when plugging the ram stick into the dimm slot 4 - but why would it just all of a sudden stop working all ive done with the board is take it out, replace with the new, and then swap back again due to the rma ? but can i use dimm slot 1 and 3? i tried putting in the ram slots there but that felt kind of weird like they didnt go in as well as in 2 and 4. and i am using the proper ddr3 sticks
  10. its just weird, it worked before i upgraded to the new cpu and mobo. and now that i switch back it just doesnt work.
  11. hello. when turning my pc it turns off again after a few seconds, before its even booting. ive found out it only happens when i insert my second ram stick! i have 2x 4gb ddr3 ram slots hyper x. how can i fix this? this is on a msi z97 krait edition mobo with a i5-4690k and this system has been running great for years now. additional info - a few days ago i received a new mobo and cpu, a i7-8700k & asrock z370 extreme4 - however i had to do an RMA on the mobo which is why I have re-installed my old hardware while i get a new replacement mobo. the ram slots are installed properly according to the manual in slots 2 and 4 and it doesnt matter which one ram stick i am using. it happens no matter which one of the two sticks i use. ive tried clear cmos and enabling xmp with only one ram slot in to boot the pc , shutting it down, inserting second ram - but the problem persists
  12. done - will also try to call the place where i bought the mobo tomorrow and hear what they think but i also doubt they will have an answer since it seems to be very difficult to solve. cant find a solution online, at all
  13. ive tried taking out everything except one dvi cable for one of my monitors, and then shutting down the pc - it didnt help
  14. I apologize for not responding to your first comment - appreciate your suggestion, even more that you bothered trying again! unfortunately it didnt work, fans are still going nuts and mobo+gpu is still lit what ive done: - ive tried doing a clean windows install to rule out driver issues - clearing cmos (multiple times) - disabling fast boot setting - trying to enable "deep sleep in s5" i believe it was called - saw someone post that could be why - taking out all peripherals none of this has helped
