I'm expressing the dangers because they are dangers. I will never advise someone to do something 1. I wouldn't do myself for obvious reasons 2. If he knew about the dangers of overclocking on a laptop and the extremely negligible performance gains that probably wouldn't stay due to throttling then he would be asking. 3. As you said yourself never tell someone not to do something. Thanks for understanding.

I was hoping to be able to sell them pre-configured for each customer. The first one would be sent setup as a server, and any others after that would be sold as clients, pre-configured to just plug and play. I worked out how to do it, but it never happened :(.

One tip if no one said it: Try building ultra budget (console like budget) gaming PC's for people who want to get into PC Gaming but doesn't want to spend time building or learning how to build and how does it work.

I could easily count 10 friends in my classroom that want a gaming PC but doesn't know how. People are incredibly lazy, and they would rather spend a little bit more to get everything done instead of researching and building it by themselves.

You could try with that market. Or like everyone said, small simple cheap computers for those neighbours and also support to fix everything.
As I can imagine you will need to know lots of activators/toolkits to activate Windows/Microsoft Products, usually people that need support doesn't know how to fix things and they aren't willing to spend money in a geniune OS, it's sad but it's true. If you need some help hit me a PM, I know a few that are quite good, I use them when I do PC support.

Also get ready to learn some troubleshooting, and to disinfect PC's. I think that if you put all of that together, with a small initial investment you have very high chances of success.

Good luck hope you show us your new things with your profits soon.

Yeah anyone who keeps saying that in middle school you can't make money any other way than to mow lawns just wasn't creative them selfs.

Anyone who says you can't sell machines in middle school just never did it them selfs, and weren't creative enough to do it.

Theres been 3 users, including my self, who've just encouraged this idea because we've successfully done so.

I would buy $50 towers, add larger HDD's, add a graphics card, a wifi card and a graphics card and install a ton of programs. My investment was up to $200 and my PROFIT was up to $200.

I was selling 1-6 machines monthly for very little "work" and a lot more fun since I loved doing that. Mowing lawns is tough work and once you've mowed all the lawns you have to wait about 2 weeks or a month to stay mowing again.

With selling machines, you ARE also offering tech support for the future. Once you get a call for help, you charge them hourly or per case to fix their issues. NEVER offer free support.

Anyways: if you're passionate enough, make a website, ask ur parents if people can come to the house/garage or find a small tech shop who will let you use their business so you can meet with people, build rappor, seem professional with a website and even a store front or real address for business.

Never give up on your idea. Make flyers. Spread them everywhere. Leave business cards at bus stops and coffee shops/any billboard anywhere. Make a newspaper ad. Find your local public broadcast channels studio and find out how much it would cost to shoot and air commercials.

It doesn't matter how young or old you are, what grade you are in or what amount of education you've completed:

If you are good at what you do, passionate about what you do and love doing what you do; as long as you make effort to reach out, you will reach all your goals.

I literally have done of all this my self when I was in highschool 10 years ago. I had a small contractor/free lance business called StreetTech.info and I've done all the above. I made a pretty good amount of money doing so and to this day I still have people calling me for remote support and PayPal deposits.

@happy57110: you do you babe, don't let the trolls tell you to mow lawns!

I had an idea when I was 15/16. I built a few (lowish powered) machines, fitted one with TV tuners, and used Media Portal to create a network of machines that all shared media. Everything was in one library, and you could even pause playback in one room, and resume in another. I used it at home for quite a while, ripped DVD's and CD's to it, put downloaded content on it and recorded TV shows with customisable recording options. I even had support for the on-demand and catchup services when they started appearing.

No one believed me that people would want this kind of system (this was before HD was really a thing in the UK), but I was always looking at what was going on in the US and saw what was available there, and knew it would end up here eventually. I didn't have the money to spend on buying more capable hardware for developing it further, obviously at that age there's no way to get funding for something like that, and the idea kind of died off .

Now, pretty much every device sold uses media sharing and connectivity as big selling points, you can buy small HDMI dongles with the sole purpose of streaming media from other devices in the home. Streaming media is becoming the preferred way to watch content, and I was doing this in 2003/2004 on low-end Durons and Semprons with Geforce 4's throwing near HD video at a CRT TV.

If you have and idea and can get some support to help you, go for it.

Nothing against what you saying, but you lack of grammar is really desturbing me. For example:
    - them selfs should be themselves (selfs isnt a word)
    - theres needs an apostrophe (There's)
    - ur should be your (Its only two extra keys, i'm sure it isnt that hard)

Sorry to be a grammar nazi but its really distracting me.

Take out your dashboard and instruments and get digital ones. Get that projector thing that makes holograms on your windshield. Add GeoHots Atonomus Driving Kit to your car. Swap your dash for a computer system and stereo. Add some subs into your car not taking up space in a box. Get some laptops and mount them upside down or into your head rest for full computer usage including video for the passengers. Add LED lighting for all the accents like how Ford and Chevy do it. Add an OBD reader and modifier so you can tweak your performance on the fly.

Hundreds of millions of people are doing this daily. Stop disencouraging other members and no I'm not "promoting him to commit crimes" or whatever other triggered BS you wanna come up with SJW's.

The FLAW with eBay is they don't ask for social security number or ID number for human verification. This means that any one of any age can just fill out a profile and select an age that is 18 or older and then just link a bank account.

If he needs a bank, he can open one at 16 without a parent in most US states, otherwise ask a friend, parents or other family.

Go away, you're not helping happy57110, you're just scaring him away. You jealous that he has some good ideas and might be richer than you one day or something?

He's his own man. He can make his own decisions. If he wants to try and bypass eBays ToS, and he will absolutely get away with it, then that's his decision to make.

You aren't a warranty service representative and he's not telling you he wants to overclock his CPU. Stop telling him you can't support him. Just don't reply.

I hate when passionate young techy people are treated like the OP is being treated. Just answer his questions. Treat everyone on the internet like an adult. You aren't his parents, you don't need to be warning him.

Protip @happy57110: never tell anyone your age on the Internet if it's not 18 or older. You see how people can react. If you never mentioned your age or that you're in middle school and just said you're in school, I'm sure everyone would be giving you the same help I am instead of trying to parent you.

Who the hell tells their real age online? I had an eBay account when I was in 6th grade. Used to buy and sell Gundam figurines.

Stop disencouraging the OP, warning that his actions might get his parents in trouble. Duh, give him some credit. I'm sure he understands that.

And when you sell a machine and they call saying they have viruses: that's not the OP's fault. I'm sure he can deterime his self if his clients are calling about an issue that the OP possibly caused or if it was definitely the end-user.

Again happy57110: don't let anyone disencourage you. Talk with your parents and even ask if they can co-sign a bank for you so you can use the online accounts like PayPal to link to an eBay or other selling site like Amazon.

Happy57110: if you need any sort of help related to any tech and you fear these people will spend too much time warning you instead of providing more ideas: hit me up over PM and I'll coach you and we can bounce ideas around.
