  1. A quick update. My problem with audio noise is still apparent. I was suspecting audio modules to pick up from graphics card coil whine, but after swapping my card to a healthy GTI 780 Ti, the problem is still there. This way I can rule out graphics card causing this. Just to clarify: The audio issue is present regardless of which audio output I use. Using the onboard audio causes noise/whine both through the front panel and the rear I/O, and using an external Native Instrument USB sound card does not fix it. This is a real mystery to me. Launching/playing games and having stuff happen on screen is increasing the audio noise (which led me to believe that it was a graphics card problem, which it isn't), but it is not dependent on audio volume. This means that I can crank up the volume to 'drown' the noise (noise floor), but it's always there... Any ideas?
  2. Swapping to other USB ports doesn't seem to help, not even the front ports on the case. Drawing power directly from the wall and passing data to the computer seems like a cool idea, although that should in fact be the PSU's job I was thinking maybe the USB ports don't get enough power, and thus being a motherboard issue.
  3. Maybe you installed the cooler correctly, 60°C is nothing on Intel (?) processors - don't know about AMD. I had a similar problem with computer shutting down under load, and it turned out to be a PSU issue. You might want to check your Event Viewer, write down the error codes and google them. If it shuts down when under load, it could be your power supply not being able to keep up and your motherboard telling it "hey you need to shut down now". Any way you can swap your PSU to another one?
  4. Hey So I just finished my new mini desktop computer, and after running Windows update and installing all the drivers that I need, I notice some audio noise/whine from my headset. This is especially noticeable in Explorer and not so much in games. After installing drivers and hooking up the NI Komplete Audio 6 interface it gets so much worse, and the funny part is: When I turn off the backlight on the Vengeance K70 keyboard, the noise/whine disappears (almost), and when I gradually increase the backlight, the noise gets louder and louder. Connecting the keyboard to a powered USB hub doesn't seem to help much. There is also noise when I move the mouse pointer around. I have never had anything like this earlier, but using different sound interfaces doesn't seem to fix it. Could it be a USB or motherboard problem? Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII IMPACT, Socket 1150 CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Socket 1150 RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 1600MHz 16GB PSU: Corsair RM650 GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 760 2GB PhysX CUDA Mouse: Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Black Tested with Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 audio interface (as well as the one on the motherboard)
  5. Well, I just finished the build and I am in Windows now. So I guess it’s no problem! So far at least  Thanks guys
  6. And also, the first thing I usually do is unbox the power supply and hook it up to the wall outlet. No need to turn it on or anything, just touch it every once in a while to ground yourself
  7. I guess I could remove the cooler and actually bend that particular pipe to increase the gap there
  8. They shouldn’t be so hot. Say the CPU reaches around 50 deg Celsius, and the pipes will always stay cooler than the CPU itself. I was more worried about short circuits and conductivity, especially as the cooler has direct contact with the processor.
  9. Hard to find the correct forum for this, but I’ll give it a go  I am building a super portable mITX with as much beef as I can possibly fit in the yellow Corsair 380T case. Now, I think I have a problem with the ASUS Maximus VII Impact motherboard and the Noctua NH-L12 CPU Cooler: I just installed the cooler, and I think one of the heat pipes are actually touching the CMOS battery on the motherboard, as showed in the images. I am not sure tho, but either way it’s pretty close. Is this a problem? Don’t want to fire up the motherboard if this actually causes damage. Any help or tips appreciated
  10. True, I just installed FF as well, so that I can switch browser should I see fit. Think I'll update this list as things pop up.
  11. 1. Google search If you did a search on Google, you could quickly hit TAB and maneuver down the results and select the website of interest. If you press TAB today, you end up on Google+. Dear God, why? 2. Google search images Why do everything have to be so fancy? Browsing through image results on Google is such a mess, and it's slow and clumsy. Why can't they just make things simple thus making it work flawlessly and smoothly? 3. YouTube Why do I have to press k to pause the video? Isn't the spacebar good enough? Why do I have to click in the video window first in order to maneuver around in the video with the arrow keys?
  12. 8 months old Corsair AX1200i died. Swapped it for a new one and the system now works fine Thanks for the help
  13. Thanks for your replies. Electricity should be pretty stable, and we also have a few other desktop computers running in the same house without any issues. I actually tried to do a memtest yesterday, but of course the PC just shut down in the middle of the process. I was using all memory sticks for this test tho, so I will try running the test on single modules when I get back home! I will also see if I can find another PSU, even tho I really trust the AX1200i as well as the PSU self test being successful Installing OS on a single disk in order to rule out RAID issues was a great idea actually. I assume the RAID controllers are completely disabled when running in AHCI, and thus motherboard will not detect and power off if there is an issue with the RAID? Also, can the RAID controller ‘wear out’ over time as I use both RAID 0 and RAID 1 straight off the motherboard, or is this something I can continue to be doing without being worried? Thanks again for your help guys.
  14. I may also add that I've been hosting some local Mincraft and Feed the Beast servers on this computer (using java which can be quite CPU heavy). I did some 'ghetto test drive' on the CPU by opening the Feed the Beast launcher which caused an immediate shutdown as well. At this point the computer had been running stable on low speed for five minutes or so.
