  1. Hello, I just rebuilt my computer with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and an MSI Radeon RX 5600 XT Mech OC graphics card. I reused my case, PSU and storage to save money. However, I've been having an issue with the computer turning off abruptly during gaming and it won't turn back on unless I unplug the power supply and press the power button to drain the capacitors, then will the computer restart. The power supply is an Antec EA-500 500 watt PSU. In the course of troubleshooting, it was suggested I run the GPU off my 500 watt Antec while I run the rest of my computer off a different power supply and see if the problem happens. That has gone well and I haven't had any issues with the dual power supplies so it looks like I need a new power supply. Unfortunately, the other power supply I have is only 450 watts and only has a 6 pin PCIe whilst the graphics card needs an 8 pin. So it looks like I'm in the market for a new PSU. It worked fine on my old setup but my old setup had an AMD x4 845 and a GTX 750 TI so not much power use there. I got this PSU on Ebay a year ago for a different project and eventually swapped it into my main rig since it has 2 x 8 pin PCIe power so I don't know what it's past life was like. What would be a good PSU? I'd prefer it to be at somewhat modular at the least.
  2. Alright. I ran Furmark for 15 minutes and didn't have a problem. I also played some GTA and no problem either. Looks like I need a new PSU.
  3. Yes. I have Furmark running now, we'll see what happens.
  4. I have a 450 watt power supply but it only has a 6 pin PCIe plug and the GPU needs an 8 pin.
  5. Yeap. I'm sitting mid game and it just shuts off as if someone turned off the power to the outlet. I can't turn it back on unless I remove the power from the power supply and push the power button to drain all the residual charge in the power supply. Only then will it turn back on.
  6. The GPU was at 66°C while under load so I don't know why or how it would be overheating. Both fans are running all the time and ramped up during load.
  7. Hello, I just put my new desktop together yesterday and I'm running into an odd issue where the computer keeps shutting off. When it shuts off, pressing the power button does nothing. I have to remove the power going to the power supply and wait for the capacitors to drain before I can turn it back on. I've even had it shutoff during POST right after it shutdown the first time. The parts are as follows: Ryzen 5 3600, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB, Asrock B450M Pro 4, Antec EA-500 PSU and an MSI 5600 XT Mech OC. At first I thought it because I had XMP turned up to 3200 MHz but it crashed even when I turned XMP off. I also ran Memtest and there were no errors found. I had it crash twice today while waiting GTA Online to load after playing some story mode and then I had it crash when I was actually playing in GTA Online. It also crashed during Resident Evil 3. I ended up downloading FurMark and left it running. I walked away from the computer at about the 7 minute mark and when I came back about 5 minutes later, the computer was off. At this point, I'm thinking it's the power supply. I'm thinking if it was the GPU, I would be able to turn the computer back on immediately. Unfortunately, the only other PSU I have only as a 6 pin PCIe power and the GPU requires an 8 pin. I've used this PSU in my old system with no problems but I was only running an AMD x4 845 and a GTX 750 Ti. I got the PSU off Ebay last year for another computer but I swapped it into my main PC since it had two 8 pin PCIe plugs. Am I correct in my assumption that the PSU is at fault here?
  8. How would this 2060 be? https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2060-gv-n2060ixoc-6gd-rev-2-0/p/N82E16814932210?item=N82E16814932210&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-pc-_-pla-_-video+card+-+nvidia-_-N82E16814932210&gclid=CjwKCAjwqdn1BRBREiwAEbZcR-AkDoHzj31OIyfreR2j3ypEK7oztsykoe75KeAt-TQgFfXwZ_Ca5xoC1zYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  9. Slight problem, it appears the 5700 needs a 6+8 pin power, my power supply only has a 6+2 pin PCIe power and I'd rather not upgrade the power supply at the moment. I purchased a 16gb kit of G.SKILL Ripjaws V ram that's 3200 MHz and CL16.
  10. Hello! I'm in the process of upgrading my computer and I'm shoving in it a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB of RAM. I'm trying to figure out what graphics card to get. At the moment, I don't plan on playing anything higher than 1080p unless I get a good deal on a new monitor. I also ordered a VR headset (which prompted this whole upgrade) so I will also have that to play with. I know at a minimum I should get a card with 6GB of VRAM. At this point, I want to do this upgrade right but it also should be as cheap as possible. I'd say no more than $300. This should be a fun little build. I've been wanting to build a proper powerful computer since I got a job 5 years ago but I never did. My GTX 750TI and AMD x4 845 has served me well but it's long overdue for an upgrade.
  11. That was my thinking. I've got a 240GB SSD on my desktop and I think that a similar capacity drive would work just fine. Thanks!
  12. Hello! I've been searching for the last few months for a new laptop. I've narrowed it down to 2 laptops from Lenovo. I did look at options from Dell, HP, etc. but they didn't have what I was looking for vs. the prices. I'm looking for some advice on what to do. The 2 laptops I'm stuck on is the Lenovo Ideapad 330(15) or the Lenovo V330 (15). They both have 15.6 inch 1080p screens, 4 core 8 thread processors of similar performance, 8GB RAM, 1TB 5400RPM HDDs. The Ideapad 330 has a Ryzen 2500U with integrated Vega 8 GPU but only has one SATA drive slot. The Lenovo V330 has an Intel i5-8250U with Intel HD 620 graphics but it has a SATA drive slot as well as an M.2 slot. I'm leaning more towards the AMD model since it has better on board graphics but it's only got the once drive slot. Either way I'm replacing the hard drive with an SSD but I was thinking with the Intel model, I could boot from an M.2 SSD and use the HDD for storage. My price range is around $500. For the interested, this is what I want on my laptop. At least a quad core, 4GB+ RAM, on board graphics that will be enough for day to day tasks and light video editing and a 1080P screen. I mainly use my laptop for working in Google Earth and some video editing, watching Youtube, etc. Funny enough my old Dell Studio 1737 does these tasks without issue but the hinges are destroyed and the iGPU isn't up to the task of acceleration in today's programs.
  13. We got it working. We ended up having to uninstall the Quadro K1000M driver and let it do its thing.
  14. My dad's work laptop is normally used in a docking station where the internal display is off and an external display is used. However, he brought home the laptop for the weekend and when it powers on, we can see the BIOS and the Windows loading screen on the internal display but when the login screen appears, the internal display turns off and goes to the monitor connected to the VGA port. The internal laptop display is shown in device manager as well as Display setting and the nVidia control panel. However, we are unable to activate the internal display no matter what we tried. We tried Function + F4 and nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on? Just to clear it up, the laptop is not plugged into the docking station at home and that's where we are having the issue. The laptop uses a Quadro 1000M running on Windows 10 x64.
  15. I did but I don't remember what the results were. :\ I was writing files but even reading was only 70MB/sec.
  16. I got the speed issues resolved although I'm still getting speeds of 70MB/sec.
  17. Well, the issue is getting the wire fed down. The holes in the sub floor are wide enough for the furnace connections but not for the ethernet cable to easily fit. I'm going to have use a fish tape to get it through. After I get it through the floor, it's a straight shot.
  18. Lucky for me, my room on the second floor is right next to the furnace closet and from the furnace closet to the basement, it's a clear opening with only a gas line and AC lines. I plan on running the wire through the there.
  19. Thankfully, my house isn't wired. I do plan on running an ethernet cable from my basement computer room to my bedroom on the second floor. Fun.
  20. That may be overkill for me. All my networking is within a 5 foot radius of the switch in my computer room.
