  1. indeed, I am not planing to play on it. I was thinking of getting the mx250, but i am afraid of the perf with simple things. thanks!
  2. this is why I asked my questions, I dont need such a GPU in my laptop, it is not good enough to replace my rig, I would rather have something slimer, with a smaller brick with a weaker gpu. ( under 100W would be great for thunderbolt charging). for the bulky aspect, i might be wrong, but it is light because of the magnesium chassis, however it doesnt change its size. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice laptop but it is a bit too much for my need.
  3. I could adjust my price a bit if the difference makes sens. but the mag 15 it seems much thicker than the one i listed, maybe it's just the design that makes it look bigger. Also the power brick seems huge. It does seems to be a good price to performance but it looks a bit bulky.
  4. Canada, QC. around 2000 CAD would be nice. thanks!
  5. Hello everyone! I am looking for a laptop to buy in the next few days. My main needs are the following, very good battery life. weight, good processor, Nvidia graphics ( working with render engine that require a cuda card to open my files, even if i dont render). at least 16gb RAM and a good ssd. I will use this laptop for notes taking, media consumption and work ( i do 3d and 2d animations ). This is not my only computer (I have a workstation), i dont expect to render much 3d with it, but I will model, animate and set scenes. i mainly wants to be able to work at a client, work in a cafe and on the go, as i do travel quiet a lot). I was hesitating between Lenovo X1 extreme, XPS 15 and Msi prestige. but the lenovo battery doesnt seem great. Xps seems to have some throttling and some build issues. So here I am, going with the Prestige 15"+ 1650. when I discovered there was a 14" version with either the same GPU or a mx250. Would it be a mistake to go with the 14"? does it heats up too much? and if so, is going for a MX250 puts up less heat while still giving me a bit of power? Is the 14" crippled by its single fan system? should i stick to the 15" version even if it is bigger? if someone has used both or one of them I would be super interested to see what they think about it. thanks a lot!
  6. Ha! Thanks for your answer! Sorry, I am not counting the price of the dock, for it, I plan to get a RazerCore + Gtx 2070 to render my projects. but if Thunderbolt is on 1000+ I guess I can invest up to 1200$.
  7. Hello guys! I am looking for the perfect laptop! and in that jungle of brands and models I am a bit lost. My idea is the following: I am looking for a Long lasting, light Laptop. 16Gb ram minimum and a 4-6Core +HT CPU (3.6Ghz min). + 1 SSD. I dont care about the graphic card, as long as it can run some recent OpenGL Instructions and light 3d As I plan to have an eGPU that I can connect when I am home. That will not be my main RIG. I will mostly do After Effect/PR Export, 3D scenes modifications (but no Renders) and Photo Editing. So My main focus would be, a 13-15"laptop with a good IPS screen, Long lasting battery and a decent CPU.+Thunderbold USBC to link my eGPU. Is this something realistic with a sub 1000CAD ? If so, would you have any recommendations? thanks a lot!
  8. Ha! a short throw! always good to have! especially for on-screen multiplayer! I want it!
  9. hey, not bad! but is Acer a trusty brand? a couple of year ago it was known for cheap quality, is it still the case? thanks a lot though!
  10. Hello guys! i am looking for a secondary working station, mainly for photoshop that I can use when I work away from home . it would be used in coordination with a 13" cintiq so the screen size is not a priority( as long as it is easily transportable) i would just need at least 16 go of ram and a graphic chipset that allow the Gpu acceleration in Photoshop. in the jungle of laptop and notebook, I am lost. could you recommend something around 700-800$cad? thanks a lot!
  11. well you dont need to plug your screen anyway. beeps are enough can't you get a Speaker from a friend or another computer? worst case scenario buy one from a repair store. should not cost you much. without it you can always try to leave the GPU and one RAM module, switching it's place and trying another one. if you see something on screen it is good news.
  12. Disconnect everything from your Motherboard ( GPU RAM HDD, other cards... except Power supply). then plug the screen on the motherboard output and boot. It should beep non stop. After that, connect only one RAM module. if it boots and beep differently, its good sign. if it does nothing, change the slot or the ram module. Try all combinations possible. in the case it beeps, add each elements after another until you finally find which one is faulty. if nothing happen even after removing everything... your MB is probably dead.
  13. If you many screens then it should come from your GPU or maybe your Power supply that fail to give enough power when the gpu ask for it. can you give details on your Power supply? When you give the temperature of the system, I guess you are talking about the Processor. try to get the temperature of the GPU using gpuZ. you can have a log saved so you can check it after a reboot. let us know the result
  14. wild guess here: would it be possible that the old HDD would have a recovery partition from dell, that would have been loaded in ram . so after rebooting several time without the hdd, your ram would have been flushed. have you cleared CMOS at some point?
  15. Yeah it's true, a better way would be to check the load of the graphic card on the different games.
