Bought 6 Seagate 7200.11 1TB back a few years ago, 4 DOA, 2 'worked' (1 was making terrible noises).  Returned them all for 1TB WD Black and Newegg freaking drop shipped my new ones while I sent back the defectives, sweeeet!
 
They were pretty new when I bought them, a few weeks later I see TONS of threads about some firmware issue, man that must have sucked for them, have not bought a Seagate drive since, WD reds and blacks FTW

I have no idea what you're talking about. Building my X99 system was the smoothest system I've ever put together. Is your system even turning on? How is it not going into BIOS/UEFI? Is it your keyboard that isn't initializing before post? Did you add an extra riser beneath the motherboard on accident? Extra risers will short your motherboard and the system will not even turn on.
 
There's so many issues that it could be. At this point it doesn't sound like hardware issues at all.

^ I was thinking the same thing watching that video just a few hours ago!  Maybe 1M PPD??  Seems reasonable

If you check the folding stats over the weekend, then you can see that LTT dropped from an 30+ Million PPD down to 22 million for Saturday/Sunday.
 
This to me is a clear indication that they prioritized Core 15 projects over this last weekend.

The reason core 15 causes coil whine is because of how GPUs run them. With newer core 17 and 18 units(and all modern games/benchmarks for that matter) all of the physics calculations are offloaded onto the CPU and the GPU acts like a co-processor, but the older core 15 units are completely self contained and force the GPU to do it's own physics calculations. This puts a lot of strain on the GPU because its something they were never intended to do (There's a reason technologies like PhysX never really took off). Heavy strain on the GPU requires more power at constant levels, and to keep up with that the capacitors are firing much more often. This creates an audible vibration that we perceive as 'whining'. The way I try to justify it is that a happy GPU is a singing GPU

The card will ONLY whine when folding core 15 work units
 
Furmark - silent
Gaming - silent
Heaven/other benchmarks SILENT...
 
Overclocking/overvolting make it worse (when folding) I can underclock it and it goes away but wtf - I bought a G1 for a reason...
 
Very strange that it only happens under this one particular load, even in furmark at stock and overclocked to 1.5Ghz its silent, start up a core 15 WU and it screams....
 
 
Just wanted to add my experience, wish there was a way to avoid core 15 WU's... I can make this thing change pitch by messing with voltage or clock speed when running folding core 15, otherwise is silent under all clocks/voltages even under more extreme conditions than folding like furmark - very strange....

Never would have even KNOWN this thing existed if it were not for this site/YT channel and I LOVE this thing, just wanted to say THANKS!!!  And OMG is it so sexy... once you reformat and scale the monitor down that is... (non touch 1080p version here) it looked pretty bad until I set all display options down a notch for sizing... Now its amaaaaaazing!
 
Edit: also wanted to add, I have been on battery power only, reformatting, installing drivers, etc etc for 6 hours now and it says I have 3 hours left LOL and the damn things weighs TWO POUNDS omg love this thing

I'm willing to bet that in the next update (24 minutes from now) we will be rank 23. We are absolutely kicking ass and taking names, I have no doubt we will be joining the likes of Folding@Evga and overclock.net at the top.

And mod list, umm 2 pages long, but most important highlights are GTX7076, 272 cams, CP forged pistons, Pauter forged rods, full port and polish, oversized valves, etc nomnom, I hate making my payments but all I have to do is go for a drive to remember why I make them,...
 
O and props to whoever LOLs at the licence plate, it was a bet hahaha (and no, not the one in the pic below, in the album that I got for it later! )

Good choice, the tranny on its own is worth it IMO, basically dont ever have to upgrade it (well, besides the clutch)
 
Edit: and when I was in HS the only ppl that had STi's were navy/army kids that bought them with their bonus's haha, I got out of college, got a real job and was like... you know what fuck it, sold my Integra and went for it lol.
 
Edit 2: make sure that you either do your reseach and buy one stock with a warranty and keep it mostly stock or have a savings set aside if you buy a modded one, these things are beasts but there is money involved in getting 400-500 HP to the ground out of 2.5 liters!!!! I know to many ppl that bought them and were forced to sell when the repairs started piling up, just be ready for that trying to get a lot of power out of such a small motor.  My only advice

My friend James (The one that made me fall in love with Preludes) has a fart cannon on his car (Previous owner did it, not him) when you go pedal to the medal your ears will actually pop because of how loud it is

Yeah, I wouldn't try anything with poles or anything near by until I feel confident in my skills with AWD

I've drifted RWD (1994 Chevy S10 Auto) and was actually able to hold it amazingly, which was surprising to me because I never went sideways before that
 
I'm thinking about going to the local mall parking lot, which is pretty decent sized, once I can get the hang of it I can try to do some of the chains I did in the S10 once I'm comfortable with it

If you're going loud and proud, then at least have the power to back the sound (which you obviously have)

I have an STI as one of my dream cars too

A friend of mine's father has a WRX STI hatchback which has had quite a bit of work done to it since 2009 (Which is my personal favorite body style)
He told me if I go do driver's training courses for defensive driving I can borrow it in the winters if I leave my car with him

No shame in that, its some serious bang for the buck fun!  This beast can spin all 4 (285 wide tires mind you) off the line... its... scary sometimes but I LOVE it  and good thing I do because it hates my wallet and my savings account

Good choice, the tranny on its own is worth it IMO, basically dont ever have to upgrade it (well, besides the clutch)
