  1. Forgot about ISPs not giving people a static IPs, my bad. New idea: stamp every install with a unique ID Regardless spotify premium only allows one stream at a time, and so do other platforms. Netflix has been very generous up to now and people seem to forget corporation owe them nothing. If you dont like the change, vote with your wallet and stop your subscription. Fyi im pretty sure im running 1080p on my ubuntu installs running chrome
  2. Okay lets play devil advocate for a minute. The fact is the increased competition in the online streaming market has probably led to a rise in license fees for Netflix. These licenses have also been negotiated with the assumption that one user = one household. From a 2016 interview with Hasting: Now we all know people that don't exactly follow the one household per account rule, and for netflix it would be rather easy to figure out. Personally I would use a query excluding all mobile sessions, list IPs with more than 4 monthly sessions in the last 3 months, and count every user with more than 3 IPs as a "violator" (just not to be a d*ck). It would be a very rough estimate of the amount of people that break the one-household-per-account constraint and I can think of multiple scenarios that would result in a violation but still. The best way to enforce this constraint is to limit the number of screens, so fair enough. You can still share your account with 3 friends for a price far below 4 separate accounts. The thing that bothers me is the UHD shift to premium tier as I do not see the direct causation. The only added cost is bandwidth as nothing else really changes. Am I missing something? Or is it just letting demanding people pay a premium to cover cost in an effort to keep the base tier cheap(er)? Now I get bandwidth on that scale isn't cheap but still.
  3. We seem to have some miscommunication I do NOT want an upgrade path, I want to build it and not look at it for 5-10 years. I do not even want to be tempted by the possibility . Except for the HDDs ofcourse, those will be swapped out for bigger models when they fail or become insufficient. However your first answer convinced me the asrock j5005-itx packs enough punch for what I want, a few Plex transcodes and some light webbrowsing/multimedia, so you have been a great help!
  4. Thanks for the tip! Honestly, my drives are usually different makes and sizes and within a four bay nas it wouldnt be too difficult to keep them apart. I am considering this j5005 board because of the lack of expansion. Found a €5 dual sata pcie 1x controller and that will allow me to run an ssd in the case (FYI this case). Was just planning on switching/expanding drives as they fail or I need more space. Just using some bash scripts to keep track of all the files and making sure every file is on atleast 2 drives for backup. The thing is if I go with a mobo where I can upgrade the cpu or run a x16 pcie card, it will be just a matter of time before I switch the case to a node 304, upgrade the cpu, decide to get a midtower for additional drives, and on and on and on. Before I know it I will have a storinator All I need is a simple NAS/Server that can handle a few transcodes and some webbrowsing.
  5. How is €3 more for no added functionality a good deal? Unless they are gonna start officially allowing sharing, instead of the current stance of "we dont like it but cant stop it" there would only be a pricehike concealed within a new tier. Honestly, the only reason someone uses the ultra tier is for sharing so fair enough. Its still alot cheaper than 4 basic tier subscriptions.
  6. And you think ISPs do this for free? Something that I havent seen mentioned is the fact Netflix needs to cover their cost for originals and copyrights one way or another. With the increased amount of competition in virtually all regions, pricing of license fees should have presumably gone up.
  7. Thank you so much for ur input! All i was planning to use it for is as a fourbay nas (booting through usb or get a sata addin card for a small ssd). The ability to do some webbrowsing was an added bonus so I do not have to boot my power hungry desktop for some youtube/netflix. Sounds like it should be powerfull enough for that. A new h110 itx board is around 60 and I had a line on an i3-6100 for 50 euros, but i just know sooner or later Ill end up with an i7 NAS which Im trying to avoid
  8. Hi guys! Im contemplating building a dedicated (almost) always on Nas/plex server based on the asrock j5005-itx board to offload these tasks from my main desktop that dual boots ubuntu and windows. Although the pentium silver j5005 apparently beats the Q6600 and 4gig ddr4 sodimms are supercheap secondhand, I wonder if it has enough power. Maybe I am better served with a second hand haswell/skylake platform at a similar price? Honestly the lack of an upgrade path is super appealing to me as it wouldnt be the first time I needlessly sink way to much money into a build. Ideally it would also be able to handle some local video playback/web browsing. Just tagging @manikyath because I saw he owns this particular mobo.
  9. I would advise against buying a msata ssd. Mobos have made the switch to m.2 quite awhile ago and you simply wont find any new products offering a slot. Sata will probably stick around for ever seeing some of us just need that spinning rust. Nvme drives are often quicker and snappier than sata, but it isnt night and day as it was from moving from an hdd to a ssd. Nevertheless, everything that relies on files of lets say +500 mb will load (slightly) quicker. Just get yourself a 2.5 inch sata drive, no hassle with addin boards now and in the future, no hassle with getting it to boot. As for brands, ive personally only had Crucial and Samsung drives, and none of mine have failed over the last 7-8 years. Still rocking a 128gb crucial m4 as my main daily ubuntu drive. But honestly, just look at which drive you like and read some reviews.
  10. What case are you working in? My suggestion was ditching the current cpu cooling altogether, but if its built into the case that is a no go
  11. Well you are free to give it a try, im not running ciffe in my sytem thats for sure I have the feeling this is video suggestion? In that case I think you are in the wrong section mate
  12. You ordered the TG and amazon delivered the solid version, all within the EU? Legally they are in breach of contract, and should replace the unit free of charge. Legally you can cancel the payment and let them deal with picking it up etc if they refuse to play ball. As to getting your hands on a TG side panel. Contact Fractal directly and tell them your story, usually these guys go above and beyond in my experience. Its not gonna be free or cheap though but they just might get it to you outside their usually channels
  13. OP we need some more info! 93C when? Idle, stock load, heavy overclocked load? What cpu are you running in what case? Did you leave the plastic on the block? Whats your ambient temp like? Do u live inside a vulcano? As to placement, it really does not matter that much, it usually differs 1-2C, I would definitely check if the pump is running or if ur fans arent choked up.
  14. @BeorhthereNo offence, you managed to watercool your cpu but dont know what you need in a loop? Sooo you mounted an aio? What you need for your loop: big components: reservior, pomp(+top), gpu block, radiator(s). You will need fittings (2 per big component minimum), soft/rigid tubing, and fluid (just start out with distilled water and change it up later) If you go rigid you will need stuff for bends of a shit ton of extra fittings. As to where to buy: shop.ekwb.com ships to sweden to I think but besides that... Im from holland maybe highflow ships to you? Or casekings? P.S. if you do have an AIO and you are going custom for your gpu anyway you might want to look into adding ur cpu to the loop. Going with a bigger rad adds little extra costs and for the price of a cpu block+ 2 fittings you can outperform any similary priced aio easily. Alternatively you can go the full aio route and look into the nzxt g10 and the likes
  15. Nope... X399 is a amd threadripper board. X299 is a intel 2011-3 board 2700x is a am4 ryzen chip You should really look into compatibility between ur cpu and mobo. First select the cpu u want, check what it sockets into and what chipset is recommended and than select a motherboard. As for compatibilty with ur waterblock. Look at what the cpu you selected sockets into
