Alcandor's Achievements

  1. I have a somewhat rational fear that my computer is going to get stolen while I'm away from my dorm, I was thinking about doing something like this.
  2. I remember when I first started practicing for the A+ exam, I had taken a class on computer servicing that lasted 2 semesters. It was when I was in high school. So anyway, the school that I went to was fairly well off, and the tech department was pretty well off; well of, with the exception of the class I was in. We relied on donated pc parts and general scraps. We had some old stuff. Real old. The ongoing joke was that one of the other boys in my class (we called him the jizzman) had a gtx Titan in his case because this graphics card we had taken out of an old donor unit was massive. It's green pcb was coated in dust when we pulled it out. It was so long that it sat at about the entire length of his pc. I'm pretty sure he was running '98 on it and it kept crashing. I'll text him because I think he might have kept it.
  3. I was thinking if he'd go $400 a piece I might just take it. I don't know if $100 is worth the the smallish bump in performance.
  4. I've seen match-ups where the titans do get slightly outperformed by the 980 when it's one v one. The strix's passive fan feature at low temps is certainly something I'd enjoy; that being said I've heard some pretty awful things about the coil whine after a few months. I have yet to pick peripherals. I will be doing some gaming, but there will be a lot of 3d rendering, a ton of video editing for my work, and a cubic crap ton of image manipulation. (photoshop and adobe after effects are going to be used for hours on end)
  5. Based on silence or performance?
  6. So, I've been building a pretty awesome rig (there'll be a pretty insane build log, but that's a ways down the road) and I've ran into a bit of a dilemma. My friend has 3 of the EVGA superclocked titans he's willing to sell me for between 400-500 a piece. For that much money I could probably get 2 980 strix's. I love the stock appearance of the titans more than the strix model of of 980's, but silence is something I'm very concerned about in the rig (I'd hate to buy all these nf-f12's and then have a jet engine graphics card fan) So I was looking for some input on what you guys think. TL;DR: 2 980 strix vs 3 EVGA superclocked Titans
  7. 2007 Chevy Cobalt Never again. Looking to get a new car, any suggestions? Don't know on price range yet... What are some of your guys' favorite monetarily-moderate cars?
  8. Sorry, can only get one per address... Unless you have 20 addresses under your name... In which case I don't know how much good coat hanger turnover profit should really mean to you in the long run.
  9. I actually noticed that in my own rig when I was doing this. I didn't know if it was actually recognized as a thing though or if I had just messed up my components order. I tried rearranging them a few times and never got too much of a difference. Then again I'm sure it's a case by case basis and just because that's the case in my rig certainly doesn't mean that's the case in all rigs.
  10. What I would do is radiator -> cpu block -> radiator -> gpu block -> reservoir -> pump -> back to the first radiator That way you have one rad that cools the water before entering the cpu and one that cools the water before entering the gpu. But the point is that you can have two on one loop.
  11. It's odd to think that there's a 96 year old on the forums... Just Joshing. Mine is from the greek word for manly. I've always seen myself as a smaller meek man and I've always wanted to that big, strong, morally upright man. I call him Alcandor.
  12. No, that's an awesome idea. I'm totally going to do that.
  13. Unfortunately I need more SATA ports, as tempting as buying a new mobo is... I figured I'd just use my mobo SATA for my ssds and the card for a few more hdds. Honestly I'm investing in larger capacity drives next time.
  14. I've been thinking about getting a raid card a lot lately, upon browsing newegg a raid card to fit in a pciex1 lane and came across this guy (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZX2C38896&cm_re=raid_card-_-16-124-027-_-Product) and was wondering what everyone's though was on it. This is shallow but the colors fit my build and it's not that expensive, so it seems like a viable option given the price. Thoughts?
