  1. Hi, Need advice on a laptop. My partner has decided she wants a budget laptop that is also capable of playing games along with doing her college work. The budget is around £600 or so. What is the better choice for the money? The Acer Nitro 5 at £649 - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205925-pdt.html or The Asus TUF FX505-GT-BQ008T at £589.97 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254683085555
  2. Hi, I've not changed any settings knowingly apart from setting it to offer to save passwords. However recently I've noticed whenever I open a webpage (for example a TV review on rtings.com) that has youtube videos embedded on their site they automatically open in new tabs. Does anyone know how I can stop this?
  3. Thanks. I’ll grab a longer cable and do that. ??
  4. Thanks for the advice. I heard you should keep the wire from master socket to router as short as possible. Think it’s an RJ11 cable? BT refer to it as “Broadband Cable”. Would I get away with running a longer cable to my desk?
  5. Hi folks, I’m after a little bit of advice. I’m in the U.K. and with BT for my internet service. I have their Smart Hub as my router. This plugs into an Openreach 5C Master Socket. The router sits on a bedside table at the socket beside the door. My conundrum is that I want to have all of my devices (PC, Xbox One, Hue Hub) on my desk on a wired connection. I have attached a little diagram of our bedroom set up where the master socket and router are located. What’s the best way without getting the master socket moved to get all my devices hooked up? I’d rather avoid routing multiple Ethernet cables around the skirting board and the door. Is there any other ideas? Thanks folks.
  6. I've tried this already unfortunately. I've tried Samsung Magician on my brother's PC which boots into Windows 7. The drive isn't detected on that either. I'm out of luck basically am I? I wish I hadn't seen that S.M.A.R.T error pop up. It's given me some sort of hope.
  7. Hi, I use my 850 EVO as my Windows 10 Boot Drive. Randomly turned on my PC and it won't boot windows. It goes straight into BIOS. THE 850 EVO isn't shown in the BIOS. I have tried different cables and ports and no luck. I have tried a USB caddy and plugging it in my Brother's PC and it's won't show. I then connected it straight to the motherboard and loaded into BIOS and the following happens, https://youtu.be/KNBcAse2VFk I was all set to RMA this and cope with losing my data. Yes, I'm one of those idiots who didn't back up. But now that my brother's machine is seeing it somewhat then I have a tiny little piece of hope. Does anyone have any ideas? The plan is to RMA this device but now there's the tiniest bit of hope, I want to see about getting data off the drive before sending it off to Samsung. Tldr: Isn't recognised by my PC. Plugged into my brother's PC and flashes up before going into BIOS but isn't recognised any further.
  8. Doing a clean install what's the best way to back up all of my data and programs?
  9. Hi guys! I'm upgrading my motherboard and CPU from an Asus Rampage II Extreme and i7 920 to an Asus X99 Deluxe and i7 5820k. I've been told is be best to put a clean install of Windows 7 on there. I'm not 100% how to approach this. A few months back I cloned my old HDD onto a Samsung 850EVO as I wanted to avoid having to reinstall all my programs etc. So, what's my best bet? Backing up my SSD onto an HDD, then installing Windows 7 and reinstalling everything? If so, what's the best backup software to use? Or are there any other suggestions? Would I in fact be able to just ask the motherboard to boot from the SSD and take it from there without having to reinstalls Windows? Thanks guys!!!
  10. Ahh ok. That would still keep the CPU well cooled, yeah?
  11. Not really. There's no window panel on my case. Would this be a good fan set up for my case? Bottom - IN Bottom Front - IN Side Panel - IN Back Top - OUT H100i - IN Would that be adequate air intake and exhaust fans?
  12. Hi there. Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I built my first PC 5 years ago. I was quite the newbie back then. I'd still consider myself the same. Anyway, I've hardly upgraded it since. I've only put in an SSD and a new HDD for storage. Anyway, to the point. My CPU has been running quite hot at low load recently. I'm using the stock cooler as I didn't factor aftermarket coolers back then. I'm looking into improving the airflow in my case. I've managed to get a Corsair H100i quite cheaply. I'm also looking into getting some new fans. My question is, how should I set up the fans and H100i for the best airflow and cooling performance in my case? Here are my specs: Case: Coolermaster Cosmos S Processor: Intel® Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme X58 Memory: 6 x Corsair Dominator 2GB DDR3 RAM GPU: Gainward GTX260 Golden Sample PSU: Corsair 850w CMPSU 850 HXUK SSD: Samsung 256GB 850 Evo HDD: 3TB WD Green 1.5TB Samsung HD154 UI OS: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium Thanks guys!!!
  13. I've found a solution. I enabled XMP Profile 1 in BIOS. That's sorted it.
  14. I have, yeah. I thought it would work fine considering it's exactly the same RAM pack. I guess not. Erm, I'm not too familiar with that. I did try setting it to 1066, 1333 and 1600 though.
  15. Hi guys, I'm havingh some problems upgrading my RAM. I currently have the below setup. CMASTER RC-1100 COSMOS-S CASE ASUS RAMPAGE II EXTREME X58 Intel Corei7 920 D0 Step SLBEJ 850W CORSAIR CMPSU-850HXUK 1.5TB Ssung HD154UI SATA HDD 250GB 850 EVO MZ-75E250BW/EU 3TB WD30EZRX SATA3 HDD TRIPLE 6GB 3x2G TR3X6G1600C8D LG GH22NS50 22X SATA BLK OEM 896MB GAINW GTX260 GoldenSampl EDIMAX EW-7728In 300Mbps PCI MS Win 7 Home Prem 64bit OEM Now, I have sourced another set of the same RAM. Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 3 x 2gb triple channel memory. Unfortunately, when I put it in my system it only recognises 8gb where as CPU-Z shows there being 12gb. However it does change the channels# from Triple to Dual. I've tried each piece of ram so it's not faulty there. Ive tried lowering it to 1333mhz and 1056mhz and that doesn't help. I also tried upping the voltage slightly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Not too sure why it's going from Triple Channel to Dual channel when I add in the 3 extra sticks.
  16. Hey there! I'm looking into capture cards. I'm leaning towards getting the AverMedia Live Gamer HD. However I've come across a "Lite" version. I'm wondering what the differences are apart from the price. Non-Lite - £109.90 http://www.amazon.co.uk/AverMedia-61C9850000AE-Avermedia-Live-Gamer/dp/B007SRYAPO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429707705&sr=8-1&keywords=AverMedia+HD+Gamer Lite - £59.90 http://www.amazon.co.uk/AVerMedia-HD-Lite-Live-Gamer/dp/B00GLPYA1I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1429706955&sr=8-3&keywords=AverMedia There's a £60 difference there. It must be for something. Thanks guys!
