  1. HP has software that can communicate with the management adapter in the server. That management adapter can see the status of various components, like the RAID controller. Without knowing the exact model of server and RAID controller, there is no real way of answering this question. Also agree on disconnecting it from the internet if not done so already. Windows Server 2008 is no longer safe to have connected to the internet.
  2. I transcode using a Quadro P600. Much cheaper and sufficient for a typical home scenario. A 5600G should be perfect for CPU transcoding without a dGPU, a 16-core is massive overkill unless you need to provide streams for a lot of people, which is unlikely.
  3. ZFS and hardware RAID don't really mix, as you've observed. This is not a Proxmox issue, it's a ZFS "issue" (it's by design, so not really an issue). Both the R720 and DL380 Gen8 have PCIe slots. Put in an HBA and connect the drives to the HBA, then you can see all individual drives in Proxmox to create a ZFS pool. If you don't want to do that, just skip ZFS and use local storage on the created RAID arrays from the PERC/Smartarray controllers.
  4. The first gens could run any OS as it had a Pentium M, Nvidia 7300go graphics and 256MB RAM. Linux, OS X Tiger, technically even Windows, lol. Fun times.
  5. How did you create the boot USB? Rufus always works for me. Use MBR for non-UEFI.
  6. You didn't accidentally try to install FreeNAS in UEFI mode, did you? It won't work in that mode but install fine. Core 2 is too old to support UEFI.
  7. The Alpine is good enough for a Pentium or an Athlon, but not a full blown i5/Ryzen 5 for sure. The stock cooler is actually a good bit better, and that's saying something as the wraith stealth is honestly a turd.
  8. Right, so basically like this: Interface WAN1: ISP1 (Static) Interface WAN2: ISP2 (Dynamic) Interface LAN1: Goal is to allow all traffic to WAN1 and WAN2 Interace LAN2: Goal is to allow traffic to only WAN1 It'd make sense to use two VLAN's or at least two subnets. One subnet contains all resources that need a port forwarding (i.e. a Server VLAN or subnet) and you create an ACL that traffic from that subnet can only go to WAN1 and basically leave the other VLAN/subnet for everything else. That's how I'd design this.
  9. What's your goal? Usually dual WAN is meant for loadbalancing and failover. You can't combine two connections into one, if that's what you're trying to do. You can however have them both be active and let the router decide on which connection to use, based on a loadbalancing algorithm. Maybe this guide helps?
  10. I agree with @xg32. I've run a 2700X, 3600X and 5600X on the same cooler I have now (Corsair H115i) and both the 2700X and 3600X were significantly hotter running chips than the 5600X, which makes sense as they are 105W, 95W and 65W TDP respectively. Objectively, all stock coolers are junk, and especially the Wraith Stealth that the 5600X ships with. The Evo should fare much better. Also make sure you have sufficient airflow and don't try using a PC in a 40C ambient room
  11. Not on an 11 year old graphics card, no. It's simply not supported anymore as of 2018 so versions of photoshop beyond CC 2018 are likely not going to work properly.
  12. The GTX570 is a Fermi card, for which driver compatibility was cut in 2018. Studio drivers weren't a thing yet so Fermi never got any. The latest driver is this one: https://www.nvidia.co.uk/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/391.35/391.35-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe&lang=uk&type=TITAN If that driver doesn't work, you have two options: - Disable GPU acceleration and forget those features. - Replace the graphics card with a card that has at least a Maxwell core (GTX750/750Ti, GTX900 series).
  13. Changed the board for something more compatible with Ryzen 5000. Same for RAM. These Crucial modules are super stable with the 5600X. 14. The memory does in fact run at 1333MHz, the rated speed is in MT/s, not MHz (Megatransfers). Because DDR memory can do two operations in a single clock cycle, it's referred to as Double Data Rate. The MHz/MT/s confusion is as old as DDR and never really went away.
  15. Yep, that’s how they get you. No home version of Windows ever supported more than 1 physical CPU and never will.
  16. That motherboard has a very poor VRM. It will output 125W but it will cause the VRM to run at over 100 degrees C and then throttle or crash. You will fry your board at some point with that CPU. You'll need a high end AM3+ board to properly run an FX8300 or FX9500 CPU or a LOT of cold constant airflow directly on the VRM.
  17. Not running a consumer version of Windows (notably Windows 10 Home) by any chance?
  18. If you're not installing to your home folder then yes, it's a permission issue. Linux is designed to only allow you to write to your own home folder by default. If you want full access to other folders, you need to use chmod to change the appropriate permissions.
  19. It should be miniPCIe. Usually half-height. The Intel AC7260 and Intel AC7265 are one of the cheapest and best cards you can put in an older laptop like this. Should be about $20 new.
  20. Probably sounds like crap. Much like designer shoes, they're designed to look good, not to be practical.
  21. Not surprised, there are only beta branches for Ryzen 5000 on B450. They never intended B450 to get Zen3 at all, but made it available as a beta under pressure.
  22. None of these will do 4K encoding, only the 220+ will do decoding but encoding is limited to 1080p. If you want 4K plex with transcoding, you'll need a different solution. You're looking at something with a current gen Intel iGPU that's not a Celeron or a dedicated Nvidia card (Pascal or later).
  23. Can you still boot it with your 2700? If not, it's probably bricked and you'll need to recover or reflash the BIOS.
  24. Not much budget to work with. Old business desktops are the best bet. HP ProDesk 400 is a good quiet alternative. Even comes in a mini flavor (much like Optiplex Micro and ThinkCenter Tiny) which can easily be hidden somewhere.
