  1. Logged in just to chime in with my disappointment for the Eight Sleep sponsorship. I don’t even have a principled problem with subscription services if there is some kind of constant new value being delivered but a subscription app based mattress topper is ludicrous and to me is Juicero levels of out of touch tech startup culture. I don’t understand how this sponsorship was approved in good faith.
  2. I gotta say, an ultra-short throw projector would be a perfect fit in my small condo setup
  3. Hey, I'm honestly not that mad. As much as a 4K monitor would be cool, I don't think my lowly 390x could cope with it in 3d and 2d scaling isn't good enough in Windows IMO to justify it for 2d desktop use.
  4. Not that I know much about this kind of enterprise level stuff, but 1) the striping in RAID 50 seems to be very risky given that one controller failing or more than one drive failing within each array takes out all data, and 2) wouldn't an actual server grade motherboard (some SuperMicro class board) make more sense for such a business critical server?
  5. I love that NZXT case. 7.5/10 reasonable gaming computer IMO Mine is in sig!
  6. +1 for looking at some Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs. I love the Sayl I have, and HM's customer support has been fantastic - the first one I had started squeaking a month in, and after emailing them, they delivered a brand new replacement and took away the defective item with no hassle whatsoever.
  7. Fibre in Toronto condo for $45+tax, pretty happy overall. 250 plan is additional $30, but I don't live with anyone so no real point.
  8. The wooden headset looks pretty nifty!
  9. This only seems reasonable in the current "new media" zeitgeist. Back in the day, and if you consider LTT and its peers to be "journalists", they would have to turn down any offers for sample hardware that did not need to be returned as well as disclose financial involvement of any kind (including but not limited to sponsorship and investments) for any corporations they cover. The entire point of human biases is that they cannot be noticed by the person harbouring them - i.e. the statement "no I'm not biased" means nothing even if one isn't being intentionally dishonest. One can reasonably claim that the free Titans don't affect the objectivity of LTT's reviews (as Linus suggests, he has far too many graphics cards after all...), but it's just as reasonable to be skeptical. None of this is to say that LTT is or isn't biased, but rather I just wanted to chime to express some disappointment towards how audience standards and expectations have evolved.
  10. If it's still unstable on a clean Win10 install with latest drivers, and your old 780 ran (still runs?) fine then I'm really thinking it's some sort of hardware fault. Might it be some weird incompatibility with your Gigabyte MB? Maybe try updating its BIOS just to see if that might help if you haven't for a while - an old F6 BIOS update they released a while back apparently improves "PCIE-E compatibility". Barring that, the video card is probably faulty. Could you try the card in another computer?
  11. Laughing gif aside, the current XPS 13 was not out when I needed a laptop. It's the first laptop I've recommended to a friend that wasn't the 13' Air or Pro. It comes seriously close, if not exceeding, any Apple offering. Still I played around with it after he got it from a local MS store, and the trackpad - one's *primary* point of interaction with a laptop computer - still falls short of those in an Apple. The glass one in the Dell is great and all that, but the way Windows handles tracking, momentum scrolling, and multi-finger gestures doesn't hold a candle to OSX.
  12. To be fair, malware isn't much of an issue for a reasonably responsible user of a modern fully patched Windows system. That's not the most significant selling point of a Mac laptop though, when I went with the Air 13' there simply wasn't anything comparable in its class in terms of the actual specs: second-to-none trackpad, 10+ hour battery life, all in its compact form factor. More intangibles like in-person support at an Apple Store for the lifetime of the computer, guaranteed software compatibility, security, etc. were just icing on top. *dons flamesuit*
  13. Wow a replacement, seems extreme! In any case I definitely wouldn't want to do that, not playing another round of panel lottery. The only common denominator seems to be displayport at the moment - I wonder if it's inherent in the connection.. I didn't find much with a cursory search on Google, so I thought I'd ask here. I'm just crossing my fingers it's something resolvable with video card drivers some day in the future...
