  1. -> Moved to General Discussion

After review, this thread can stay open. However, it doesn't follow Tech News guidelines. Please fix following and thread can be moved back:

    • Proper source. X, Reddit etc. are not good sources. Better are official statements, news arcticles or youtube channels with reasonable following.
    • More text to summary and personal take. Both of these fall way under standards. As noted in guidelines, these can't be just one or two lines worth to skirt around guidelines.

  2. Anywhere used stuff is sold at. The reason listing isn't moving can be anything. Like I've contacted 6mo old listings and not got response. So unless site deletes old listings automatically, you will see stuff that's not actually available. Then come other things like price, specs, overall condition, location etc. With expensive and big items like laptop, I personally would prefer f2f sales. If you want to move it quicker, you post price just under the range of equal items. For example, prices for 5g modems in my region was €120-170. My asking price was €120 with €100 as low limit. It was listed for 3 weeks before got sold.

Thank you for moving it.  It's actually £679.00 so 840usd.

https://shop.nuance.com/store/nuanceus/Custom/pbPage.dragonProINDV-learnMore This is what I saw since I was also seeing that higher price and "volume pack" next to it. Up to 9 users I think. So if you could get others to get same, it would get really cheap really fast.

  4. CPU temps are more connected to processes running than cooling actually. Cooling is there to keep it down when stress is constant. But usually doesn't react to short jumps and spikes. Usually you wouldn't want that either, its referred as "ramping" when cooler reacts to every small jump there is. Those aren't actually issue. Now, you should worry if your pump is making noise or not running properly. Your fans aren't running. Or you CPU is constantly at higher temps.

Additionally, you fan profile seems to be set to optimize lower noise over performance. Fans are at 900rpm and pump is at 40%. Also looking at your curve, your CPU is never going to be at 25C. Set more realistic targets and you will get better results.

  5. -> Moved to Programs, Apps and Websites

So you are looking for speech recognition software? Because "productivity" is category of products. For example, OneNote falls into that category as it increases productivity. So you need to be more specific about the features you are after if you want recommendations.

As for you worry about licenses. There are usually 3 types of licenses. Ones that lock with account (can be both subscription and lifetime), ones that are activated from server and ones that are activated locally (lock into mobo/hardware). Dragon Professional has server activation. So when you activate it, it checks whether license is real and free to be used. According to their support sites, you can free license by uninstalling software while connected to internet. If there would be the case where you PC just dies or gets stolen etc. support can deactivate it for you. I have done that once with another software. Just show them proof of purchase.

E: $300 for license is also really hefty price for a student. Not gonna judge you on it. But I recommend you think whether getting dictation software while working on degree is worth it for your studies and future career.

I was so sure it was the Canadian Embassy

South until you're North... The Canadian Embassy is a few blocks south of the starting point, but I found the lockers one street over.

What a shame I'm not Romanian.

Merged to official video thread. Please note in future that if you make vague or non-existent references, your threads and posts will be treated as such. So either add enough context to give others idea what you are talking about, or post to thread where the background information is already stated.

Asking or proving help on bypassing any set restrictions is not allowed. I assume this is your workplace. Take the subject up with your superiors or workers representative. Doing something that will essentially break the trust will be worse for all, not just you.

    Quote
    • Discussion on engaging in hacking or cracking is not allowed, including:
      • Bypassing security features, restrictions, or filters (including parental filters, school restrictions, or workplace monitoring), including on your own device.

  9. Pretty much any shoemaker or sewer (or any other craftsperson who does clothes or shoe repair) will be able to fix that, and probably for pocket change.

The proper sized rivet should do the trick just fine.

They would need a new clamp too, the lid is broken off there.

Not a sponsor thing, but from today's video, please don't actually have links to LinuxFX, it's basically malware and should not be trusted

Main channel videos get their own threads. Please post feedback to there. It's more likely that those who worked on the video see it.

Your notion has been posted by others there.

Captcha everywhere, blocked my many services,

These two are most likely because some of their customers or if they have free tier, those users. CAPTCHA, especially on CF sites, comes if there's unusually high number of bots coming from that IP. Services blocking IP is something they do to VPNs. So there, looks like they like money over improvements.

But thats not the charge, the wording tells me it can be anything after i place my order. 6 dollars can turn into 60 dollars at the border LOL. See where i am coming from?

Our customs office provides calculator for these. Basically, it's estimation based on the country's general rates that are given. Here's page for UK customs https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty. As noted there, standard VAT is 20% (which equals $6). But since VAT you pay for imports includes shipping and handling fees, store can't give you final number before shipping fee is calculated.

Looking at the wording there, those fees will be paid on entry, not to store. But of that I'm not sure.

Not happy about my Apos Linus Tech Tips keycaps order. They advertise them as "Full-size, compact, and everything in between", but the set does not contain a 7.0u spacebar. So it is not compatible with my new Bauer Lite 65% keyboard. I reached out to them to return the set. But I need to pay the shipping fee myself, which is more than half the value of the set.

Is it non-refundable shipping fee like what Amazon does or do they refund it with rest of the order? Making customer pay for return shipping is somewhat standard procedure. Especially if its international shipping. The difference with good and bad customer service comes whether they refund shipping fee or not.
