  1. Hi! This was sold to me online by a company who's replacing their servers so I'm hoping to seek help here on what adapter or PSU I should buy to make this setup work.
  2. Hi all! I currently got a HP ML350 Gen 10 Server and I want to use it as a workstation. It's all up and running except for a GPU. Now I'm planning to run an RTX2070 or RTX 2080 on this beast but I don't seem to have the proper cables (it doesn't have 8pin power plugs like those in normal PCs) to make this setup work. Is there a workaround for this - a cable that converts from the power supply or something? This is my first time converting something like this to a workstation and hopefully there's a workaround for this. Thanks! :) IMG_1840.HEIC.heif IMG_1839.HEIC.heif IMG_1836.HEIC.heif IMG_1831.HEIC.heif
  3. I've always wanted to have a Razer Blade! For years, all I could do is watch its reviews, window shop and test it inside the Razer Store. If ever I do get a chance to have my very own Razer Blade, it would definitely be my daily driver for creating content that I'm passionate about. Razer Blade > Razer Blade Stealh because the Nvidia GPU is a must for everyday applications that I use - Premiere Pro, Photoshop and etc. Win or lose, congratulations to LinusTechTips! You guys are awesome and you never fail to fulfill my love for new tech! Here's to having more subscribers and to more success in the future! Please still be there - still creating content and reviewing new tech - up to when we get to the age of the Jetsons and beyond!
  4. Hi everyone! I'm just curious how much data do you have backed up on Crashplan? I'm currently subscribed to Crashplan Individual Plan and it's running on my Windows Server 2012 backing up around 10TB of files. In a month I was able to to backup 640GB of data. What I'm doing is after a it's uploaded, I delete the file from my server since it's already backed up already on Crashplan - crashplan has a setting where it keeps files on their server even if it's deleted. I know it's not safe but these files we're backing up are actually really old files from old clients - in our contract we only keep files for a year. We're just uploading it just in case though not needed. So.. how much data do you have on Crashplan and has it been reliable for you when you restore files?
  5. So while I was watching one of linus videos here - I wondered is there a way to at least double my network speeds without having to put in a Network Card? Then I found this - http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter-USB32000SPT/dp/B00D8XTOD0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456434866&sr=8-1&keywords=startech+usb+3+to+dual+gigabit Guess what... IT WORKS! I get decent 180mb/s from my Windows Server 2012 File Server to my PC using a single USB 3 connection! I also tried plugging just one on my onboard nic and one on this device and boom - still getting the same speed! Now I will need to get another cable and see if I can get at least 280+mb/s from the SSD on my FIle Server. I'll definitely buy more of these and try if I can use 2 or more at the same time to get greater speed (but no, I'll just be using them on the workstations that need the great speed so probably just one of these on the 3 motherships we have :P)
  6. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the help! Will wait for your update!
  7. Hi! I'm actually using this for raid: http://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-HFR2-SU3S2-PRORAID-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B003YFHEAC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1456428365&sr=1-1&keywords=mediasonic+raid I plug these RAID enclosures to my server directly and serve as it's storage. I opt for this so if the server crashed (knock on wood) - I can just pull out this from the shelf and plug it on a PC via USB3 or esata and go back to work. Also, I ran a test using USB 3 and the speeds were slower than the esata connection. Which is weird. Hmm. Uhm I didn't run the diagnostic. Is that bad? Uh-oh. But I do have another enclosure with an 8TB drive copying whatever on this RAID 10 array is using a sofware called Bvckup every 10mins.
  8. I see. Will these SFP+ Cards work? They seem super cheap - http://www.amazon.com/HP-Connectx-2-Interface-671798-001-666172-001/dp/B0178CNZ9U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1456428118&sr=8-4&keywords=10gb+sfp+card For cables - http://www.amazon.com/10Gtek%C2%AE-2-Meter-10GBASE-CU-Passive-SFP-H10GB-CU2M/dp/B00U8BL09Q/ref=pd_bxgy_23_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0PMSZXARCYG4METZ683Q
  9. Woah that seems super cheap for what it can do. Do they support link aggregation though? I plan to aggregate my old managed switch in another room with 4 x 1GB RJ45 cables. Also, do this mean I just need to purchase 2 10GB SFP+ cards and cables and my servers will be on 10GBe each already? Thanks so much for the help!
  10. Don't really have a set budget but the cheaper the better. The 10gbE ports can be SFP+ but I guess I prefer RJ45 since our whole office is using CAT6E already. Noob question - does SFP+ work the same with RJ45? The 10GBe ports will be plugged onto file servers. I will need to purchase a 10GBe card for each server as well. I have no experience on using SFP. The switch is right above our server so distance-wise, i guess it's fine?
  11. Hi everyone! I'm looking for a switch that has at least 2 10GBe ports and 16 gigabit ports. I will be using the 2 10GBe ports for my file servers and the Gigabit Ports for my workstations. My current setup right now is 6 x 1GBe ports in link aggregation which works since usually only a max of 6 people edit from the server itself but we will be adding more workstations thus the need for an upgrade for our switch! Suggestions please! Thanks LTT Community!
  12. Hi guys thanks for all the suggestions! I went with 4 x 4TB WD Red Drives in RAID 10. I'm getting decent speed - 220mb/s Read and 216mb/s Writes via eSATA (SATA II 3.0gbps) Hope these drives last! They'll be put to the test in our everyday post production work!
  13. Hi All! I'm currently deciding on which type WD RED Hard Drive to purchase for our production server. I'm torn between the WD RED 4TB or WD RED PRO 4TB. These drives will be housed on a 4 Bay Raid Box (http://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-HFR2-SU3S2-PRORAID-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B003YFHEAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456221719&sr=8-1&keywords=mediasonic+pro+raid) in RAID 10. My main concern is - is the Red Pro worth it for the extra price? The problem with the raidbox I bought is that it's only running on SATA II 3.0GBps via esata. Will the 7200rpm speed of the WD Red Pro worth it? These RAID Boxes will be connected via eSATA in my file server. This is basically what's going to happen: A: 4 x 4TB WD RED on RAID 10 (8TB equivalent) B : 4 x 4TB WD RED on RAID 10 (8TB equivalent) C : JBOD Box - 4 x 8TB Seagate Archive (files from the A and B RAID BOX will have a backup here every 5 mins using a software called Bvckup). *I'm still torn if I should use Seagate Archive Drives or just build a 4 x 6TB WD RED on RAID 5 for my backup. This will also be more expensive. :-/ Why RAID 10? - because multiple workstations will be accessing files from these RAID 10 boxes. So should I go for the WD Red or WD Red Pro? Hope you guys can help!
  14. Hi Leadeater! Thanks for your reply! I'm currently using Static Teaming, Address Hash on my Windows Server. I'm trying to look for the Switch Dependent / Dynamic option but all I see are the following: Option 1: Teaming Mode: Static Teaming Load Balancing Mode: Address Hash or Hyper V Port Option 2: Teaming Mode: Switch Independent Load Balancing Mode: Address Hash or Hyper V Port Option 3: Teaming Mode: LACP Load Balancing Mode: Address Hash or Hyper V Port I believe my Switch Supports link aggregation: http://www.netgear.com/business/products/switches/unmanaged-plus/JGS524Ev2.aspx What setting should I use? I've also made a LAG group already for Link Aggregation.
  15. By the way here's our production company's server setup: ASRock Intel Avoton C2750 2.4GHz/DDR3/SATA3/V&2GbE/Mini-ITX Motherboard and CPU Combo C2750D4I (has 12 Sata Ports!) Intel 4 x 1GB NIC 1 x Sandisk 120GB SSD - for System/OS 4 x WD Red 4TB (Hot-swap bay) - for files 4 x WD Red 4TB (via an eSATA Enclosure on just 1 SATA port @ JBOD Mode) - duplicate of files 3 x WD Green 3TB (old files, weapons, cloud sync - dropbox/onedrive/google drive etc.) 2 x WD RE 1TB as scratch disk or media cache The files backup to the esata enclosure via a program called Bvckup. I did not use raid because once the server is down/fails, I can easily just pull out the 4 bay enclosure, plug it in a PC via USB3/esata and go back to work!
