  1. Yes, AMD CPUs usually excel in code compiled independently, programmers usually use the intel compilers which cheat AMD processors out of performance. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/35412-intel-sneaky-tricks-against-amd-cpus-surface/ In any case I have no intention of hijacking this thread so if you wish to continue this discussion PM me instead.
  2. Here : http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_fx_8350_8320_6300_processor_4300_performance_review,8.html
  3. Not faster period, faster for integer calculations which we can use for hit detection among other things.
  4. It's not really surprising, farcry 3 is optimized for AMD CPUs, and the Piledriver cores in the FX 6300 are faster than the Sandy Bridge cores in the 3930K for integer calculations.
  5. It would be 6% faster, but you'd pay approximately 25% more.
  6. You have no upgrade path with the 4670K, the z87 socket is dead. With the 8320 you have at least one more series of processors if not more that will be socket compatible, this is official from AMD. http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2208525/amd-sticks-with-socket-am3-for-steamroller
  7. He did not, all the AMD overclocking was done via CCC which doesn't include over-volting, Lius increased the clock speeds & the power limit, the power limit is in no way associated with over-volting, it only prevents throttling once the GPU exceeds its designed TDP. The only over-volted card is the 660 Ti, Linus uses the GPU Tweak tool from EVGA to overclock all the Nvidia cards GPU Tweak does have a voltage control slider, however it's either locked or extremely limited on the 600 & 700 series cards, only the 660 Ti from MSI had a generous overhead because it's the power edition which MSI unlocked the voltages on.
  8. You can't really go wrong with an FX 8350, it has eight cores & uses the same AMD instruction sets as the eight core Jaguar CPU in the PS4 & XBOX One. Game development always starts with the consoles and trickles down to the PC, so the developers will optimize for the AMD eight cores. This gives the chip a "massive" boost in performance according to Matt Higby from Sony Online Entertainment.
  9. The 7950 is the performance for the dollar but if you can stretch to a 7970 it is well worth it.
  10. The 7990 falls exactly into your budget, @ $660 it's almost twice as powerful as the GTX Titan which costs $1000. http://www.amazon.com/XFX-FX-799A-XNF9-384-bit-Express-CrossFireX/dp/B00CLCNM32/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1378188059&sr=8-2&keywords=7990
  11. Linus does NOT over-volt the tested cards, he overclocks on the stock voltage, had he actually started over-volting you'd see the AMD cards gaining an even larger performance advantage over the Nvidia cards. That's because you can't even over-volt 600 & 700 series Nvidia cards, Nvidia locked the voltage via their green light program to reduce RMAs. This is well known & that's one of the reasons why the 600 & 700 series can barely overclock. http://techreport.com/news/23678/nvidia-program-ties-gpu-warranty-support-to-voltage-limits When MSI unlocked voltage on the power edition they got a slap on the wrist from Nvidia and they were forced to remove this overclocking feature.
