3DDude reacted to AshleyAshes in BIOS update for 7th gen
Looking at the specs, your motherboard does to support any features akin to Asus 'USB Bios Flashback'. So your computer must be able to POST to upgrade the BIOS so that it can POST on your CPU.  It's a Catch-22 situation.  Your board will need a 6th gen CPU temporarily installed to update the BIOS so that it can run a 7th gen CPU.

Contact Gigabyte, they may let you 'trade' the board for one with a newer BIOS flashed on.  It's also possible that a computer store will do it for you.  As an example, I bought a Haswell mobo with a Broadwell CPU at NCIX, while the board SHOULD have been new enough to have the necessary BIOS update from the factory, the staff at NCIX said that if it didn't, I could bring it back and their techs wold flash a newer BIOS on for me. ...Though the BIOS from the factory was sufficient for Broadwell.

There are motherboards that can do what you want but you don't have one.  My Asus X79 board could only run Sandy Bridge-E but I bought an Ivy Bridge-E CPU.  Asus 'USB BIOS Flashback' can flash the BIOS without even a CPU or RAM physically installed into the board.  Part of the reason I picked that board, I knew I'd need the feature.

Keep it. Clean it and store it. You'll need it for troubleshooting stuff or as a spare for when you need to RMA your current card. It'll be worth it's weight in gold on the day your 380 starts acting up.

Also keep in mind, that if the US is granted this right to open up any encrypted phone, then why not also the UK or Russia? Or Iran? Or China. I don't trust the US with that info but I want those other countries to have access even less. I don't like Apple but I fully support them in this case

3DDude reacted to ALwin in Y700 or Macbook Pro?
I only recommend a non MacBook because of the requirements for gaming.  For productivity I prefer MacBook Pros, unless there is a need for Windows specific software.  But then again one could always run Windows via Bootcamp or as a VM inside a MacBook.

I have yet to see any Windows laptop in the same price range as a MacBook Pro when it comes to buying a portable workstation for my needs.  The Windows workstations I'd ever consider buying again (mind you I worked with Windows based machines for nearly 20 years before making the switch to OSX) are the HP Elitebooks or Dell Precision laptop workstations with Quadro GPUs that cost more than a MacBook Pro.

I find the trackpad on a Mac to be much much better than any available on a non Mac.  OSX runs better than any experience I had with Windows (ranging from 3.1, 95, 98 all the way to Win 10 now).  Software updates, installation, removal does not give me headaches in OSX.

    Yes will probably work fine.
Please not that if you buy e.g. 2400MHz ram, it's always backwards compatible with lower speeds.
If your motherboard settings / CPU settings are set for 1600MHz thats fine, it will just run at 1600MHz speeds.

Like someone said, QVL is outdated, most dimms work unless you buy a really rare brand..
Corsair is definitly a proper brand, and should work.

The G3 from LG is the first phone I've used with a 2560x1440 display. That's a lotta pixels! Not to mention the rest of the top-of-the-range specs!

Alright, now onto the good stuff. LG is giving us TWENTY FIVE G3's to give away! All you need to do to qualify is post your favourite thing about the G3 from the review above in this thread and you can be selected at random to win one of these phones!

Please note that they are retail units (in the video I said pre-production, but this has since been changed) and they are Korean unlocked global units, so you will need to verify if they will work correctly on your carrier! To my knowledge they will work on AT&T or T-Mobile, but I got no data - only get voice and SMS on my carrier (Bell) so YMMV.

Either way you can still enter to win one, and you an always use it as a portable gaming device or whatever... I mean, it's a G3 man! The wifi will work! Best of luck to everyone!

    One entry per household.
