  1. Well, it turns out to be the battery. I just opened the back cover and found the 52Wh battery expanding. And it seems to be a pretty common issue of this model. The CPU temp is around 50 to 60C which is acceptable for this model.
  2. My HP Omen 15 laptop is getting weird these days for a much higher battery discharge rate. Usually I could use it for 3 hours of note taking but now it only lasts for about an hour or less. And I'm trying to troubleshoot to see whether it's a recent Windows 10 bug or I should get a new battery. I'm relying on the battery much more often these months and usually just drain it to the critical level after a full recharge. I think it is damaging the battery, but did not expect something like this. And in class I typically run a browser for PDF slides and OneNote for note taking. Besides them, nothing else. The power saving mode is always on and I even set the brightness to 0%. But it didn't help much. Once the battery dropped straight from 20% to 0%, which is a number that I've never seen (critical is 7% and I was surprised that it didn't black-screen immediately at 0%), making me believe in the likelihood of a Windows 10 bug. AIDA64 looks like this: The discharging rate indicates 3 hours of lifetime, but it drops by 1% just every minute. However the wear level is somehow 0% so I'm not sure if the battery is also having problems. Any suggestions? System specs: HP Omen 15-dc0007tx CPU: i5 8300H RAM: 24GB (8+16) @ 2400MHz SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 256GB HDD: Seagate 1TB GPU: GTX 1050Ti 4G BIOS version F.14 Rev.A (currently latest) Firmware version 04 Rev.A (currently latest) OS: Windows 10 1909
  3. This is what I normally do but sometimes just no response.
  4. I have an HP gaming laptop for daily use and a Samsung monitor which I connect with it via HDMI. Sometimes I leave my laptop locked Win+L and go jogging, but when I return, it just dies (black screen) and the fan keeps spinning (I tried to re-plug my mouse and even the monitor but nothing happened, so I'm pretty sure it's died and I have to force a restart). However I barely encounter this problem when I only use the laptop's own display. In system settings the external display is numbered monitor 2 and I often choose only to output to it. In this case it is main. Any explanations on why it dies this way? Is it more likely to die when trying to sleep or wake up?
  5. No I don't think I will fall in love with mini. It's too small and just a slightly larger phone for me. If my final decision is iPad I will only choose between iPad and iPad Air. And you're probably right on the weight problem. I tried to bring my gaming laptop to class and it worked for me in terms of note taking, but it's freaking heavy and I still have to figure out a place for my mouse. But I think Windows may provide a better flexibility although iPadOS may have more powerful tools for specific tasks. Just asking, is it ever possible to find a not-too-cheap Windows tablet with about the same size as iPad Air?
  6. Well if I decide to buy an iPad I would definitely buy the latest model. I've read some comparison. The pro is too expensive and I'm sure those pro owners can't be poor. The iPad Air seems to be the best choice among all, but I'm not sure if all those upgrades from the budget iPad are gonna make any difference in my daily use, since I don't think I will heavily load the pad with that typing and sketching jobs. But I want my device to run smooth for quite a long time (at least until graduation).
  7. Guys, I'm planning to buy myself a tablet in winter vacation so as not to be the last tablet owner in class. I'm hoping my new device will boost my study and help make some efficient notes as I can see my GPA dropping. So far I've limited my choices to iPad or Windows tablet, and I want to know some pros and cons of the two OSes in my case. I've seen most of my classmates using iPad Airs and keep their hands busy with Apple Pencils, but I wonder if a Windows tablet will do me any good. As mentioned, I will mainly use my tablet to make notes, and also some document editing, perhaps some light programming (not sure). Also I think it will be a nice tool for watching videos on bed. I won't use it for gaming other than rhythm games if any. (if you guys have any good usage of tablet plz let me know.) As for hardware, I'm planning to go with a large storage (hopefully at least 256GB) and a fast processor. A pen and an external keyboard are needed. Besides these I have no idea. I'm familiar with PC components but a newbie in tablets. My initial budget would be around 600 to 800 (in US dollars). Also I will use one or two clouds to sync my files (such as OneDrive) between devices, and I need to know the convenience of iOS and Windows about it. Thanks for your time!
  8. I'm on Android and there's only an auto connect button(which is always on), not auto login. And I've confirmed that it's a system bug that the login page does not always open. Honestly I don't know which vendor it is using, but the university's network center manages it all and we just connect to it. I think it's more like a phone issue since it knows a login is needed. And when I enter my password, it just says "connected" and everything is good to go. It's hard to believe that this is another system bug, so I think there must be something behind it.
  9. I have a problem. My university provides a Wi-Fi system in the living area and requires a student ID to log in (on a redirected page), which is fine. Every time I return to my room my phone (with Wi-Fi on) autoconnects it but the page doesn't prompt, and I need to manually call it in Wi-Fi settings (which is still fine). But before I log in, the phone seems to consider that I've been Wi-Fi connected to the Internet already (and switches to Wi-Fi mode), resulting in timeout everywhere (because the Wi-Fi is yet ready). Even though my mobile data is always on, all my applications just seem to ignore it, and no messages can be sent. I don't know why it is hungry for Wi-Fi so much. Sometimes I forget to log in before starting a game, and when I am about to make a full combo, the connect just happens in the way and everything switches to Wi-Fi and all my efforts go in vain. However, my phone seems to know this - it says "requires login/authorization", but still nothing flows through the mobile data. What I really wonder is why my phone loses Internet access as long as I connect to a Wi-Fi which requires an account to log in, no matter if mobile data is available. What's the mechanism behind this?
  10. I'm not sure if my RAM slot will be affected by my heatsink, so does channel problem still matter a lot in DDR4 generation?
  11. That should be fine since I have 1060 and AsRock Z170 in my list I've never overclocked a CPU yet, just wanna try it; or I would go with a Xeon 1231v5 which is almost the same price as a 6600k here. BTW, single channel or dual channel?
  12. Hello everyone, I'm a top student in the key middle school of my city, but yeah, I just want to build a new rig that's perfect for my use. I use my computer much frequently than any other guys, though that could always be the main reason for any of my failure. So I want to do more with a more powerful rig, just like running two browsers for different uses, skype, steam, and maybe word and excel at the same time (seldom with a movie maker), I plan to go with a 6600k and overclock it, but I just notice that there're noticeable differences in overclocking from CPU to CPU, so will this chip work well for me? That would be too expensive if I buy a 6700k. (Sorry for my poor English, I'm a Chinese. XD) BTW, I'm a gamer...
