The RX 570 is for 1080p medium/high, which is definitely well served by 4GB of Vram. All these people claiming things like "4GB of Vram isn't enough" and "quad cores are obsolete" and "1TB SSDs are the only SSDs worth it" aren't familiar with using low end PCs.

    Hello all.

After much conversing and intelligence gathering, I have finally built my first every PC - my ticket to the master race. I went an ITX build because I want to take it to LAN parties, even though many people have voiced their opinion that master race newborns should not dabble with ITXs.

    Anyhow, here are the parts:

    CPU: Ryzen R5 1600
Graphics card: ASUS DUAL GTX 1070 O8G
    RAM: 2x8GB Corsiar Vengeance 3200MHz
Storage: 250GB SanDisk Ultra II SSD
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM HDD
    MOBO: Asrock Fata1ity Gaming/ITX AB350
    PSU: Corsair SF450
    Case: Silverstone SG13
    CPU cooler: Noctua - NH-L9x65
Front intake fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM
Exhaust fan: Fractal design R3 50mm
    Monitor: LG23MP68VQ
    Keyboard: TurtleBeach Impact 600
    Misc:
SFX to ATX power supply adaptor bracket PP08
    ASUS SDRW 08D2S-U LITE
    Tights, 20 Denier
Corsair CP-8920190 Sleeved SATA Cable, Red/Black

    TAAADDAAA~~~

You have no idea how excited and happy I was

Of note: Asrock have 'fixed' their VRM heatsink-thermal pad issue:

White GPU, Red/Black mobo, Poo-y CPU cooler... Yea, the colour scheme is all wrong and miss matched. But who cares as long as I like it!

    It's alive!!!

Now time to prep the case:

I do like Asrock's IO shield:

At this point, I thought cable management will be easy. I mean, there is so much room. What's all the fuss about?

Errr getting a bit cosy now...
Note: I had to get a different Corsair's SATA power cable as the one that came with the PSU aren't flat enough. I do like the red and black, and also the fact that its individually sleeved though.

ARGHHH cables everywhere! And why do they have to be so stiff??

This is the best I can manage. Not bad for a first time builder...?

And here is the finished product!

What's the abomination I hear you ask?
    Well.

I'd of made it a little thicker. That looks roughly like a quick shot. The little separate splotch next to the main bit is also a definite no-no anyway. Could trap air pockets between them.

In my opinion, perhaps about 1/2 that much more.  I usually aim for the size of a pea, or a cooked grain of rice.

I'd say that's a little too little, just. Anyway, I'm so used to applying TIM for X99 CPUs, I probably put too much onto my 1700 so I'm probably not the best person to be recommending how much TIM you should be putting onto your CPU

Yea, that's better. Just make sure to gently twist the heatsink back and forth a few times when you set it on to spread the grease out evenly without lifting it back up to prevent air pockets.

I think aesthetics are a big influence on a build, but I always keep performance a first. I would check what you plan to run on it and look up benchmarks to see if the GPU that looks good will work, if it doesn't, go for the better performer. If you are on a tight budget, get the ugly ones that do better and then don't get glass sides.

jeffery7466 reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Aesthetics vs functionality
Aesthetics sometimes can harm the performance of a part. Like for example, here's a heat sink from a gaming motherboard:

Compared to a heat sink from a server motherboard

The problem with the gaming heat sink is it goes for looks over performance. The shroud over the heat sink restricts airflow that can go into it, practically necessitating the need for a downward fan on the CPU heat sink if it wants any real amount of airflow through it. Whereas the server heat sink is open, and is less restrictive of how air can go around it.

That's just one example. While looks are nice, if it looks like it can hamper performance, that hardware should be dropped.

jeffery7466 reacted to jaysangwan32 in Aesthetics vs functionality
In general, I would personally weigh whether the aesthetics matter more to me than performance in one specific instance. For example, I'm opting to got for a 240 rad over a 280 because a 280 doesn't fit in a case I like.

In your situation, I would go with the ASUS. Both cards are 1070s from reputable companies. Both cards will have nearly identical performance with differences being not even 1 fps. EVGA might have better cooling, but as long as you have enough airflow in your case it should be fine.

Look at benchmarks though. If the EVGA cards is blowing the ASUS out of the water (which I doubt), go for it. If anything less, it's not worth buying a card you don't like the looks of, specially if you're gonna be building with a glass/acrylic side panel.
