Your innate fear, is what makes our nation close to Nazi Germany. You've no reason to fear someone carrying a weapon on a sling, or in its holster. You react based solely on the sight of a weapon, why? He isn't pointing it at anyone? He's carrying it the exact same way anyone walking into a gun store would carry it.
 
You've been trained, by media, to fear anyone carrying a weapon, that's not in some kind of uniform. Whether or not they're carrying it in a threatening fashion.
 
Carrying a weapon on a sling (over the shoulder) is about as non threatening as someone can get while carrying a rifle. It's the same thing as someone wearing a pistol in a holster. The same as the cops you all trust so very much, despite them killing more people in a year than legally owned assaults rifles do in the hands of civilians.
 
I see someone carrying an AR-15 in public, over their shoulder, I wouldn't hesitate to go up and talk to them. I see someone carrying it in their hands (which is brandishing, i.e. carrying it in a manner that they are ready to shoot), I'm ducking for cover and reaching for my .45 in my holster.
 
Grow up, learn the law, and learn not to be terrified of everything as the media and government would have you be.That's the point he's making, the only people acting ridiculously here, are the people reacting solely out of fear, fear of nothing.

If you must know the differences in the U.S. though:
 
Democrats: They are the "new liberal definition" that is what one typically thinks of when you think of "liberal" (pro-social programs) For "larger government" that provides much more through higher taxes and social programs. Want more laws to keep people in control (sometimes to the extreme).
Believe in what we consider more "liberal" ideas such as believing gay marriage should be legalized, and many are for marijuana legalization. Pro-abortion on the grounds it's a woman's body. Tend to take anti-gun to insane levels.
Keep in mind Democrats include some people who are pro-gun (usually still for restrictive gun laws) or against marijuana legalization, and conservatives who feel more strongly about legalizing gay marriage or some social programs.
 
Republicans: They are the "(old?) liberal definition" that the French revolutionists were for (pro-individual-freedom, against large powerful government). For "smaller government" (like the French revolutionists and American revolutionists) that "meddle less" in people's affairs with lower taxes and "kept in check" by the people. Want less laws to promote individual freedom.
Believe in more traditional customs, and are what we consider conservative. Many (most?) aren't for gay marriage (sometimes to the extreme *ahem* Westboro Baptist Church) and even less for marijuana legalization. Anti-abortion on the grounds it's killing a human. Pro-gun (back to individual freedom).
Keep in mind republicans include many people who are pro-gay marriage.

EDIT: Keep in mind both sides get lobbied to all hell, and don't quite ever represent what the people who elected them want.

Fact: both republican and democratic parties are the same thing. Behind them, they have the same corporate interests influencing their policies.
Their "differences" are only an illusion meant to blind you from the truth.
