  1. Are the PC Partpicker lists supposed to be the exact same core components? On the NZXT comparison, the PC Partpicker list has an RTX 3070 Ti 8GB while the NZXT system has an RTX 4060 Ti
  2. There are so many misunderstandings about how capital markets work within this thread and even from Linus himself on the latest WAN show. First thing, publicly announcing that you're committing capital to buying a stock based with the dollar amount being based partly on viewer donations can be considered price manipulation by the SEC or local regulatory agencies. Second, his point on LTT generating value by creating videos whereas funds investing in companies does not generate value is an inherently wrong statement. I'd love to have a discussion on how the allocation of capital by institutional investors (eg. private equity funds, hedge funds, investment banks, retirement system pensions, etc.) actually contributes to the development of new companies and ideas which ultimately generates value. Third, his assumption that short-sellers are the "bad guys" is the same view that major Wall Street players hold. Most of Wall Street hate short-sellers because short-sellers provide a contrarian view to otherwise unsustainable/fraudulent business models (see: WeWork, Enron, CDO shorts in 2008). By calling short-sellers the "enemy" of the people, you are taking the same position as the large incumbent players who want to pump up stock prices without any opposing views. This allows them to decide when to cash out and/or continue to drive up prices without actually creating value. Linus, I know you'll probably never see this, but I'd be happy to sit down with you to have a discussion on capital markets and the implications of the recent GameStop phenomenon. 3. ---------------------------------------------- Summary DBrand's website has preorder links for the Grip Case which fits the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Plus, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The following image is from this link: https://dbrand.com/shop/grip#grip-devices. This seems to confirm the rumors of a 4-phone lineup and the camera modules that will be on each phone. Additionally, there is a preorder ship date of October 2020 which suggests a potential release date. Quotes My thoughts This seems pretty plausible as DBrand wouldn't make phone cases unless they have final samples for the planned launch. The preorder ship date for October also gives some credibility to the rumors of an announcement event and subsequent release sometime in October. To me, it doesn't make a ton of sense for Apple to release a phone super late into the holiday cycle (like in November) as there's less time to generate hype and marketing around the new phones to turn into sales. 4. But it seems as though their batteries are degrading faster than most other phone manufacturers? After having a OnePlus 3T for a year, my battery life and performance haven't changed significantly and especially not to the point of spontaneous shutdowns. Maybe is Apple pushing their components to the limit for the first year which accelerates battery degradation and then throttling once no one cares about the performance numbers anymore? And there's no way a company that spends so much on R&D doesn't know the capabilities of their batteries with the components in the device. They could easily prevent this issue by running the CPU at a frequency that doesn't cause your battery to fry to extend the longevity of the device.
  5. Google is shutting down the Chrome Apps section of their web store and will remove functionality of previously installed apps in Q1 2018. Chrome Extensions are staying for now. Source: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/12/google-shuts-down-the-apps-section-of-the-chrome-web-store/
  6. I've tried aligning the monitors in display settings but it still doesn't feel natural moving over since there's dead space where it doesn't register. I was thinking more along the lines of a third-party software solution or some obscure setting in Windows 10 if it exists?
  7. Hey guys, So I have an ASUS MG248Q (24", 1080p, 144Hz) monitor and a Samsung UE510 (28", 4K) monitor and noticed that there's a misalignment between the two when I try to move my mouse over? For example, the top quarter of the 4K monitor doesn't seem to connect with the other monitor and I need to move it down before it crosses. Is there a way to fix this software to adjust the scaling issue? I'd prefer not to downgrade the resolution on the 4K monitor if possible. Thanks in advance!
  8. Does anyone know what song they're using in the background at the beginning? (Right after the intro cinematic of the case)
  9. So I just finished building my gaming rig and really want to get a racing game but don't know if I should wait for Forza 7 or not. Thoughts? Running an i7-7700k and a GTX 1070.
  10. So with the global NAND flash shortage, I noticed that M.2 SSDs are getting pretty pricey. I have all the parts for my rig already but wanted an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD for a boot drive and some application storage. Anyone have any recommendations on decently priced drives around 120-250GB? For reference, part list is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GwmGTH
  11. So I've been gaming on a laptop for the last few years and scrapped together a chunk of money to build my own gaming rig. Looking to run triple A games around 60fps at high (not ultra) settings on a 1440p monitor or medium settings at 144Hz (haven't decided yet) as well as heavy multitasking use. Live in the US with access to a Microcenter for a CPU and budget is currently $1000 but willing to go higher if worth the upgrade. I already own a mechanical keyboard and mouse so only parts for the actual tower is going into the budget (I'm budgeting the monitors separately). Currently looking at getting an i7 and a GTX 1070 and prefer a tempered glass panel or the CM Storm Stryker on sale. Any help would be appreciated. 12. Hey guys, does anyone know of any software that can scan drives and detect files/programs that are rarely used, then uninstall them?
  13. Anyone know what song is in the background at 10:35?
  14. So my external USB 3.0 WD My Passport 1TB HDD started making a buzzing sound starting this morning, and it's not being detected in File Explorer or WD Drive Utilities. How likely is it that the drive died and is there a way to still obtain SMART data on the drive? I bought the drive in August 2013 and don't think I've physically damaged it.
  15. At your budget range, have you taken a look at Sager laptops? They actually have even better specs than the two you listed, includes G-Sync, and allow you to customize specific features.
  16. So if I were to buy a new CPU in the near future, would the "tock" cycle CPUs offer significant performance improvements for the extra price tag compared to a slightly older CPU but with the same lithography?
  17. So microarchitecture improvements are essentially optimizing the physical capabilities of the chip before physically making the transistors closer together for higher speeds? And by doing that, they can essentially sell slightly faster processors as they try to shrink the physical dimensions of the chip? And so why would they move away from that cycle?
  18. So I've been hearing this term tick-tock cycle for production of Intel CPUs for a while now and never quite understood what it meant. Then today, Intel announced that they were ditching that system and moving on to a 3-phase development cycle. Can someone explain the tick-tock system and the benefits of moving away from it?
  19. Hey guys, I'm looking to build my first gaming PC and I already have a parts list put together. I'm planning to build this around May or June so prices may change a bit but I was wondering if there's anything I should change to improve performance around the same budget? Budget max is around $1100-1200 USD and hoping to run current gen games at high settings, 60fps with a single 1080p monitor. Thanks. 20. It posted with just CPU and RAM though and the chip is an LGA-1150 chip
  21. Hey guys, So I just bought all my parts for a new PC build and have got everything working except the GPU. The motherboard isn't booting up when I have my GPU plugged in but everything else (CPU, RAM, HDD and SSD) all work fine when I boot. The BOOT DEVICE LED on the mobo is staying red regardless and the computer doesn't even show the BIOS when the GPU is plugged in. Any suggestions? 22. Its not an ROG laptop but it's running on my desk at 27 degrees C ambient. Even though its normal, wouldn't these temps affect the longevity of the CPU and GPU?
  23. So my Asus laptop runs at around 40 degrees C at idle and kicks up to 85-90 C while running GTA 5. Should I be worried and is there a solution or should I just keep doing what I do? Laptop is currently running an Intel i7-4710HQ and a GeForce 840M.
