Goat got a reaction from Pidgey in goal of overclocking?
While the goal is achieve the highest frequency possible, there are factors that prevent you from running the CPU at your desired speed, forcing you to reduce the overclock:

If you run at a high frequency without enough voltage to make the chip stable, you will get BSOD. That is why voltage is increased to keep the overclock stable, at the cost of temperatures. If temps are considered high for the current voltage that you are running ( 80c and above ), reduce the voltage to keep temps in check and dial down over overclock a bit to keep things stable. Another option would be to get a better cooler.

As one of the main killers of PC components is heat, I would refrain from constantly running the CPU at 80c or above. Running at 80c is not considered as overheating ( yet ), but it is considered hot.

Another factor that is out of your control is the "silicon lottery". Its basically a term to describe how "good" a chip is at overclocking, as not all chips, even ones of the same model, are created equally due to the manufacturing process. Imagine two CPUs of the exact same model running the same cooler etc. CPU A can overclock up to 4.8ghz while CPU B can only overclock up to 4.5ghz, where it will crash if you try to push it further. This is an example of the silicon lottery in action, where even though you have two CPUs of the same model, one cannot overclock as well as the other due to manufacturing. If by chance you get a "CPU A" that can overclock well, then you have "won" the silicon lottery. Good for you. But, if you happen to get a "CPU B" that can't overclock well, then you simply won't be able to achieve the same overclocks that other people are getting with the same chip without crashing.

So with these factors in mind, you will want to overclock your CPU as far as it can go while keeping things as cool and stable as possible. You can use other people's overclocks as reference, but note that yours will either be higher or lower than theirs due to the silicon lottery.

Displayport. Unlike HDMI, it has a locking connector that prevents the cable from disconnecting from whatever you plug it into in case you pull on it or something. Displayport can also support higher refresh rates than HDMI.

Goat got a reaction from George. in Logitech G502 mouse feet question
The mouse feet on my G502 is easy to scratch, but it does not wear off. I have been using this mouse for a year now and there are not problems with the mouse feet or anything else.

Goat reacted to Pineapple Wolf in Why so much HATE on Razer Products
Not all products they make are bad, for example some of the mice are pretty good, and at the time of the Deathadder coming out it was one of the best on the market. However many other manufactures have stepped up their game like logitech, zowie to name a few so razer has been left behind.

Their keyboards aren't recommended here because there are usually a number of better options at every price point.

    Goat got a reaction from elz33 in i7 6700k or i5 6600k
The i5 is for gaming and the i7 is for video editing. In your case, go with the i5. Its not as good as the i7 when it comes to editing due to the i7 having hyper threading technology, but has about equal performance as the i7 when it comes to gaming, as most games only require 4 threads. Don't worry about editing, as the i5 can still handle some editing and you can get better performance if you overclock it.

Games are more GPU intensive rather than CPU intensive. If you have an i7 but run the game using integrated graphics or a graphics card that is not powerful enough to run games, you will get low fps, making the game laggy and unplayable as the card is not powerful enough.

I recommend to wait a little longer for the RX 480 to release, which is an affordable gaming GPU.

Goat got a reaction from Frame Drops in Is this good?
If you are overclocking, it is good to get a psu that has enough wattage to pump more volts to the cpu and will be able to handle that extra load, but you won't see a difference in overclocking between a 650w and 1000w psu, as you won't be pushing that much power into the cpu anyway due to increased temps and over-volting risks.

You will be good with a 650w psu. 750w and anything above are meant for running multiple gpus and what not.

Decent for a budget build, maybe just look at upgrading the cpu when you can next maybe to an i5 6500

Goat got a reaction from bernat17 in Advice on gpu choice
It depends on how good the airflow in the case is.

Both cases have intake vents for the gpu to give it fresh air, but other than air vents for the gpu and cpu to intake fresh air, there are no places for mounting system fans to give fresh air and get the heat out of the pc.

Taking that into consideration, having a gpu with an open cooler will keep the gpu cooler, but it will kick heat out to the other parts of the pc. That is okay if there is adequate airflow to keep the rest of the system cool, but since both cases don't have system fans for good airflow, it will be best to get a gpu with a blower style cooler. The gpu will run hotter, but the rest of the system will run cooler.

Having a blower style cooler for the gpu is recommended, but the decision is ultimately up to you. If you want your gpu to run cooler and don't mind the rest of the system running hotter, the get a gpu with an open cooler.

Headset reviews are pointless since we cant hear them, case reviews are pointless since most people either like or hate the aesthetics, and most dont care about the rest

like really there isnt much to make videos on, they cant make new graphics card videos every day, that would get boring

really not sure what they could do better

Not always the wattage or the brand. A brand like Corsair makes great psus like the RM series and the AX series but also bad psus like the CX series.

If you want it sparking clean, disassemble the whole pc and clean the parts one by one. I recommend cleaning with an electronic duster. It costs more than air cans, but its more powerful and effective and does not run out of air, so its cheaper in the long run.

Like @Goat said, you're going to struggle running GTA V at high settings with a GTX 950; you will have to turn the settings down to maintain a stable 60 fps, unless you don't mind running at 30 fps (trust me, you'll hate it soon enough).

Either increase your budget, or be ready to manage your expectations about the capability of the GTX 950. It's a good card, but don't be disappointed that you can't run at high/ultra settings in the latest AAA titles.

Goat reacted to Matt100HP in witch video card better?
"Good quality" and "best FPS" aren't really what the GTX 950 is aiming at. You'll want something on the level of a 970/390 for 1080p 60fps at high settings on GTA V. Personally, I've got a 970, but if I was buying my system today, I'd swap that out for a 390 as I think it offers better value.

I'm not the best with crossfire settings, but why dont you use the Direct CU as your main, but use the reference to connect your display(s)

If not, just buy the necessary adapters. Switching the cooler would be extremely difficult. I think the DirectCU has a custom pcb, if it doesnt have the same connections as the reference cards. Just get the needed adapters, if you absolutely want to. Honestly switching the coolers technically would make such a little difference, it wouldnt be noticeable.

Oh, and please dont work on that carpet. Dont want to static shock one or both of those cards, that would suck
