Hey everyone! First of all I'd like to apologize for the long wait for the final pics for this build, I have been extremely busy recently and just haven't had the time to get around to it. So without further ado, may I present Project Contrast (A.K.A Creamsicle)!

I am glad to be finally done this build! There are only a couple things I would change about it, the first is improving the paint job (there are couple areas where it is imperfect) and secondly get a motherboard that matches the color scheme. Overall I am very happy with it considering it is my first ever water-cooled build! Thanks to everyone who supported the project and stuck with me!

With the arrival of the reservoirs & now the pumps I can workout the internal setup. over the last week iv added some internal walls & removable bases, installed the 2X reservoirs,  radiators & soon i will have the pumps in place.   When im happy with the layout it will then all be removed before painting/wrapping.   after that's completed it will then be time to move the desk inside so i can work on the tubing & wiring.   Oh, also went with position 2 for the front panel & edged the front of the desktop.         The next 3 photos show the cover thats now in place to hide the leg cutout.           Some of the base covers in place, & a better view of the leg cover         Cut a fan hole for the V1200 PSU, but not sure im having it in this position now?            The Phobya 450 reservoirs, used them on my 2013 build, decided to stick with them again         Using the provided brackets to fit them under the top shelf, will wrap or paint them at later date.     Covered them with some masking tape so as not to scratch them         A final pic for you, looks almost complete here, but still lots of work to be done             This log was 2 weeks behind hence the post spam, its now upto date

    Yes, I know, comic sans...

    Finally a PC owner/gamer lol

    The Goal:

After scrapyard wars was released I issued a sort of challenge to my self: build the best possible gaming rig (yes you read that right: GAMING) for $100 or less out of unwanted parts that people were throwing out.  Yes, it's crazy, I had no idea I'd get as far as I did, but luckily I live in a neighborhood where people were getting rid of pretty "decent" hardware.

    The Hardware:

Now for the exciting stuff (IMO at least)...  After picking up around 4+ old systems and some unwanted parts I had enough parts to assemble what I thought would be a decent system.  Parts are as follows:

CPU: Q8200 @ stock for now; I got this out of an upgraded core 2 duo HP system.

Motherboard(s) HP random 775 motherboard from the HP system I got.  Later I purchased an ASUS P5E deluxe on Ebay for $64.

RAM: 2x4gb DDR2; half OCZ "SLI Ready" and other half Samsung generic.  Got these from the upgraded HP and a Dell respectively.

Cooler/Fans: Xigmatek 1283 with a 140mm NOCTUA FAN! (awww yeah     )  Got the Xigmatek from a neighbor who didn't need it (all his stuff's 2011-v3 lol) and the Noctua fan from a neighbor who bought it for a system I built for him; the fan didn't fit however and he never got around to returning it, so he gave it to me    .

Storage: 320gb WD "Apple certified" (IDK) 5400rpm HDD.  Got this from an old ~2007 iMac.  Not much but it gets the job done.

GPU(s): Oh yes the exciting part...  First off I'm running "dual" (not SLI/crossfire) GPU's because no integrated graphics (as far as I know) on X48.  Is it really necessary?  No, but I wanted to take the load of driving an auxiliary monitor off my EVGA 750ti (yeah you heard that right; explanation in a second) and instead have my HD5450 drive it.  Also Ubuntu doesn't like outputting from my Geforce card for the setup process; IDK.  Anyway, I got the GTX 750ti for helping that neighbor build his PC.  A few weeks ago I upgraded his GPU to a 960 (pls staph 280 fans; 960 was on sale for 170 on super biiz and cheapest 280 was ~210) and he didn't need his 750ti anymore.  I told him he could just sell it but he said that instead I could have it as "payment" for building and servicing his PC's over the last year or so.  I got the HD 5450 from another old Dell BTW.

Case: This build sat running on an old mobo box for a good 2 weeks; eventually I tried putting it in my Cooler Master Centurion 5, but for whatever reason the standoffs didn't line up so I couldn't do that.  As of this last Saturday, my system resides in a NZXT S340, purchased new at Fry's for $69.99 (yes I know I just exceeded my budget but the case was cosmetic, so I'm not really counting it).

PSU: Got a Cooler Master 550w PSU from that upgraded HP I was talking about earlier.  Not 80+ or anything, but it's non-OEM and reliable.

Extras:  Lots of extra's lol...  For audio (P5E doesn't have onboard audio) I have an Asus Supreme FXII (came with P5E) and an old SoundBlaster Live from a Dell Dimension 4000 (only used as a gameport adapter for my retro joystick).  On top of that I have some crappy D-Link wireless g adapter ( ._. ) from an ancient (relatively) AMD HP system and sometime later this week a PCIe 1x to internal USB 3.0 header adapter so I can use the front panel USB 3.0 ports.

Initial Validation of Parts Used/Test bench:

Not a ton to say here: everything went smoothly with the exception of the HP mobo not liking new CPU fans.  Hi res (or not, silly iPod camera) pictures inbound:

Test bench running on the HP motherboard and a stock heatsink:

With the Xigmatek 1283 and the 750ti:

Running on the Asus P5E Deluxe:

    Build Process:

Again not much to say.  Installing the system in the S340 was a breeze. Too excited to take photos RIP

OS and driver installation/mini rant on windows 10 installer:

Definitely the most tedious part of the build process... First off I tried installing Ubuntu but is was being stupid about not being able to reach the server for "getting additional 32bit libraries" to run steam and was a real pain in the ass, so I switched to windows 10 technical preview. TL:DR installer sucks, setup sucks, and I'm an idiot for installing the 32bit version by accident and then wondering why windows said I only had 3gb ram...  Anyways, I finally got it running and all; decent performance in games I play.  More information on that below though.

    Results:

    Finished Interior:

Desktop (running Minecraft with ultra shaders):

The only game I really tested was Minecraft (modded of course).  Running over 1gb in texture packs along with ~30 mods and "Ultra" shaders I was getting a constant 40-60 FPS (very surprising considering how taxing ultra shaders are)  Currently I haven't bothered testing anything from my steam library (not too interested in trying to download 10gb+ files over wireless G)

    Future Plans:

This build was a lot of fun for sure.  If I'd stuck with no case and the HP mobo this would have been a $0 budget system, and even if I had gotten the used 750ti free I still could have hovered around the $100 budget point by buying a used 750ti or equivalent on Ebay.  I think it's safe to say "goal accomplished".  If I do anything to the system in the future it will just be adding lightning to the interior and potentially painting some components.

Hi! I'm new at this forum.

I'm going to show you my progress with my x99 build in a NZXT S340

I Painted some parts of my system with plasti dip red ( Some with red and a clear cout too ). As you can see I paint my x99 deluxe but I'm not having temperture problems.

My build was inpired by a video from Techsource at youtube called "Big red".

My build is not already completed cause I will replace the stock case fans, a led kit and other stuff.

Please let me know if I'm doing well or any suggestions.

    Specs:

    Update!

So first up I needed to block my GPUs of course! So much Nickel...

Time to take that stock cooler off...

    *Poof*

    So shiny

    I love pre-cut RAM pads...

    And there she is

    Time for the backplate...

    BAM

    All done

Then there were 3... pardon my photo here. These backplates are not easy to photograph

So sexy... missing the terminal because, you'll see.

    Love these plexi terminals

    So shiny

So... here's where it gets a little confusing. I leave May 26th, but I have to finish a *quick* version of this build for some marketing purposes. SO the following photos are featuring my Rampage III Black Edition because I need a board that has RAM and Motherboard blocks, and it's still TBD what I'll be watercooling on the Rampage V Extreme. NOTE: THE FINAL BUILD WILL HAVE THE RAMPAGE V EXTREME AND HARD TUBING

I'm not entirely sold on this combo yet... the tube on the right will be straightened. The clear tubing will have blood red coolant flowing through it. I may switch it so red fittings have the clear tubing/red fluid and black fittings have black tubing. Or just go back to one color set. What do YOU guys think?

Xehanort reacted to Glent in Project W2 - Dual Chamber, Rigid Tubing, Simple and Clean
    Introduction

Hey, it's been a while since I posted a build. Today I'm sharing a build I've assembled for my son. The emphasis is on looks rather than power, it's a mid range type of system for some light gaming. Perhaps in the future it'll be upgraded. Anyhow, if you’re familiar with any of my work, you'll know I’m a fan of dual chamber cases. I've bolted some together and created a few scratch builds in the past.

Like most of my past builds this one came about, during a random conversation with my son. He took pen to paper and provided me a rough image of what he would like. I'll be honest I was not keen with his preferred Color choices of red, white and black. I've used them myself in the past it's very difficult to balance them correctly.

The case I used was the  Cooltek W2, not a common case and depending on your region, I believe it's also distributed as "Jonsbo W2". The core of this build was to reuse, recycle and essentially make use of parts I had to hand. I actually had everything minus the CPU. As far as his mum is concerned, that's all I bought since hahaha

    Current progress shot

Case: Cooltek W2 (AKA Jonsbo W2)

    Motherboard: MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming

    CPU: Intel 20th Anniversary G3258

    GPU: MSI R9 270X

RAM: 2x 4GB Mushkin Blackline (Temp addition)

SSD: Kingston HyperX Savage SSD 240GB

    HDD: TBC

    PSU: Generic 500W/Fully Modular

Radiators: 240mm Slim (From Raijintek Triton)

    Fans: 3 x NoiseBlocker 120mm

Pump: XSPC D5 with EKWB Plexi Pump top

    Reservoir: Raijintek Triton

    Fittings: Primochill Rigid Ghost

Tubing: Primochill Rigid PETG tubing clear

    CPU Block: Raijintek Triton

GPU Block: Alphacool GPX 270 MSI 270X

    Lighting: Deepcool 2x RGB

    Other: E22 FG01 Fan grilles 1x120, 1x 240mm

    Cables: E22/Telios Self Sleeved

The first thing to do was make a cut, in the left side panel and mock up the parts, and then explore the watercooling loop route

In keeping with the theme to reuse and recycle any parts I had here, was the idea to tweak the Raijintek Triton, which is an AIO system that can be expanded. However what I wasn’t aware of, was the sealed fittings on both the radiator and the main block, they’ve used some sort of sealant and the only option was to apply some heat. They came out easy enough and with no issue on the radiator side, however the plexi block did not fair well and the threads where destroyed. I don’t have another to try again but I suspect with more care and less heat, it would be possible to remove them without any major damage to the threads.

The following images, are made up with placeholder parts, fittings, cabling and such. The theming does not take place until the later stages

After re-tapping the threads into the main block, I began to plot tubing route.

The IN and OUT on the Raijintek block lined up mm perfect will the GPU block below, but I must confess the tubing route caused me some concerns, and was a case of trial and error.

All was well for the first few fills and drains. To actually fill and drain the loop, I only used the main port on the block. I didn’t want to run a drain line or add any extra clutter inside. On the third run, the pump gave up and died.

I had some other parts to hand, pump, res, water block and such but I’d really become fond of the Raijintek block/res combo and opted to leave it as part of the build. A pump was now needed and rather than make use of the rear chamber, and add extra clutter I fitted it into the floor and adjusted the loop. Not an ideal workaround, but it works…

This will be my 5th time using rigid tubing and I have to say it doesn’t get much easier when working with double bends and tricky corners!

I really tried to push a black and white only theme to my son, but he was keen to keep some red in their and later on, I think you'll agree he made the right call.

I must have remade the tube from the GPU to rad about 10 times, but the double bend was a real challange

I’ve had the Alphacool GPX block for a little while now, and appreciate for some people it’s just not to their taste. Personally I like it but somewhere down the line it might have a visual tweak, on that note if you ever have an rounded head (on any product)  then grabs the wife’s nail glue, it  works great!

With the loop finalized, I set about replacing some of the more tired pieces such as the fittings as well as purchasing some sleeving, tools and grilles.

    http://techicize.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/20150515_134701.jpg/

As mentioned earlier balancing colours is tough, I felt like a bold red MSI on the case front would help to keep things in check.

Over the last few days I’ve been working on the sleeving and adding the lighting into the case. I’d say I’m nearly done pending a few possible changes here and there.

I’ve got to do some work on the backside of the case as we’re adding a window on that side too.  The cables combs are a fantastic addition, but the cables still need some adjusting

Incidentally I'd like to add some white or red, Kingston HyperX Savage ram but I don't have the funds just now.

This was my 1st go at a custom watercooled PC.
Have had on the All in One type coolers before.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Almost silent at idle with the fans running at 650 rpm.
Slight fan noise when playing say GTA V with temps for CPU at 52c & GPU at 49c
Fans are still less that 1000rpm. Could get cooler temps, but with more fan noise

    Welcome!
I thought I would share a project I have been working on for a few years! Some of you may have seen it on other forums or somewhere else but now I have started the work log here as well. It is a fully custom chassis built and designed by me.

I have been a long time watcher of LinusTechTips on youtube but I never realized that this forum was here. Because of that I never got around to make a work log here for the whole progress only the last month or so of the build. Anyway I hope you will enjoy it! (Updated the pictures to the final ones and added videos!)

    History behind the Project:
About 5 years ago I decided that I was going to water cool my computer. Back then I had a Antec P180, not exactly the perfect chassis for water cooling your components. I looked at a lot of different chassis but I was never really happy with any of them. So I started sketching on my own design. First they were really awful, but as time progressed I got better and better at drawing. Early drawings was in MS-paint. I then moved on to Google Sketchup and finally Autodesk Inventor. I have probably gone through about 30 different designs until I finally decided on this one. This was my first custom designed chassis and also my first ever water cooled computer! The basic goal was to design a very quiet high-performing system with a minimalistic and clean design.

Edit: Compiled all the Pictures and Videos in the first post.

Cheers man, hope you like the final update!

Welcome to the community!  I'm honored that this build helped you to make the plunge.

    MEGA UPDATE!

Well this is it folks.  It's been one hell of a journey with many ups and downs (some seriously low points), but I wouldn't trade it away lightly.  The amount of support this build has garnered from the community has been astounding, finally winning a Bit-Tech MotM being the icing on a rather rich chocolate cake indeed.  I'm amazed by simply how many have followed this thread too, a massive 315 at time of writing!

I'd like to thank everybody who's followed this build from the start, along with everybody who joined along the way.  Also a big thanks to my sponsors EKWB who provided almost all of the watercooling parts for the build, it certainly would have been a much slower affair without them.  I'd also like to thank the team over at Parvum Systems who managed to get a new block made so quickly, and of course a thanks to James (Phame) who made the original one that sadly now sits in my room as a grim reminder of the cost of carelessness.

    First up, the final update:

Tidied up all the fan wires, much neater only having one.

Felt that the radiator screws needed a bit of sprucing too.

And now for the main event!

The rig is all up and running safely.  I'd have grabbed a few pics of it pushing some pixels only every place I could use is a bit of a heap right now thanks to trying to frantically finish the build.  Going to be a bit of a cleanup job for sure.

Okay, just removed the 750 ti(reinstalled the HD 7770) and my OC causes the system to not post. Not sure what that's about, but whatever. I've tried a couple of things but it still won't OC. For now I'm too tired to deal with this crap, but I might have time to investigate this weirdness tomorrow(I suspect the RAM is the cause). If its the RAM, then I'll return it and get something special(actually, the foundation of Part 2). Hopefully I can get it to work with the 24GB and the 7770(then the 750 ti if this breaks things too), but for now, I need some sleep .
