  1. I,m from ireland, budget would be something in the affordable price range tbh.Like i say its really just for a bit of a nicer display and screen real estate.4k would be a a bit too pricey for me just now. Will the image on videos and movies suffer if I go 1440p over 1080p considering most online vids are currently 720 and 1080P.Also any idea in how the graphics card would handle 1440p?Cheers
  2. Hi there, This might be only my 2nd post on here (1st was 3 or more years ago) so bear with me.I am looking to buy a new monitor for my current set up.I am not a gamer whatsoever,so I wont be using this monitor for games of any type.My main use is for music production software,I use cubase.I have looked up plenty of info about the differences between a 1440p and 1080p display,so I have a vague idea but not 100% sure on certain things. What attracts me to the 1440p is the extra real estate on the screen. This would be very useful when using cubase. My only other use for it will be viewing movies, youtube and general browsing etc. What concerns me a little is, according to what i have researched,if a video image isn't 1440p and just 1080p or 720p, like a lot of movies or vids on youtube are, these are up scaled to work on a 1440p display. This actually makes them look a bit worse than if the display was 1080p for example. Is this the case or is this only relevant to games and video editing etc?My other concern is my graphics card. For my current use I really don't need anything remotely powerful. The only reason I even have one is because my cpu (i7 5820k) didnt come with onboard graphics. My card is an EVGA GeForce GT730.According to the specs its max digital is 4096x2160. Heres the specs list, https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=07db90d8-e448-4d74-9c9e-bfd0b111d295 Would this card have any issues with 1440p for my current needs or would an upgrade be needed?I would most likely go for a 1080p is that was the case.My current monitor is a really really old monitor from a very cheap PC from maybe 12 years ago.Its VGA and its resolution is 1440x900. So anything will be a vast improvement. The Extra space on a 1440p display does seem like it would be great for my workflow. Any tips much appreciated.Cheers
  3. Thanks for the reply.Ya I was considering the 2x8 so I can add another 16gbs in the future as ill most likely need it.So there wont be compatibility issues then if its quad channel?Im goin with the 5820k as I need something with serious horsepower(and wont be upgrading for 4-5 years). Its not just for editing audio, its for production so ill be using a lot of cpu hungry virtual instruments and plugins which can max out a processor pretty fast sadly.I have multiple SSD's as each one is doing something different, the 500gb is for sample libraries(which eat through ram at an alarming rate annoyingly.1 alone could use 2 gigs and Ill have a lot in a session) the 120 is for audio and 250 for the OS and programs etc.Graphics card isnt important really as any consumer laptop can run a session.Im just after something solid and affordable as the 5820k doesnt come with any onboard graphics.Ill check out a 970 once its a decent price. Thanks for the help
  4. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vNpPdC Hey guys Im just about finished picking the parts for an audio production PC,which will also be my first attempt at a build.Ive picked a fairly cheap graphics card thats compatible with the motherboard as I wont be needing anything special to run a DAW(cubase) with 2D graphics. Is there anything better for around the same price or is what I have fine? Also ive picked 2 different 16gbs of ram as Im unsure whether the 2x8 or 4x4 is the better option. The motherboard says quad channel so Im presuming 4x4 then? Thanks in advance
  5. Ok the graphics card in my current rig is the NVIDIA Geforce 9500 GT.Apparently graphics cards aren't too important.Ill be running cubase 8 on windows 7 64bit.Cubase only has 2d graphics. One thing of note, to run cubase windows aero theme must be on at all times.Up to this current version it has always been disabled and windows basic themes have been used to save processing power. My current graphics card seems to be doing ok so perhaps I could use it in the new set up once its compatible?I reckon a new power supply will be needed though as my current one is pretty old and looks a little worse for wear.Cheers
  6. Hi,ok budget wise im gona say 1000.I can get the 4790x for 350 ish by the looks of it and the motherboard mentioned above for about 150.I do have a power supply and graphics card in my old rig an nvidia and cooler master. Not sure of the exact names but i reckon an upgrade would be required as they are pretty old at this stage.Graphics card isnt really that important but I can check the requirements needed for my software and post back. Thanks
  7. Hi,thanks for taking the time to suggest all parts.Much appreciated. As far as storage goes I have 3 samsung 850 evo ssd's purchased already.Cant see myself overclocking it but its good to have the option there.Graphics card isnt really a priority as even the one I currently have seems to be doing ok but I reckon I should upgrade it just to be sure as my current one may be causing some issues with newer plugins etc.But a pretty cheap one should do the job I would say.Wont ever be gaming on this machine, just using it for music production. As far as ram goes Ive been eyeing some g skill ripjaws stuff but im not too sure as of yet.Is there a big difference in quality or would I just be over spending? Will definitely be putting 32 gbs in though as I can max out ram pretty fast with sample libraries. The motherboard seems a good price so Ill go with that I guess.Seems to have plenty of usb inputs which is essential. If anybody else has anymore suggestions feel free to chime in.Thanks again
  8. Hi guys,as far as budget goes I haven't really set an overall one for the final build.I'm just weighing up some options but don't want to go over the top either. As far as the motherboard goes though about 150-200 max i guess. That's euro's now(im from ireland) so while that works out 220ish dollars, over in the Uk/europe id be paying that bit extra for parts by the looks of it.So for anything in the 150-200 dollar price range Ill pretty much be paying the same price in euro's if that helps.Im looking for a motherboard with solid performance,so im not after anything with crazy add ons that knock the price up as I dont want to over spend on it.But if they are vital for a performance boost,so be it.So if i can get a solid performer for 150 ill go with that but if spending 200 gets me a small performance boost I certainly dont mind spending that bit extra.Would have to be worth while though. So you guys would recommend going with 4790k as the cpu then? Thanks again
  9. Hi guys, first post on here,so thanks for having me.Im upgrading my current set up as its pretty old and cant cope with what im throwing at it these days so ive decided to build a new one.Ive never done this before(my mate built my current set up on a budget,5 years ago) so im just getting to grips with all the terms and components etc.Its been an interesting few days .Anyway, ill be using this pc for music production only, absolutely nothing else. From what ive read intel seem to be the best cpu's for music production so im going one of those. The i7 4790k seems to pop up a lot(was considering the 5820k but the price of ram and motherboard is a bit much right now) but im unsure what motherboard to get with it.It needs to be a Z97 i think.Basically im very unsure what to look for,all i know is i will need plenty of usb ports. Also i dont want to over spend if its not needed but dont want cut corners either.Just something with solid performance for a decent price.Having said that ive just come across 4930k which has more cores and the more cores the better for music production.I know this takes ddr3 ram but is it as good as the 4790k or rather is it more suited to my needs? Its a year or 2 older than the 4790k so maybe not?Still new to this so im a bit confused.Anyway id be happy to go with the 4790k(as ive seen it recommended for music production) but im looking for help choosing a motherboard and some other parts.Im also looking to put 32gbs of ram in there too and I have 3 samsung 850 evo ssd's.Could you guys suggest some other parts?Btw im not planning on overclocking but in the future who knows. Also graphics cards arent too important. To put things in perspective my current rig is a MSI 770 g45 motherboard with AMD phenomx2 quadcore with a 500gb 5200rpm hard drive. So this will be a huge upgrade in performance regardless. Thanks in advance and sorry for rambling on a bit.Cheers
