  1. Yeah probably, but this could probably be used for more than just what I'm using it for.
  2. I just wanted to share this mini project I did a few days ago. Feel free to move it if it's not in the correct section, but this seemed most appropriate? Basically I've been using Verizons 4G LTE with unlimited data (RIP as of next month) for my main internet for the last 4 years and it's been working great. I had this hardware and decided I'd put it all together and see how well it would work. Surprisingly well actually, get a lav mic, better laptop with the exhaust vent not facing the bottom of the bag and an actual HDMI capture card and this would be a real sweet setup. Oh and maybe some extra batteries for continuous streaming... (Provided you have decent 4G coverage)
  3. I know the last post was 6 days ago, but I wanted to chime in and say that this has basically ruined my business and is forcing me to move now. Got the letter today and immediately called Verizon. Spoke to the supervisor and their manager and they claim to have not heard of this at all. I live up in the mountains where dialup is the only internet option. So to go from 60mb / 15mb to 56k would be a deal breaker for me. I regularly use 500GB a month and I live in a pretty remote place, so I doubt I'm causing any traffic congestion. Had this plan for five years now and I'm not giving it up. I'll go to the deepest layer of hell to keep it. Up yours Verizon.
  4. Source: http://store.steampowered.com/news/22883/ Valve has announced that they will be taking action against "Gambling Sites" and sending out cease and desist notices. These sites basically allow people to gamble using in-game items received in Valve's title; Counter Strike: Global Offensive. At the moment, Valve does not offer any way to sell your items for real currency that you can cash out, as a result, some of these sites exploit that for their own gain by taking a percent of a transaction. There has been skepticism revolving around Valve's association with these sites. Valve claims no association and say they haven't received any revenue from these sites. The sites were mainly created using Valve's OpenID login system and automated bots which is also against their Terms of Service. You may notice the ability to sign in with Steam in many places including the LTT forums when you attempt to sign in. What remains to be seen is if any of these sites will comply and how Valve will deal with them. One would imagine it should be fairly easy to blacklist a domain from using their OpenID system?
  5. Just a follow up, it's been nearly a month and it was doing alright, no issues.. But unfortunately it's come back out of nowhere again. I even downclocked it further to 600MHz and 1GHz on the memory with it still happening 2-3 times a day, Is it possible that something else could cause this? Motherboard?
  6. Hm yeah, there's no doubt a very good chance that this card may have had a rough life back in the day. I will knock the memory clock down to say 1300 Mhz and the core clock to 850 and see if I can go more than a day without issues then raise it up to halway and so forth until I can get something stable out of it. If all else fails, well, not sure what else it could be.. Thanks for your input, I shall report back soon either way
  7. Had to get in the obligatory 'AMD runs hot' joke in there:P I know what you mean though, it varies. It appears to just be a standard reference cooler and the vendor is VisionTek. The guy I got these from before may have ran them hard though. I actually got two of them that came with water blocks installed and all that. But since I didn't have all the other stuff to utilize the blocks, I just put the reference coolers back on and sold the extra card and water blocks and basically got the cards for free. I re-applied the thermal compound with some old AS5 I had lying around (keep in mind this was over a year ago) Haven't had any issues until now, so I'm not sure why these issues happen now of all times.
  8. Yeah, it is a bit warm, but I just did a quick load test to see what it's max temp is under full load and it appears to plateau at 92. I don't think that's too unusual for an AMD card though.
  9. Nope, no artificating at all, even when under full load. I may try underclocking it a little bit, here's what the settings are currently. I said not overclocked, but this may have been what it was at when I got it, I can't remember honestly. Now that I look at it, isn't that memory clock a little high? I did get these from a friend, but I don't think he messed with the settings.
  10. OS: Windows 10 x64 CPU: i7 2600k RAM: 16GB DDR3 GPU: HD 7970 MOB: MSI Z77A-G45 This started happening not too long after I switched to Windows 10. I've made sure I'm using the most up to date drivers and whatnot. Temps are looking fine, idling at around 60-70C depending on what I'm doing. Not overclocked, happens whether I'm gaming, watching youtube or writing code, doesn't seem to matter. Any audio that's playing will continue to play for 2-3 seconds and then it will do the infinite loop sound shortly after. I'm leaning towards GPU failure of some sort, but have no idea. It still runs games just fine, and happens completely at random. The screens look like this: And here's the most recent failure, with the screens getting more colorful. (The middle screen also had the same kind of line effect as above, but in red.. you just can't see it) Happens at least once a day with it occurring sometimes several times per day. I've had a similar issue before, but could not remember what I did to fix it because it was so very long ago.
  11. Nearly two weeks later annd... Someone at Kingston came out of nowhere and contacted me about getting it RMA'd (even though it was out of warranty) So now I got a nice and new V300. And this one appears to be the nice Taiwan made one, not the China ones with the slow NAND. Thanks Kingston
  12. ehh, if it wasn't completely dead I would take it to the range it put a big bullet through it.. But, after lots of agony and wrestling with windows I think I have finally 'recovered' the drive. The speeds are quite poor, but I think I can now use it for game storage and whatnot. For comparison, here's the OCZ Vertex 2 I've fallen back to using for my OS: Funny story, I had some misc pictures I was trying to get off of the dying drive, but for some reason windows no longer recognized it as a usable drive. It had said it didn't have a file system and called it RAW. So, using some data recovery programs I managed to get some off, but some were scambled beyond recognition.. like, the files names were there, but it's as if the data belonging to the files were scrambled around randomly. Anyways, after putting new firmware on it and reformatting a few times and running chkdsk, it seems to be usable once more.
  13. ah, rip those images lol, no idea what happened to them. Basically my old/new ssd blew the broken one out of the water. Also, I think it's dead. It's been that way for 12 hours, lol. Completely frozen.
  14. (9 hours later) Got everything moved over and set up, finally. Issue is gone, have yet to wipe and test the faulty drive though. Gonna do that soon, need to do a clone of it first incase I forgot to move anything over. New drive speeds: Old drive speeds:
