i7 8550U vs i7 4790K
SubZeroKelvin replied to SubZeroKelvin's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The gram's main problem is cooling so during cinebench the U would average at 2.5GHz. I'm pretty sure that with a beefier cooling solution it could maintain it's high frequencies. I got 917 on the CPU test with my 4790K and 525 with the 8550U. -
i7 8550U vs i7 4790K
SubZeroKelvin replied to SubZeroKelvin's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I'm currently downloading and installing LaTeX for my work so I'll do a cinebench run as son as I'm done. The 8550U turbos to 4GHz. I'll use HWMonitor to check it on a per core basis. -
i7 8550U vs i7 4790K
SubZeroKelvin replied to SubZeroKelvin's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
My 4790K was overclocked to 4.6GHz. I think the single core performance on the 8550U is really good and the multi core is not bad either for a "mobile" processor. -
I just did a quick Geekbench test on my recently purchased LG gram and I got 4506 single and 10862 multi. I then did the same thing on my gaming PC and I was stunned by the results: 5088 single and 18087 multi. I expected my rig to destroy the new notebook but it didn't. Man those new U processors are really good!

Gigabyte NVIDIA Gtx 980Ti Or or 1070/1080
SubZeroKelvin replied to Craig_Thomas_Scott's topic in Graphics Cards
He probably meant nVidia features. If you only want to game then I would also suggest to go with the newer architecture. If however you need cuda cores, the 980Ti has more of them than the 1070. -
The Division player count drops 93% since launch
SubZeroKelvin replied to Trik'Stari's topic in Tech News
Tbh, MMO's all have a hard time retaining players except in Asia. I remember when SW:TOR came out we had queues to enter the servers but now they are mostly empty. Almost every game except WoW suffered from it. -
Maybe someone planted telemetry code in MS's own stuff lol!

The Division's graph seems to reflect what the article says : 1080>Titan X>980 Ti>1070

Tom's Hardware published a series of photos introducing the company (for those out there who are not really into WC), and also documenting the whole process of building a waterblock. You can see pictures of the 3D models they create to be used on their CNC milling machine, how the micro-channel structure is cut on the copper piece and even the assembly team as they put every part into place. Pretty cool stuff! Link: http://www.tomshardware.com/picturestory/697-ekwb-factory-tour.html

You should note that it turns your 2 slot card into a 3 slot + it adds some length to the card (about 3 cm). I used to have a CF of 7970s but when I decided to buy the Xtreme coolers, I could only fit one in my Antec P180.

Do I need a soundcard, amp, or dac for my Sennheiser G4me Zero's?
SubZeroKelvin replied to Zhihenth's topic in Audio
The Sennheiser headset is more neutral sounding and reproduces music more accurately (ie the way it was recorded). It really is worth it's price ! -

You may enjoy your Sennheiser headset if you fiddle around with a software EQ to tune it to your tastes. -
But at the same time you would spend say $700 on a 980 ti and still want to change it a couple years later. An audio product is meant to be kept for a long time (over a decade, and for headphones it would be even more).

To be perfectly honest, the only way I could order it was online and I still didn't get it. I took all of the necessary precautions to make sure that if I didn't like the sound of it I could send it back and get refunded. I currently own a PC360 so it's not an audiophile grade headset, but with the E1 they really sound much better.
