  1. Hello, I have a 23-inch Apple Cinema Display that I'm wanting to use with a VESA mount. I am 6'4, and have measured that I'll need the mount to reach at least 20 inches (51cm) above my desk for optimal ergonomics. My budget is ~$100 USD, though I can go higher if I have to. I'm sick of using this monitor on a box that still isn't tall enough. Bonus points if the mount can handle 20lb (9kg) so when I upgrade to an ultrawide monitor there'll be minimum fuss. There are these WALI and Mount-It! stands I have found that fit my criteria. For the mount adapter I have found these three, AMER Mounts, Human Centric 1, and Human Centric 2. Link to my r/buildapc thread. I'd appreciate any advice or recommendations, thank you!
  2. I recently switched to Red Team from Green. The rule of thumb for nVidia was never to update drivers from the GeForce Experience as that often screwed stuff up. Is the same true of AMD and Radeon Settings? I.E. is it safer to download the driver installer from AMD's website?
  3. Like a hidden bitcoin miner somewhere?
  4. Neither. No crypto currency and from my knowledge it's never been overclocked.
  5. My GTX 780 ti has been repeatedly ceasing video output across all its ports. I believe this started around the time I installed driver update 382.05, at first I thought it was Fallout 4 due to reading that it caused driver issues for some in the past. I'll be adding in some of my correspondence to the owner of the 780 ti which I am borrowing. The fans only only went to max that second time, I have not seen that behavior since. Note that the GPU has never ceased output during a game. I haven't tried a new PCI-E slot or opened my computer case. I'm saving that for last after I've exhausted software options. From the fan exhaust area I can see that the 780 ti is lit even after ceasing output. I completely uninstalled my nvidia drivers. Though when I installed the 378.92 drivers fresh the installer was showing me that a 382.xx driver was still installed. I thought it worked as of last night since I had no problems until I started Premiere, after about thirty seconds output ceased. Restarting my computer does not work consistently. Often there is no output, and twice I've gotten a black screen with a white line with a few blue and green dots (photo attached) after the boot screen (from different outputs). After a longer length of time I can turn the computer back on and everything is fine. So that's where I am now. If there's anything more on the software side I could check I'd like to. System specs below: Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Pro4S CPU: i7 6700k (factory clocks) RAM: g.skill ripjaws V DDR4 3000MHz GPU: nVidia GTX 780 ti ("founders edition") Power Supply: EVGA Supernova G3 650w Gold Storage: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD and 2TB HGST/Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 7200rpm OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Everything had been running smoothly since March 12th with no issues. Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide. Thanks in advance!
  6. Cool, going for the G3 then. Just verifying that this is not another NEX unit.  I cannot find anything online saying that it is. Thank you for the heads up and the thread link. I am verifying with Asrock if I can flash the motherboard's bios without a CPU.
  7. Would there be a reason not to get a G3? The price difference is negligible between the two.
  8. 1. Budget & Location I am located in Oklahoma, the nearest Fry's and Microcenters are roughly five hours away, leaving me to online purchases. US dollars of course. Though I do accept donations in the form of early 1960s Rolexes. My current costs are around $700 and the purchases final, I'm mostly double-checking compatability and future proofing with all of you. 2. Aim The rig is basically going to be 50/50 purposed for video editing and gaming. Please do note that I am not purchasing a video card at this time. I have a friend who is very kindly lending me a GTX 780ti until I can get my own video card. I use Adobe CS6 at home right now, it's mostly hobby editing so I don't have a need for thunderbolt, just expandability for external USB drives. I may overclock my CPU, it's dependent on the noise and temps I get with my current cooler. Otherwise I'll wait until I can get some nice watercooling and 140mm fans. 3. Monitors Right now I am stuck with a 1080p Dell VGA monitor and my 1080p TV. In the future I'll either be aiming for a 1440p ultrawide monitor or a pair of 1440p monitors, both at 60hz. I do not have any plans to aim above 60fps for games. 4. Peripherals I have speakers, headphones, a good keyboard, mouse, and mousepad already. Windows is also taken care of. 5. Why are you upgrading? I am moving off of an ASUS G75VW, it served me nicely for quite a while, but couldn't run newer titles like Doom or Battlefront 1 well and I've been dreaming of a personal tower for almost ten years now. I want my 3000Mhz RAM for overhead. I like lightning fast response in my computer and I don't want to feel bottlenecks anywhere. So even if it's not cost effective or sensical, I want my 3000Mhz RAM. pcpartpicker dump PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.00 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (Purchased For $0.00) Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Pro4S ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (Purchased For $90.00) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (Purchased For $104.99) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Case: NZXT H440 (Matte Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($115.98 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ Amazon) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit (Purchased For $0.00) Keyboard: Logitech G19s Wired Gaming Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) Mouse: Logitech G700s Wireless Laser Mouse (Purchased For $0.00) Speakers: Logitech Z200 0W 2ch Speakers (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $729.96 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-03-03 17:16 EST-0500
  9. My old Xbox One headphones went out recently. I've been stuck with a cheapy little Sony pair, an Aria would be a godsend.
  10. While I have a nice mouse, my PC gaming sister has only a wireless Logitech travel mouse to use. She is surely deserving of an upgrade, and would put it to good use.
  11. I have CS6 right now, I might have to move onto Creative Cloud by next year depending on what the next update brings. From what I'm reading, the 970 should be fine. My budget is based on what I'll end up getting from selling my current laptop along with what little I have saved personally, so $1,300 is about my limit. Moving up to DDR4 and all that feels excessive for me, personally.
  12. Hello, this is my first build, transitioning from living with laptops. I'm intending to play modern AAAs on this rig like Arkham Knight, Shadow of Mordor, Battlefront 3 when that comes out, and also Star Trek Online, but this will, of course, kill that. When I'm not gaming with it, I'll be using it for my digital media college classes, which will use all the main Adobe Creative Suite software, along with Lightwave. Currently I use a 1920x1200 2008-era Apple Cinema Display, so I do need to figure out if the 970 will connect to the monitor (since it uses mini-Display Port) or if I'll need an adapter or something more drastic. Secondarily I connect to a 1080p TV that I use for controller gaming/second monitor-ish things. I never run a game on two monitors at once, nor am I planning to. I have a good mouse and keyboard I'll continue to use, and I have a copy of Windows already as well. And until I decide to overclock it much later on I figure the stock CPU-cooler will be good. So my biggest three questions are, did I pick a good motherboard, did I pick a good hard drive, and what to do about my Apple monitor. Also note that the hard drive is actually a HUA723020ALA641 as opposed to a HUA723020ALA640. I couldn't find it on PC Part Picker (and now I'm having trouble putting in its Amazon link as well). Thanks for looking!
