  1. Hey masters! I come before you need of assistance! I'm looking to replace my old, old, old Hanspree HF 237 which I've had since 2009 if I remember correctly so something like 7 or so. Anyway I've decided to go to 1440p and I would very much appreciate your input to choose between three screens : ASUS PB258Q, BenQ BL2420PT and the Dell UltraSharp UP2516D. All 1440p. I'll be mostly gaming on them so if you have personal experience or have any knowledge you can share it'd be a huge help! Cheers!
  2. Actually I'm running windows 10...
  3. Heya, So I've messed around a bit more with it and tada! For some reason, as long as my 7970 doesn't actually dislay anything, all the sensors don't say anything. However as soon as I actually hook it up to something it works. Odd but drivers for both AMD and NVIDIA seem to be working fine.
  4. Hey gurus of the net! So long story short, I have a 7970 and a 980ti in my system. Why ? Because I use the 7970 to render vids and stuff as my 980ti for some reason doesn't work for rendering. I tried installing the drivers for AMD but everytime I try to open the radeon parameters thing (the equivalent of the catalyst control center of old I guess right ?) it tells me no drivers are installed, not only that but the sensors on my 7970 don't pick up anything, temp, core clock, anything.... I tried several different driver versions, installing, uninstalling, clean installs, installs with and without the Nvidia drivers running, nothing worked... As such if any of you have a wise white beard that would be willing to whisper me the secrets of AMD and Nvidia drivers it'd be greatly appreciated!
  5. Hey guys, was just curious as I'm nearing the completion (finally) of my build, I'm trying to find an OC I'm happy with. Currently I'm running 4.5 ghz across all 6 cores on 1.15v. Note though that hyperthreading is disabled because I have had significant fps improvements with it off ensuring the games run on real cores and not virtual (if that's how it works). Here's Crysis (2007) as an example: Crysis OC With Hyperthreading: -Averages: 51.51-55.45-55.35-55.45 -Min Frames:11.11-11.11-11.11-11.11 -Max Frames:75.10-81.57-81.57-81.57 Crysis OC Without Hyperthreading -Averages: 86.91-97.38-97.58-67.67 -Min Frames:63.50-63.50-63.50-63.50 -Max Frames:118.44-123.85-123.85-123.85 Running a 280 rad and a 360, temps don't go over 50 on any cores and 34 for the gpu when running aida64's stability test. It has to be noted though that ever since I put some anti algae, the loop's gotten gunked up with crap, I'm gonna drain it and clean it next week and I'll stick with distilled water this time around. Anyway all this just to ask if it looks like I got a good/average/bad cpu and what you guys think might be possible for this cpu. Cheers
  6. I am once again in need of assistance! I am in the process of rendering videos. While my old 7970 shows up just fine in any video rendering software, my 980ti does not, sony says "no gpu available". I read something somewhere that nvidia weren't doing cuda acceleration anymore so the whole maxwell architecture wouldn't work with that... that true ? If it is, is there any way I can get my 980ti to help in rendering ? it just sits at 0 while the cpu does everything which is quite slow. If it is not true then what is wrong and how do I fix it ? I've got all the latest version/drivers of everything but no can do, if you guys know what's going on, the help would be much appreciated! Cheers
  7. @Yoinkerman I thought of that, but for roughly the same price 4x ssd's will be quite a bit faster so.... As for the 950 what's holding me back is it's quite a bit more expensive per gb and I can only have on my motherboard. My steam library is 920gb sooooooooo and the ssd's would only be used to hold games, so if I loose the array it's not the end of the world
  8. Hello masters, I come humbly before thee for I am in need of guidance. Looking to replace an old WD 5400rpm hard drive I hesitate between 4 sandisk extreme pro 240gb ssd's in raid 0 or a single samsung 950 pro 512 gb m.2 ssd. Which one is the weak link and which one should I pick ? Your help, I require. Cheers guys
  9. Alright, so the tracking was actually massively delayed, they received the pump on Thursday and sent it back on Tuesday, so they took a standard amount of time to test it. The pump did not arrive in any box, just the packaging box and some air cushion (which were deflated). Anyway I'm assuming it's new since it works. I've just had a thought though and I'm not sure what it's worth but yeah. So the distilled water I used was old, as in several years old, it had never been opened so in theory at the very least it should have been fine, but maybe there was some growth in it ? Or the sun shining on it made vampires magically corrupt the water ? Anyway I discovered I could actually put a drain plug in my loop, it's really quite close, but under my 280 an angled fitting fits, just. So I'll be ordering a valve and be setting up a draining path so I don't have to tear it down completely every time.
  10. Well I've just received a package from the cooling retailer I bought the pump from, it looks new, unfortunately I'm not home yet so I can't test it yet, but it was faster than I was expecting. I say it looks new because I didn't get a reply from the retailer. They received my package and on the same day they sent something back. If it's a new pump, well I'll be bloody impressed. That said they didn't send any e-mail saying the pump was found defective or anything, not my first time with customer support, but the first time I get something shipped back the same day with no info. So yeah I guess that' pretty much it. If putting the pump in doesn't fix my temps I'll try running the loop backwars so I can put the cpu block on the right side up. If that still doesn't work I'll have to contact EK. I guess that's it for now.
  11. Hello people, I have recently upgraded to the X99 chipset with a I7 5820k. I've coupled it with some 2666 mhz ddr4 G.skill Ripsjaws 4 32 gb. This leads me to my questions: -In linus's vid, he gets results of about 50000 mb/s in read in quad channel mode with 3000mgz ram, he's also using an i7 5820k. I get 45000 mb/s which seems normal, however Jay gets a wooping 60000 mb/s with slower ram, so I ask, what gives ? Is the i7 5960x the reason for the 50% speed increse ? or is there something else I'm missing ? (tested running Aida64) -Next: those speeds are when benchmarking the ram as ram. However when I use the ram as a ramdisk, it's all the way down to 5000 mb/s so again, what gives ? Is it software bottlenecked? Is it the fact that since it's considered as a disk it slows it down so much ? (tested running crystaldiskmark). Anyway just a bit of curiosity, cheers.
  12. Alright, well then at least that's some good news, though it confirms that something is badly wrong with the loop, since a 360 and a 280 thick make no difference temperature wise, I'm probably gonna have to wait around two weeks at best before I get a new pump, so I settled for a 4.0 Ghz OC @ 1.23 v for the time being, I just tried random values it's stable so I might be able to lower the voltage a bit but I'm not too interested in spending too long trying to get an OC for a temporary solution, we'll see. Well until I get my new pump there's not much more to do I guess... Final temps report @ 4 Ghz are under Aida 64 test 75 73 79 75 78 70.
  13. Ok OC'd at 4.5 Ghz @ 1.292v, I had it running at 1.286 the other day but I had some issue there as I tried booting it with any OC, I had to switch bios, then switch back and then it booted while oc'ed, not sure what was going on but I raised the voltage a tiny bit to give me a bit of headroom for stability. For idle with corsair link, cpu-z, realtemp gt and internet open, youtube vid playing and me on this forum I have max temps of 48 46 50 50 46 44, since turbo boost is disabled it's running at full power constantly for a single 120mm AIO I think that's pretty much normal no ? Gonna try aida 64 now, I'm hoping for max mid 70 at tops, if it goes to 78 or more I'll stop it. Let's see how it goes... Ok... Well after about 30 seconds I got 79 73 87 75 82 71 degrees for the core temps, though it was all over the place, went to 80+ then back down to 68 then back up, no consistency, sooo not sure if normal or not... your thoughts are welcome and needed...
  14. So I've just put a Cooler Master Seidon 120M for the moment on the 5820k until my replacement pump gets here, so far at stock speeds at idle I get max temps of 42 42 41 41 42 41 considering it's currently 35 degrees ambient, I'd say it's pretty normal with AIDA 64 under stress test after 17 minutes with internet browsing I get max temps of 55 51 56 54 55 52, I'm gonna try to OC it now and see what gives.
  15. I'm using a pump/res combo that slots in the middle bay, (yeah it's a bay res). Tried aida64 stability test and the temps gave the same results. Maybe 5 degrees or so cooler, but still ridiculous temps for a cooling loop. I've also made a build log that's go pics and I talked about the steps I took when building it : http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/402355-wolfs-pride/
