No, it wouldn't. He's getting a 3770 for half the price, and a used LGA1155 motherboard will be cheaper than a new LGA1151 motherboard. He'll be able to spend more on the GPU if he gets the used chip.

However, that comes with all the risks of buying used hardware.

For 4K gaming, you want the 1080. But you still should get the 5820k as it's faster and on a higher-end chipset.

Also, if you chose the option of an attached storage device such as a NAS to use as scratch disk, you would have the scratch disc, but your NAS would not be able to work in the mode that is designed for (the NAS bit). As the other devices you are wishing to attach to it would not be able to negotiate a connection to it (without the router), computers could use Windows home group when the computer is on, but steaming from that storage device to a set top box or smart TV would not work.
I bought a cheap D-Link DNS-320L and when I attached it to my main computer the speed was fantastic. However, once I attached it directly to the router to gain the internet access from anywhere the speed and access became poultry. It can hold two drives and up to 8Tb of storage, but adding big files to it and taking them off is slow (even if I use a CAT cable to the router).

Putting it into a RAID configuration gave some speedier access, but it is still very much a remote access device and not a scratch disk for editing.
Usually I use three attached internal SSDs for editing; the first one that has the editing software installed on which is the main C drive, the second drive has the files that I want to edit RAW footage, for example, with the third drive being the one that all the completed footage gets exported from the editing software to. The speed is 6Kb/s and does not slow the read or write access as they can all be accessed individually, obviously the connections to the scratch discs are SATA and not bidirectional.

Unfortunately no it wouldn't give you 3Gbps, not what that feature is for. In rare cases it can work but unless you are experienced in NIC Teaming/Link Aggregation you won't have the knowledge to assess if it would work in the desired configuration.

Also to add to the list of issues Windows 10 (if that is your editing OS) doesn't officially support NIC teaming at all yet, it is possible using insider builds but like other features I have used in this they don't always work well or can break after a new build is released.

NIC Teaming/Link Aggregation is for giving redundancy and extra bandwidth over the whole team for multiple connections but 1 single connection can only use 1 path so 1Gbps. Round Robin and Adaptive load balancing are the methods to allow single connections to get the full team bandwidth but all connections in the chain must support these for it to work properly.

Check out some of the QNAP options as they have models that support thunderbolt & thunderbolt 2 connectivity and tons of 10Gbps ready models which you can pair with a cheap 10Gbps NIC off ebay ($20-$100 USD) for your workstation.

I reckon the i7 6700K should handle video and photo editing relatively fine. Go for the GTX 1080, although you'll still need to turn down some settings to achieve a constant 60 FPS.

5820k is still better than 6700k because of its extra cores,so you are golden

I'm not sure about editing, all I can tell you is related either to gaming performance or to value-for-money part of the dilemma, so gaming-wise, you won't feel a difference between the 6700K and 5820K, but the 5820K is more futureproof and is better value.

If the price of the 6700K + 1080 will be equal to the price of 5820K + 1070 system then get the first one.

Easily. It would suffice for two 1080s inside of that system.

It should be considering that the GTX 1080 isn't actually that much of a power hungry GPU-even when overclocked. 650W for me managed to handle my i7 4790K (4.8GHz OC)+my GTX 970 and 650ti OC 2GB 24/7 with enough headroom to get an extra 50MHz on the GTX 970 (100MHz effective due to GPU boost) and 129MHz on the GTX 650ti.

Edit: the test load was F@H for about a week BTW

I think I'll get the 100-300 (works as a 200-600 in 35mm full frame), I have a tripod, it's not the most steady but it functions... So the telezoom would be useful for nature photography I think

4K is a overrated, I agree on that but it would be a nice thing to have available. I also just read that the RX100 IV has slow motion (which I could really use) so I'm probably picking that one up, it also has great sound quality so no need for an addon microphone

why? you dont need 4k. 1080p60fps is enough.... and plus it takes up so much more space....

Does your laptop have a fan that shuts down when temps are safe? It might be becasue the fan shuts of, the temp rises slowly, then the fan turns on and cools it down quickly, and then it repeats this...

On my personal laptop it goes up to about 65 C and then the cooling turns on again... CPU's are very good with fluctuating temps, this shouldn't affect the lifetime more than a few days a most ;-)
