  1. Plugs the leak if Taco Bell hits before the shift is over? Intimidate and potentially threaten customers and colleagues? For real, what does it do? I only know those inflatable 'pads' to lift stuff, but that looks like it expands in a tube?
  2. From a quick google search it appears that the fan headers on the board are a mini version usually used on GPUs (probably since its a small ITX board). However, there should be adapters included in the box:
  3. A tube of Arctic MX-5 to re-paste my GTX970 which currently toils away in my rather toasty SFF Living Room Gaming Box. When I took the card apart I was kind of amazed that it still held 80°C at reasonable fan speeds, given the fact that the OEM paste crumbled to pieces before my eyes (to be fair, there's 2x 120mm NF-F12 strapped to the card). Temperatures didn't drop much (if I recall correctly, I've set a target of 80°C in there somewhere), but noise level dropped a bit more, so I hope the card stays alive a bit longer. I do not fancy shopping for a new GPU given the current madness...
  4. well, the fix for me was to buy a new mouse. or a new old mouse, since I simply got another 402 probably just got a bad one and some part of it died
  5. Budget (including currency): cheapest for desired use case, otherwise not restricted Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: purely Couch Gaming at 1080p, potentially 4K gaming / VR after GPU Upgrade, no streaming Hi Folks, I just moved flats and cannot connect my main gaming rig to my TV any more and hence plan on building a living room gaming pc using the Node202. I'm aware of the constraints of an ITX build and specifically the potential thermal struggles of the Node202, but that's something I choose to live with. The rig will purely used for gaming from the couch, in FHD on a 4k TV - I sit so far away that the gained details aren't wort the performance impact. For now, the GPU will be an old GTX970 Strix - depending on the to be announced / released mid-range of both team red / green - I might put something new in there or upgrade my main rig and hand it's 2070 down to the living room box. For now, the 970 should be able to handle the usual suspects just fine (Single Player RPGs + Couch CoOp / Multiplayer). However, I can't wrap my head around MoBo + CPU combination. Since it's no high performance machine, I could go with Ryzen 2600 and a cheaper B450 MoBo. Or I go for Ryzen 3600, which would require a B550 Motherboard, since I don't have an old chip to upgrade the bios with, service fees for BIOS upgrades are a ripoff here and AFAIK, there are no B450 ITX boards that support BIOS Update via USB Flash utility. Ryzen 5600 is probably out of the question, MSRP would be +150€ @ 349€, though it's out of stock everywhere and probably won't be available at MSR for quite some time. So it basically comes down to this: PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/JFBckX CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (€207.99 @ Mindfactory) Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard (€174.37 @ Amazon Deutschland) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (€63.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Case: Fractal Design Node 202 HTPC Case (€71.05 @ Amazon Deutschland) Power Supply: Corsair SF 600 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply (€112.90 @ Alternate) Custom: 1TB SDD Custom: 2TB HDD Total: €630.30 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-11-23 15:56 CET+0100 vs. PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/bFJfp2 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor (€127.99 @ Mindfactory) Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard (€107.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (€63.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Case: Fractal Design Node 202 HTPC Case (€71.05 @ Amazon Deutschland) Power Supply: Corsair SF 600 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply (€112.90 @ Alternate) Custom: 1TB SDD Custom: 2TB HDD Total: €483.83 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-11-23 15:58 CET+0100 Do you think it's worth the additional ~150 bucks for the planned use case? I'm open for other motherboard suggestions, though ITX for B550 is really scarce. The 600W SFX is probably overkill, but as far as I know, the SFX PSUs tend to get noticeable loud if pushed and I'd like to get around that by oversizing at that front. Also - I'm not necessarily bound to AMD, but I honestly don't know much about Intels lineup any more, so it's hard for me to throw a comparable system from team blue together. Best, Chris
  6. TBO, I was expecting the 'non'-critical movements to happen a lot faster - e.g. picking up the parts etc. Also - CPU positioning is much easier with an LGA socket. Nonetheless, the thing can churn out assembled boards all day every day, and all the precision and speed is pretty much only an issue of configuration. Also, impressive to see how easy a prototype 'arm' and mount can be made for these things.
  7. Not sold on that one. I know, it's not all form follows function here, but given that even the reference design uses 100mm or even larger fans - why TF do you design a card thats a good 3cm / over an inch higher than the PCI Slot brackets and still put measly 92mm fans on it? its not like they did not have the space, given the height / width of the card? Sure, you can't judge a cooler by its cover looks, but that seems like last years design wit ha diffferent LED shroud on it...
  8. We finally figured it out. Though it really is a tough one. Isdera Commendatore 112i German prototype car - only two built in total, one in 1993 and one in 1999 according to Wikipedia. Probably the only car ever to have its rear view mirror mounted to the roof Prominently featured in Need for Speed II: All local rivalries aside - Autos bauen können sie - diese Schwaben... Correction / Update: Man, this turned out to be quite the rollercoaster. The car depicted above - with the license plate SLS-CW-112 is the original Isdero Commendatore 112i. That very same car is currently property of the german ISDERA AG. Once the first car was finished, they started working on a second one - but only the frame was finished. A few years ago, someone bought said frame and tried complete the car. Initially, the ISDERA AG wanted to cooperate, but since the buyer of the frame wanted to alter parts of the car while still trying to get it licensed under the commendatore 112i name, they subsequently refused cooperation. It looks like the owner of the frame managed to complete the car and succeeded in receiving a license for it, however as a imperator 108i. That's the car of original post. Both parties currently are still fighting over the fact whether the 'rebuild' by a private owner can be called a true 112i , despite the fact that it wasn't build by the Isdera company and subsequently doesn't share the same heritage. Officially, the company is currently trying to resolve the issue and - I quote: "The ISDERA management and myself are taking all necessary and possible steps to pull this craft off the road. There was and ever will be - unfortunately - only one Commendatore 112i. I sincerely hope that this affair will be settled soon and that such a vilification of the Isdera heritage will be put to an end post-haste by the authorities" - Eberhard Schulz, founder of Isdera, Sept. 2019. (Source, in German: 'Open letter by Eberhard Schul - There is only one isdera commendatore 112' Boy did I learn something today
  9. Hi folks, Anyone here able to tell me what make / model that is? I initially thought McLaren, but the only model old enough for round rear lights is the F1 and that has pairs of two and not a single one on each side and also a completely different read end. A mate of mine sent me this picture and I can't wrap my head around it: An no, I don't have a bigger picture unfortunately .___.
  10. I never realized the IKEA LACK table had the perfect size to be abused as a ghetto, 5$ rack mount. Pure genius.
  11. One more addition for the Fulla 2 (own one and use it to drive a pair of HD650 - can't comment on the stack, since I haven't listened to it) + also works with Android, specifically got a Micro USB to USB C Cable and occasionally drag the fulla from my desk to the couch for a comfy listening session (Tested successfully with Samsung SGS6, Huawei P20Pro and Galaxy Tab S2) - at least my unit occasionally crackles when changing volume
  12. It took me literally a minute to realize that this topics is not about some random new meme format aka 'Linus Brave Tips' with some horrifying picture including lots of flesh, a screwdriver, watercooling parts, human orifices and - possibly - LTT-branded underwear... In hindsight, I'm not even sure what made me click on the link...
  13. Or vodka. I've cleaned numerous electronics using vodka when lacking isoprop. And I'm not even russian. Only downside is that it doesn't evaporate as good, so you have to use a damp vodka cloth and a separate one for getting any remaining moisture off.
  14. No, it's an illegal PC building technique, only known to a few people. AMD is aware of this and is actively pursuing anyone who's doing this. Tell me when you read the post so I can delete this after. /s On a more serious note: no, it shouldn't affect your cooling performance. The shroud is screwed to the heat sink and the holes appear to be symmetrical. So you can rotate it any way you want. Contact between CPU and cooler is also not affected since the mounting mechanism isn't altered.
  15. Childhood - revisited: Already had the free mod from years ago but decided to buy it again to get the latest version and support the devs. Worth. Every. Penny.
  16. AFAIK, it's usually stored in a chip not wiped when reinstalling a pc. Lenovo once was under fire for having bloatware stored in a chip in the motherboard and reinstalling it right after a fresh wipe on some laptops a few years back. a malicious root kit would work the same but "reinstall" a virus. For some there is special software to delete the malicious code on that chip , but most of the time it's easiest to simply replace the affected hardware. Though - depending on how big the tinfoil hat you wanna wear is - conspiracies have it that China can install / installed 'spy chips' on (server) hardware prior to delivery - so how can anyone be sure? ? On a more serious note - chances of catching something like this are extremely slim. if you scabbed your pc and the results says it's fine you should be OK. you can wipe your pc to be extra sure, but everything else is just over the top.
  17. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit That depends on the specific kind. It's quite a nasty bit of software - the name already implies that they can get broad system access.
  18. A rootkit which is not persisted on the drive you wipe would survive.
  19. As with all mechanics jobs - take your timeand everything will be fine. Also, keep in mind that the wheel and tire do carry quite a bit of momentum if moved. Learned this the hard way when I couldn't keep my fingers out of harms way and sheared a pretty chunk of flesh off the side of my thumb. Bled like a b1tch ...
  20. Hi folks, I recently got myself an Asus MG278Q (TN, 144Hz, QHD to accompany my Asus PG278QR (IPS, 60HZ, QHD) and have one more 'gaming' oriented screen. Currently still debating whether I'm keeping it. It's a blast for gaming, 144 Hz + Adaptive Sync sure does a lot for the experience. However, I do have one major grief that I'm not sure whether it's due to the monitors tech (TN vs the IPS I've used for years, some kind of backlight strobing), I'm missing some stupid setting or something else. When displaying an image with lots of dark, flat-colored surfaces and a contrasting text (I noticed it and since then can't unsee it the Spotify track list), the darker / grey parts flicker when scrolling the text. Illustrated again using the spotify example (see image below), when scrolling - the grey parts of the screen (play bar section at the bottom, dark grey columns left and right of the "text part" of the list etc - seem to flicker / rapidly change its 'hue' / brightness while the text is in motion. I've disabled all of the overdrive options (which, if I recall correctly should cause colored fringing on the moving text if overdone and not what I've depicted above) and tested at various refresh rates - to no avail. Can someone more versed in display technology than myself explain this? Best, Chris
  21. Hi folks, My girlfriend decided she wants a "proper" screen for writing her PhD instead of using her laptop all the time. Since she doesn't want anything big or fancy and me being the generous sport my mother taught me to be, I got the great idea of simply passing her my current auxiliary monitor (23" LG IPS, good for office work but nothing special). However, this selfless act of kindness leaves me in the dreadful situation that I am currently looking for a second screen (we'll eventually move in together in a few month so there's really no need in getting another screen since she'll then use my setup as well) Use case is / requirements are the following: - setup of 2x272 QHD, the second screen being my current Asus PB278 (60Hz, IPS) - 144 Hz + GSync / GSync Compatible - at least two inputs, since I want to keep a set of spare cables behind my desk (occasional home office use with company laptop) - 100x 100mm VESA mount I currently have my eyes peeled on either the ASUS MG278Q (412€ new or ~280€ as a decent warehouse deal) or the Acer Predator XB1 XB271HU (479€ new, 381€ as a decent warehouse deal). Basic comparison on B&H: Link The Asus is a fair bit cheaper (only GSync Compatible) while the Acer is proper GSync and can be overclocked to 165Hz (but is a buy-in into team Green). Is it worth the premium? Do you have any other recommendations? Best, Chris
  22. Welcome to the forum. 1.) I'm pretty sure, the display port specification says something like 4m tops for cables. Given the bandwidth required for 160Hz @ 1440p , i fear you may be out of luck here. Possibly there are active DP cables (similar to the optical thunderbolt 3 cables Linus used for his personal rig) but those usually don't come in cheap. Your best bet probably is to simply move your rig closer to the screens 2.) I couldn't find your systems specs (most people list them in their profile or in their signature) - if you do run a cpu with an iGPU, you could run your 'HUD' of that and all the others of the dGPU / 980Ti.
