Idolizing entertainment and Tech Informers to the point where you have to leave a good service over a mistake is indicative of a real societal issue. I can handle them not being perfect, because I never thought they were.

From a journalistic standpoint, this sentiment is wrong. Publishing a defamatory piece (whether the defamation is legitimate or not) requires a request for comment from the target of the piece. It’s important for maintaining your journalistic neutrality as well as making sure you don’t get sued. It’s also important for making sure that your reporting is accurate and fair.

Requesting comment is important in journalism. If the comment is shitty, that strengthens your piece. If it recasts your criticisms, acknowledging it also strengthens your piece. This isn’t a small point even if Steve’s piece is 100% factually correct. And I find it compelling and find Linus’s response lacking.

Yeah, this is important. One of the reasons that you do that is ethical (maintaining your neutrality and journalistic integrity requires you to include any defense or context the target of your piece might wish to provide) and the other part is legal ass-covering.

By not going to Linus for comment, Steve opened himself up to defamation claims. It might even clear the legal bar for defamation of a public figure precisely because he failed to maintain journalistic neutrality in his reporting.

Many of the claims in his video are valid, and I found Linus’ response pretty lacking. That said, Steve had a professional, ethical, and possibly legal (tort legal, not crime legal) obligation to seek comment before publishing his hit piece. Steve’s failure to seek comment in advance, ironically, shows the same out of his depth sloppiness he is (seemingly largely correctly) accusing LMG of with their accuracy issues.

Yeah, Billet Labs heard nothing via email in the single business day LMG had to respond before the GN video went live.

In my other post I stated that it's mostly to have data on what is happening, I have a feeling it'll stagnate soon enough and stabilize. A lot of the loss of subs is probably people who subscribed for the LTX content, for example.

I 99% agree with GN, BUT it needs to be told that he's also biased becase LTT moving into the testing space means that LTT is now a competitor of gamer nexus.
My two cents - hah - is that GN did well to do the first video but now they need to ease on the drama and let things cool of a bit

steve runs a much smaller organization, his motive is to do hit and run job on bigger boys because they dont response as fast. this hit job took steve 6 months of planning, goes to show his scummy ways.

I just signed up to tell LMG and the whole angry internet that GN Steve is no stranger to guerilla journalism. That is to sudden strike a big boy for maximum exposure to their advantage of gaining views and subs.

Want a latest example? Check their video coverage on Asus AM5 boards and vsoc settings. GN Steve went a full video and more guerilla about Asus not correcting the vsoc values. When IN FACT, GuerillaN Steve team measured the incorrect voltage points for vsoc. His videos are invalidated and he chose to sweep the story under the rug after maximised his subs and views.

The whole AM5 vsoc was done in bad faith by GuerillaN, they themselves admitted they needed to get the story out fast. They did little to verify and 'stole' the damaged CPU to send it to some analysis lab that came back with no conclusive results. It would be better if Amd and Asus got hold of the CPU and do failure analysis. But Guerilla Steve wanted his clickbaits, was it a surprised they also advertised their t-shirt and new channel during this saga?

Take a look at Asus low key clarification that Guerilla Steve chose to ignore.

Yeah, but no one will make a video about it.  I know Linus has an ego larger than many and has criticized GN before for video length and such, but I see bruised ego in Steve.  He declares war on NewEgg for a return issue, gets super bent about being namedropped by an engineer in the tour vid, and now must go on the attack.  He makes good points, but he's not concerned about consumers getting hurt, he's concerned and consumed by it being implied his testing and hardware isn't new.  They are both acting like kids.  They should at least pretend to have a cage-match like Musk and Zuck and be done with it.

Okay, I've watched and read everything I can on this topic. My two cents is this:

The billet labs video and decision Linus made on retesting it makes complete sense to me and I don't really understand the criticism. If it costs $800 and can only cool last generations GPU, then no one should be buying it. The more important take away from that video is that billet labs had a cool idea that could be turn into a good product in future, not that they had a good product now. I will say that I would have liked to see the product tested with a 3090 but only for entertainment purposes as I felt the exact numbers wouldn't have mattered to anyone and I personnally felt it was made clear that this prototype would work well with the 3090.

As for accidentally auctioning off the cooler prototype. My family owns and operates a small to medium business with a roughly similar employee count (100-150) to that of LMG. From watching my father run this business for 10+ years, It has become clear to me that no one in a business of that scale can control everything and some miscommunitcation is totally unavoidable. Is it great that LMG has accidentally sold the prototype, no. Is it worth burning them down over, also no. From what I can see LTT has offered to compensate Billet, if they do that I'm happy.

As for increased errors in videos, this seems a valid critism of LTT at this time. I'm not sure it's enough to warrent a thread quite this long but I guess it is good we are talking about it.

Overall, I'd say "can we all calm down a bit"

Yo guys take a look at how many people have joined and signed up to the forums just to comment on this specific thread. Look at how many of them were never interested in joining a forum but happily watched Linus and are now extremely disappointed with his actions.

Right back at you. There's nothing that could convince you that what gamers Nexus did was a low blow and questionable journalistic ethics because he's the journalistic equivalent of YouTube's golden boy. He can do no wrong. There's no possible way he has an ego problem or an agenda this talking head on YouTube presents himself in such a genuine way. There's no possible way he's doing the exact thing. He's accusing others of it. That never happens right?

Here we run into the problems with absolutes folks there are no absolutes putting the troll hat down for a minute because honestly this is getting tiresome Linus absolutely handled this as poorly as humanly possible, but they were also completely blindsided by somebody that was out to get some reactions and cause some drama. Who is intentions were not genuine. If you need proof of that then again why what didn't gamers Nexus reach out? They didn't even give LMG a single full business day to respond to the bilillet labs issue they went behind their back on a weekend with an opinion piece so they could sell the rest of their video to their audience. That is about a scummy as you can get

I never said he should "let it slide."

LMG did not put their credibility in "jeopardy." It was one employee, who got his facts wrong, who was in a 20 second clip on a Twitter post. There wasn't an hour long video about Gamers Nexus attacking the company as a whole on the LTT Channel. I didnt even hear about it until now, same with plenty of others. Gamers Nexus could've replied to the post, they could've reached out to Linus directly as Linus is very quick to fix and resolve things, but they didnt. They pitifully lit a community on fire hoping for their competition to go with it. This isnt a fun and nifty topic, this is bad.

LMG didn't need to reach out for comment, this was a stupid 30 second rant by an employee, not a hour long documentary.

Yes LMG needs to improve and receive valid criticism. As us all humans need to. But lighting his community on fire and making him and his entire company questionable does nothing but harm. Read this forums comment section. People are outraged and pissed and are canceling their subscriptions and attacking Linus and his "shills." Again, over a short clip on Twitter by a random employee. This whole thing is ridiculous. This wasn't journalism nor criticism, this was a successful attempt to recreate past drama and hopefully burn the company down with it so there won't be as much competition with GN over a stupid clip on Twitter, which again, could've been cleared up very quickly and easily. Linus didn't use his time and money with writers and editors to make a movie length attack on GN, this whole thing is because of a clip on Twitter... Absolutely pathetic.

The simple, TL;DR, is that Gamers Nexus needed extra fries with his salt.

That  makes sense That's about the time where he started focusing on pushing out these finger waving opinion pieces instead of actual usable reviews because controversy sells views data doesn't if you can't see that he has a serious ego problem then there's no point in continuing to discussion with you because you'll never understand the problem look at it from a business perspective. What does he gain? He gains a quick burst of views and activity. He makes his competitor look bad and because He's had success with this kind of adversarial douchebaggery in the past people defend it
