So not use Manjaro (it sucks, I am going to go back to Mint soon), I have had good experiences with Mint, no clue about Kali.

Nah 10g is fine. Max 25g but that would have to be SFP+. Would prefer to stick with 10g and keep my switch SFP free though. Ill check em out.

They made Hyberbackup to another Synology worse too (I think a new DSM thing), you cant specify credentials before hitting log in. It makes you authenticate at a login page first. Like why?

Synology keeps removing long held features with each software update.
This time they have removed your ability to see drive's SMART numbers.

OK so ive got workstation 17 Pro fired up. Is your ethernet and wireless card built into the motherboard on your PC, or is one a USB adapter?
I cant say my case is similar to yours as my laptop only has built in wireless and I have a USB ethernet adapter. Im reversing the roles of our adapters.

It looks there isnt an option for PCI Passthrough in Workstation like there is in ESXi (You can pass through any PCI device, in our case the wireless card). So you will have to settle for bridging.

Assuming it is not a USB wireless card, do this-
Start by editing the virtual network:
In workstation, go to the Edit tab and select Virtual Network Editor Select Change Settings in the lower right corner Go back to Edit > Virtual Network Editor Locate and select the network with type "bridged". Note the adapter name. Mine is VMnet0 Under VMnet Information, select the drop down next to 'Bridged to' and choose your wireless adapter Select Apply and OK Now apply that to your VM:
Select the VM tab > Settings Under hardware, select Network Adapter Under Network Connection, select 'Bridged', or use the Custom dropdown to select the Virtual Network name of the bridged adapter (VMnet0) Hit OK. If your VM Doesnt get a network connection, follow steps 1-3 again but also check the 'replicate physical network connection state' box. This will make the wireless adapter appear as an ethernet adapter. You will need to connect to the wifi on your computer to get the VM on the internet.

If it is USB, Go to VM tab and select Removable devices, choose your wireless card out of the list. This will remove it from the host (your computer) and make it appear directly connected to the VM.

    Hope this helps

TubsAlwaysWins got a reaction from Lurick in How to make different networks appear as one network?
One building or multiple? If one, you just need a router that can make VLANs and a switch you can configure VLAN's in. If its multiple site, get a router for each site and make a IPSec tunnel between them or something.

Think of SIP accounts as extensions. You can have multiple extensions on one phone.
Look into 3cx. You can host it yourself or have 3cx host it. No VLANs required unless you want the phones on a different subnet compared to the rest of the network. Licensing cost depends on number of extensions, simultaneous calls, etc. You could set up a Hosted 3cx instance, install a SBC (Session Border Controller) at each location, and the provision your phones to the SBC and they can dial each other. This is what we do at work.

If you self-host I think you can user Direct SIP-STUN provisioning and you dont need to install a SBC at each location. Just give 3cx the MAC address and it will provision the phone (Depending on model). Id suggest using Yealink phones as ive had the most luck with them.

Then you buy or port your numbers to a SIP provider like Flowroute, and tell flowroute to route to your 3cx instance. If you self host you will need a Static WAN IP to assign to the PBX. If you host through 3cx, they will give you one.

Yes you need a PBX, this would be something like 3cx. Grandstream also has some but I dont like them.

Happy to help with any 3cx questions you have

Throughput is all about the same.

If it's just a direct connection between the boxes without a switch, go with DACs. If you're connecting through a switch (or think you may need to in the future), go with fiber.

They are in the same rack located in a datacenter. Its used for legitimate backups, not just hobby. And yeah SFP is cheap. I think we are less concerned with price (to an extent) and more about throughput.

IMO go buy some used Dell poweredge servers. You can get lots of cores (VMs like cores), lots of RAM, and sometimes lots of storage for not alot of money. Gives you the feeling like you are doing things legitimatly since you get Xeons, ECC, and SAS.
Biggest downsides are they are heavy, consume electricity, and can be loud. They work well as white noise or space heaters though.
Not sure what power consumption is for the standard PC, but my R610 consumes ~120W at idle.
IMO Wish I got a R720 or something for 3.5" HDDs.

I got a steal when i bought mine, but I got 3 R610s, 5 Xeons, ~80GB RAM, a switch, and a 2 post rack for $80. I sold one, broke another while trying to get a GPU in a 1U server, and still have the other.

I cant speak for 4G. I was employed at a WISP for a few years and consider myself to be proficient in Wireless PtP and PtMP equipment, specifically Ubiquity and can try and answer any questions you might have about it. I dont know power consumption but It depends on what radios you are using. Alot of consumer stuff is rated at 24v 0.5A (~12W?). Depends on what speed you need to get out of it. I cant suggest a WISP due to not knowing your location. They should show up on lists around town.  Im not sure what Self-hosted means, im assuming becoming your own ISP? Connections you can resell to others are very expensive. I think we paid almost 2k/mo for our 1Gig ATT link. The closest thing I can think of is buying or renting some place in the town you have line of site to, sending the internet connection there, and then using PtP back to your location? Goes back to option 2.  Starlink would probably be a good option if there are no WISP's in your area. Probably what I would do.

Unless there is a sender nearby for this stuff thats not gonna really work out.

Id say starlink is the safest bet for this stuff even if it isnt the most efficient. Neither would the other options be since you would still need to power a decently powerfull antenna
