  1. its encoding performance is on 3060 level and for a much better price. if you do light video editing it is a good deal.
  2. nvidia has been increasing prices of their cards since 20 series. i pointed this out in 2018 when i graphed nvidias prices over time. 20 and 30 series they moved everything up a price bracket. for example the price of the 2060 at launch was just $30 short of the 1070's launch price. around that time is when the first crypto caused shortage happened. it is no wonder that with this second crypto caused shortage that they are increasing prices again. and on top of that they are trying to also hide behind different ram accounts like they did with the 1060. i have made a new gpu comparison. i don't think the 4080 12gb is actually a 4060. rather i think they are trying to put the 4090 on a pedestal. this however does not excuse the pricing or intentionally misleading naming at all.
  3. this and i will probably upgrade my gpu next. i was going to get a 4080 but those prices are insane.
  4. i have 280hz monitors and i would like to use them. currently i'll get about 60fps in war thunder. if i close everything it jumps to 90fps. with a better cpu all my background applications can stay open and not affect performance like they do now and i could get higher fps and actually use the monitors i have to the fullest.
  5. ik chrome tabs are a ram thing, but when i only have 4 cores/8 threads chrome running as a background task with that many tabs and probably a yt video playing does drop my fps. in fallen order at 1080p low i get stutters. i close everything they go away. I used to have a 4690k which didn't have hyper threading, and i would get stutters in valorant as well. even while my avg fps was about 150. i upgraded to a 4790k for cheap and it went away. i also have edge and firefox open at the same time (each running like 10 tabs max) so i can have different accounts open on websites i use a lot at the same time. (ik its a stupid system and i could probably change it with different chrome profiles but it works for me and i don't feel like changing it). thats why i am looking at the higher end chips like the 7950x, 13900k. the only reason i am considering the 5800x3d is its really good single threaded performance for its price.
  6. Budget (including currency): uncertain how much i am willing to spend yet Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Chrome (450-500 tabs), War Thunder, Valorant, Fallen Order, OBS, Premiere Pro Other details My main rig is currently running on a 4790k. its overclocked to 4.5Ghz. i have 32gb of ram, a gtx 1080, a arctic liquid freezer II 280 (rev.4), evga ex650g. I have been running this system since about 2014. I can play the games i play at 1080p just fine but it feels like i am at the upper limit. I am one of those people who has hundreds of chrome tabs open at once. it for sure affects my gaming performance. i feel as more intensive games come out i won't be able to play them without closing everything and putting it on low. So i want to upgrade. i held off on ryzen 5000 because i knew ryzen 7000 was going to be a new platform and i didn't want to "get stuck" on an older platform. i didn't upgrade my cpu for so long for two reasons, ddr4 was expensive for a while and until intel's 9th gen/ryzen 3000 the performance was enough to get me to upgrade. now with both companies moving to ddr5 platforms it would be nice to have so i don't get stuck with an old ddr gen again. My dilemma comes in with 7000 high temps and high price. If i am going to upgrade i would want the top chip the 7950x but it seems like it wouldn't be great to cool with my 280mm AIO. if der8auer's deliding experiment leads deliding 7000 easy with that 20C drop i think i could pull it off with my current cooler. The high price of not only the cpu but the motherboards and ram also makes me hesitant to upgrade. while i can go to a microcenter where they are offering a free 32gb kit of ddr5 with every 7000 chip, it still is a little hard to swallow. I know i could wait for a B series board but i think that microcenter promotion might be over by then and the cheaper board would be canceled out by having to buy ram. Another option is to go for ryzen 5000. the 5800x3d performed very well against ryzen 7000 in gaming. ik it only has half the threads of the 7950x but still, that gaming performance plus a cheap platform is very enticing. the only problem is that my only upgrade path would be getting a 5950x. and i would be stuck with ddr4. The last option i see is intel 13th gen. i am buying anything until those reviews come out but if they are competitive with rzyen 7000 for what might be a lower price it makes it hard to go amd. My only problem with this that i refuse to upgrade to windows 11. i am sticking with windows 10. but that means reduced performance because windows 10 doesn't handle the e core p core allocation well. I doubt it every will so microsoft can force more people onto 11. To recap i want to upgrade from my 4790k and want to get the most out of it. my choices i am considering are ryzen 7000, 5800x3d, intel 13th gen. each with their own pros and cons. I would like to know what you would do in my shoes.
  7. this computer was originally for my grandfather and served him well for many years. then when my uncle got him a new monitor and tried to plug it in the computer won’t boot. he didn’t want to troubleshoot it so he sent back to me. fast forward 6 months i am repurposing it for a friend. to refurbish it i bought new ram, psu, ssd and was swapping in a know working cpu. And i am still getting the same issue. it some times turns on (fans spin, lights come on and dvd drive spins) but no picture is displayed and usb ports aren’t powered. this happens both on the igpu and dgpu. and other times it just won’t turn on at all. one time when i hit the power switch on the back of psu the leds on my keyboard flashed. but it didn't turn on. Things i have tried swapping cpu, ram, psu, gpu clearing cmos new cmos battery unplugging all usb, audio, wifi, sata devices the only things i can think thats left is dead motherboard or overcurrent protection. if you can think of anything else i can test let me know. Old specs mobo: ASRock z87e-itx i5-4690k (could have sworn it was a g3258 but i was wrong) 8gb ddr3 1600 microcenter ram 480gb adata ssd corsair cx430 gtx 750 ti new specs same mobo different i5-4690k (from my old main rig) 16gb ddr3 ram 1tb kingston ssd evga 750 GT wax planning on getting a rtx 3060
  8. i want to upgrade my monitors this year and these two meet my requirements for size, panel type and refresh rate. however i can’t decide between them. I can’t seem to find color accuracy reviews of the dell. i would prefer to get the one with better color accuracy. they also will likely be repacked a couple times a year so they can be moved. I am really stumped on which on to pick.
  9. i am editing multi hour twitch vods so 5-10% is pretty significant. does 9th gen have a limit of 3600 like ryzen or can you get 4000 easily?
  10. i'm building a rig to for video editing. for now its just going to be a 9900K doing all the work until used gpu prices fall. but the machine will only working with h.264 video and very light effects like cross fade to black in premiere. I have some extra ddr4 ram in another system. i am pretty sure its 2666 or something around there. I can get a newer kit that can hit 3600 but i don;t know if its worth it. I know ryzen likes faster memory but i have no idea about 9th gen intel.
  11. its running a sandy bridge i3. when win 10 came out i tried upgrading but it wouldn’t let me. hp does not have drivers for win 10. the laptop is super slow. i don’t want to invest in a 2.5”ssd when in a few years it might not have enough power to do anything. budget is around $1k but i think i can go up to $1.5k
  12. I am looking for a new laptop to replace my old HP Pavilion G6-1d73us (2011). I carry it and the power brick in my backpack. it weighs 6lbs in total. it worked fine for the past 3 years of college. however windows 7 held me back and wouldn’t load an office 365 excel file in my chem lab. i need a laptop that runs windows 10. I will mostly be using this laptop to run chrome and office, but i will also use it to make YT thumbnails with photoshop. I am on campus from 9-5 and having the battery last all day with about 2-4 hours of screen on time would be nice. my current laptop is 15” but its the size of current 17” laptops. I would highly prefer to have a color accurate display, 2 usb A ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a numbpad. 1080p would be nice but it doesn’t have to 16:9. I haven’t watched the laptop space so i greatly appreciate your help.
  13. I run two vod channels for streamers and i am trying to set up watch folders that export the vod and then upload it to youtube. however when i tried to log into the second account on the second watch folder it logged me put if the first account on the first watch folder. is there a work around for this or is this an intended feature?
  14. For future readers of this post. I have found a solution. I can export the project using Adobe Media Encoder. They way i am going to set this up is using a watch folder(tutorial on watch folders) to automatically export the project on another computer and with AME it can also upload to youtube immediately. the watch folder is a shared folder that both pcs can access. i do all the editing work i need to do in premiere on my computer then save the project file. then i can copy that file to the folder and bamb the other computer starts exporting. then when i am done with the source files i can just transfer them to long term storage.
  15. if you mean having the streamer also locally record than that is not an option. that requires the streamers to be tech literate which they are not. plus it would require them to have computers that can do that without impacting performance. it would be nice for copyright reasons but that is just not realistic. the quality of the vods are fine. they are exactly as its streamed, so its not really a concern of mine. and for prores i would have to use handbrake or media encoder to make it an h.264 file for youtube right. when i uploaded a h.265 vod by accident it took 2 days to the video processed for HD so it was 360p for viewers Also since there is a lack of gpus fo you think software rendering on a 3700x would be enough?
  16. i get them from twitch not the streamer. whatever codec twitch uses. does prores use the hardware encoder on the gpu or is it software based because then it might be slower because i only have a 4790k
  17. well i download the vods from twitch and edit them directly i don’t know what codec they are in. but i export in h.264 so the processing time on youtube is as short as possible so i can get the video up within 24hrs of the stream. if i do try copying the project over would i have to also move the source files? because at that point it just seems easier to remote in or use a kvm
  18. I run vod channels for a couple streamers. When i do have to edit them its usually just to remove copyrighted stuff. But when i do this it still takes a long time to render which means i can’t use my computer. i have a 4790k OC and a gtx 1080 and i use hardware encoding. but a vod can take anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hours to render just because of how long they are. Is there a way to edit it on my main pc then have another on the network computer render it for me? i know lmg does something like that but they have 10gig everywhere and a bunch of servers. and i haven’t seen a video of how they process their videos. most of what they told is high level like “we ingest here then gets transcoded on a server then our editors can use edit. Then its transcoded against before being uploaded to youtube and float plane”. i’m not well versed in this kinda of stuff and the only other options i see is to remote into a computer, use a kvm or an entirely separate setup
  19. i tried to log into my google account and it asks me to verify with 2 factor. I do it goes through then asks me to reset my password. so i did. that logged me out of my mobile device. but when i try to log in it keeps me in a verifications loop. then i tried accessing youtube studio and it asks for verification. this is happening to multiple accounts i own on different internet connections. youtube's support is useless to all hell. everyone else seems to be complaining about their videos being deleted but mine still look to be there if i search my channel. i can't find anyone else in this situation. i can't call a customer service rep because they don't have a listed phone number. I don't know what to do anymore please help
  20. The router we have now, a linksys ea7450, bit the dust this week and I have been tasked in picking a new router since i'm the tech guy. the linksys we had had a terrible UI making hard to find settings in their effort to make the UI simpler for the average consumer. What i would like is something that makes it easy to setup static ips and port forward. do you guys have any recommendations.
  21. I know you can use a gtx or quadro in premiere but what about Tesla cards? they have no video outputs. in a recent level1tech video they showed using them for gaming and i was wonder if they could be used for video editing.
