KickinGravy got a reaction from shadowbyte in Stick with 6900k or go Ryzen 1800x
IMO stick with the 6900k, the X99 platform has been around for some years now so you wont have to deal with with the newness of AM4. As time passes we will see bugs ironed out of AM4, but as it stands now, stick with X99.

KickinGravy got a reaction from Blackhole890 in GTX 980 Ti vs 1070/1080
The 980ti is still an excellent card to own, if you can buy one for half a 1070, why not.

KickinGravy reacted to paps511 in GTX 980 Ti vs 1070/1080
I run a 3440x1440 monitor, so my frame rates are a bit skewed, but full details GTAV would do the benchmark at about 50fps. Thats with max settings.
Recently I have been playing project cars in 3440x1440 and it stays above 60 except when I cause massive crashes.
If you can get a 980Ti discounted, for a chunk less than a 1070, DO IT!
That said, 1080s will run 4k 60 in a bunch of games. My 980Ti will NOT
1080s are about 30% better than 980Tis

Not looking for a laptop that can work under water or anything, just something that can withstand coffee be split on it every so often (sadly very often, he never learns.)

KickinGravy reacted to othertomperson in Can you disable "Cortana" after Windows 10 anniversary update?
Not really. Directx9 games can be run pretty well within Wine, the major roadblock for Linux currently is Directx11 and 12. If games decide that limiting their audience to only Windows 10 owners is too much and want Windows 7 users (ie most people) to be able to access their games then the games will run inherently on Linux (or at least be very easily portable) pretty much automatically.
Remember as well why I haven't bothered to even mention Directx10? Because nothing fucking used it. Why? It was Windows Vista exclusive, and people made it abundantly clear what they thought of that. OS exclusivity is how you kill an API.
Look if we can get to a point where people are running Windows because they choose to because it's good, and not because they have to because Microsoft have a monopoly then I don't see what there is to complain about. There are things that Windows 10 does well. Scaling, for instance. I don't know of a desktop environment where I could have three monitors, all different sizes, a mix of resolutions all with completely different scaling settings and have the whole thing not fall apart. Windows 10 manages this surprisingly perfectly. Windows needs more of this, and less "we are going to data mine you to oblivion because lmfao where are you going to go, Apple!?"

KickinGravy reacted to Glenwing in GPU for maxing games @ 1080p60
Honestly I don't think there is any such thing as overkill on the graphics card. Games get more demanding all the time. Even if a graphics card is "just right" for maxing games at 1080p, it has just enough power as you need, I think that is a very short term view and it will not last. Games released in the future will be more difficult to run, so as much breathing room as you can get is good if you want your GPU investment to last a while. Even my dual 780 Ti cannot maintain 60fps stable at 1080p on Witcher 3 max settings, even with Hairworks off.

KickinGravy reacted to Energycore in My Horrible experience with Corsair customer service
Aaaand it's borked for night theme.
I came here expecting Customer Service to actually be bad. Instead, you missed a promo and wrote to them asking for free stuff.
Think about what would happen to Corsair if they obliged. Suddently anyone who didn't purchase said promo can appeal that they should get one too, and Corsair would have to give free stuff to every person who purchased their RAM. Not gonna happen. It is what it is.

KickinGravy got a reaction from JuztBe in HyperX Cloud II
They are very comfy, I worn them one time for almost 18 hours straight. Very light on your head, and they stay on even if I shake my head. Also they breath very nicely if you use the valuer ear cups.

KickinGravy got a reaction from ristan99 in First timer making a new desktop
X99 is enthusiast grade chipset, based on 2011-3 socket. Better for video editing and streaming, 3d rendering and such. Better than skylake in those regards, but skylake better at gaming ever so slightly. Something to note is that X99 chipset will be on broadwell and maybe skylake as well in a few years, so upgrading on X99 will be viable if you so choose.

KickinGravy got a reaction from DutchTexan in I think this will be my first computer
Always leave room for overhead when it comes to psu's, 850 watts is fine and leaves room for upgrades in the future. Keep in mind a good psu can last you 10-15 years

KickinGravy got a reaction from ThatSoundGuy in First timer making a new desktop
Things you need to ask your self when building a new PC.
-How much money am I willing to spend
-What will I be using my PC for (gaming, video editing, rendering, ect)
-What display resolution will I be using
These are some of the main things you should be thinking about (there are alot of others to think of, but those 3 are a good starting point)

No it isn't, it is Z170 chipset. Z170 is more consumer grade compared to X99. But as i said if i were spending $2500 on a new system, I would look at X99.
