  1. Good morning/evening/afternoon fellow techies, I have a dilemma: Upgrade or No? As you all know nVidia is about to drop what they have dubbed a "BFGPU" we all know as the RTX 3090. I will be purchasing said BFGPU on the 17th when it drops. However, I am wondering if I should upgrade my CPU from Ryzen 7 2700x to Ryzen 7 3700x? Here is my current PC build, keep in mind I will be replacing the motherboard with MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI AM4 USB 3.1 AMD Motherboard PCIe Gen 4: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 32 GB (16 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Storage: Western Digital Black NVMe 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Storage: SanDisk SSD PLUS 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB SEA HAWK X Video Card Case: Corsair Crystal 570X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply <======= Might need to grab 750w if this PSU can't pull the 3090 This is mainly a gaming PC. Majority of the time I play on 1440p but occasionally I switch to my 4k TV, grab a controller and enjoy some couch time. Obviously the GTX 3090 is a pricey piece of equipment, add the mobo and I am in the hole for about $1700 post tax. Would be nice if I didn't have to spend extra $300 on a new CPU too. What do y'all think?
  2. Hello everyone. I have a VG278Q (27inch, Full HD, 1ms, 144Hz). I was interested in getting two monitors that I can align vertically next to this main one and have them flush with this main monitor. The purpose is for work mainly so that I can add extra information on the sides that I might need to access while working on the main one. I know it's odd to try to make this happen but I have limited desk space and I don't need full sized side monitors. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would love the setup to look something like this image bellow:
  3. Like I said, I done goofed. I overlooked that the mobo was a mini. Thanks for the feedback.
  4. Hello fellow techies!!! I recently built a new rig and I done goofed. Before I go into details, here are the part lists: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor ($279.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Corsair - H100i RGB PLATINUM 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($159.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI - B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard ($126.00 @ Amazon) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($262.97 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital - Black NVMe 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($104.99 @ Amazon) Storage: SanDisk - SSD PLUS 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($107.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB SEA HAWK X Video Card ($1129.99 @ B&H) Case: Corsair - Crystal 570X ATX Mid Tower Case ($129.98 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA NEX 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro French CDN - DVD 64-bit Monitor: Asus - VG278Q 27.0" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor ($288.65 @ Amazon) Total: $2590.55 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-06-08 21:16 EDT-0400 The issue is that the Corsair - H100i has these nice 120mm ML PRO Series RGB fans that come with it, which is all groovy except the part where when I pop the radiator on the top of the case (Corsair - Crystal 570X), add the mother board (MSI - B450I GAMING PLUS) then pop in the RAM (Corsair - Vengeance) the second fan towards the front of the case on the radiator fits flawlessly while the first location on the radiator is too close to the RAM and thus I can't fit the 120mm ML PRO Series fan on it. At the moment I am running this set up with just one fan on that radiator which seems to work OK, idle temps are around 33C while gaming is somewhere between 40 and 50, but I guesstimate that running only one fan on a cooling system designed to utilize two isnt a good idea. So, fellow techies, which solutions do you propose I attempt at this silly dilemma that I have created and am now faced with? Whiles I would love to utilize the 120mm ML PRO Series fan on above mentioned radiator, I don't this will be possible unless I either find RAM with shorter height clearance or a different motherboard that has its RAM slots located further away from the edge of the board. Is there some sort of a (preferrably RGB and Corsair - H100i compatible) fan that I can fit on top of that radiator which will allow me to clear the RAM? Here is a picture of the mobo with RAM in it and then inside the case, although it is hard to see where the top radiator spot is without a fan:
  5. Guessing this would be the one you are suggesting?: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYZYPYH/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_Zp8FCb2FGNMYN Looks pretty simple and straight to the point. Wonder if this is indeed the best choice. Seems there is a newer version of that keyboard and it doesn't have the macro key. Why do they keep removing macro keys? ARGH!
  6. Hello fellow tech enthusiasts/gamers/builders/etc!!! I have a keyboard but unfortunately some of the keys on it are starting to double type, few leds have gone out, and overall the keyboard seems to be on its way out. This current keyboard is the Logitech G910 Orion Spark. It has served me well but I think it is time for something better, faster, stronger, blah blah blah. There is a few thing I am looking for: 1. RGB per key lighting 2. Mechanical key (clicky clicky) 3. A few programmable macro keys (about 6) 4. Wrist rest 5. A price point up to $200 but preferably under $150 I primarily play FPS games, League and an MMO every once in a while. Need the macro keys for mic muting, streaming macros, etc. Thank you for all feedback, as always all is appreciated.
  7. Thanks you everyone for your replies.
  8. I do understand what you are saying. The monitor is going to be my secondary once I decide on a good 1440p that I will invest into in the future. I will be streaming with this rig as well.
  9. Planning on building a new PC soon. The monitor is a must and I am pretty confident with the parts I have chosen. Give me some feedback and some possible advice to maybe reduce the price but keep the build quality please. I appreciate all and any feedback. Thank you for looking. Chose the MSI SEA HAWK mainly for built-in liquid cooling and because I am a fan of MSI. Amazin is a vendor of choice because of Prime and the massive amount of business I've done with them in the past and their customer support.
  10. Wait. Should see more stock by the end of January.
  11. Cause ethereum spiked and its become more profitable to mine. The 1080 TI are good at it, so all the filthy rich dudes who already made bank on crypto are building more machines to mine Eth.
  12. The $750 you saw on NewEgg is back-order. Dell has one for $749, called them, expect restock 4/19/18, re@#$#ingdiculous.
  13. Its f@#$ing insane. I decided to get one a week ago and was waiting for a client to pay an invoice. They went from $739 to nothing available under $900 now, if you are ok with eBay. Needless to say, I am royally pissed off. Finally decided to switch teams, and this is the shit I have to deal with. Damn miners!!!
  14. Good luck finding a 1080 TI for under $1000.
  15. ALRIGHTY!!! Got it figured out. The second socket in the wall outlet has bad wiring. Tried to plug everything, 3 PCs, router and modem, into a single newly aquired surge protector and so far no issues at all. I checked my breakers and as it turns out they are nearly all 20a glass ones, so I guess YAY?? Anyways, everything is running smoothly. Thank you all for the feedback. @scottyseng @AshleyAshes
  16. Sounds like a good idea. I will first try a better power strip and if it doesn't work then I will get an electrician out here. Thanks for the feedback.
  17. ....how does one do without rewiring? Also, one is noob when comes to zappy electricity and has no multi-meter because derp. Assuming the power draw isnt too high for the socket, could it be the power strip?
  18. The house was built in 1960s and none of the breakers have popped since we started living here.
  19. I ran EVE on highest setting on a 280x and i7-920 at about 60fps on 1080p single monitor while logged into multiple clients. The only time I had to turn settings down is when there was a huge battle going on on screen, war sized battle, not like incursions or anything.
  20. Hello fellow PC master racers!!! I gots a dilemma. I recently moved into a new home. In this new home there is a beautiful den room which seemed to be perfect for all of my family's computer needs. We have three computers, 850watt PSU on PC1, 600watt PSU on PC2 and 750watt PSU on PC3. Because my level of excitement was extremely high, I quickly started setting up all of the computer desks around the room in their predetermined areas, followed by plugging in all of the computers. Then the nightmare started! As it turns out this fantastic room only has one wall socket with two outlets in it. At first I thought "No problem, I will just run a long heavy duty extension cord to the farthest PC" and all was good with the world. BUT then the strangest things started to happen. The two computers which were plugged into the bottom outlet started shutting down on their own while the one that was plugged into the top socket was operating without any outage. My first step was to replace the power strip with another one I found in the house and this worked but I still get a random power outage on just those two PCs every once in a while. So my question is: Do I simply need a better power strip that is closer to like a heavy-duty class strip or do I need to install another power socket in the room? If all I need is a better power strip can someone suggest a good one for two PCs with single monitors, router and cable modem? The power strip that I am using right now is a small inexpensive one that holds 6 plugs with a simple reset switch but it seems to be working much better then the previous one I used which made my PCs reset like every 10 minutes. The two PCs which are plugged into the single power strip are 600watt and 750watt. I live in the US where I get 120v per outlet and I think 15A per socket as well.
  21. YOU MAJESTIC CREATURE YOU!!! Was looking all over for the last one!!! Thank you sir!!!
  22. Hehe, well some people see the price and, you know, go blind and trigger happy.
  23. Hello everyone!!! Just thought I would post this here so that none of you fall for these. Recently some people have been modding the bios on old GTX 560s to make them look like GTX 960s in CPU-Z. However, can't fake shading units, which most of these show around 336, which is incorrect for the GTX 960, they have 1024 shading units. So please be very careful when buying GPUs on both eBay and Amazon. Here are some of the examples I came across: Example 1 eBay Example 2 eBay Example 3 eBay Example 4 Amazon
  24. Simple question, which do you prefer and why?
  25. @Torna did you ever fix this issue? If you did then what was the solution?
