Hello friends, I have been trying to research this but I really could use some help from people who have done this kind of thing before. I am buying a house, and it will be ready in a few months. I would like to start piecing together the tech and electronics I need to do what I want to do in the house. Mainly, I need something to run Plex around the house (and be able to stream to at least 1 other location simultaneously), I would like a few cameras to record locally, and I would like a smart home system that I can run locally so I don't have to use Google/Amazon stuff (things like doorbells, temperature sensors, and any other random sensors I can throw in there).
I'd also like to have a 2.5gbps network around the house, split into a wired and wireless network for me and for guests separately.
My current plex media server is a Ryzen 5 3600 with 16gb of DDR4 on a B450M mobo with 20TB of storage on 3 different drives. I have no other real extra gear other than my main PC. I've seen some of the LTT videos on like local cameras and networking, but UniFi seems extremely expensive for what I want (and a lot of them are sold out anyway).
I have plenty of time to amass everything I want, so I don't mind waiting and keeping my eye out for stuff. I just really need help making a checklist and a shopping list. Is there anyone that has done something similar? What software and hardware do I need? Do I need to spend so much? Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it!
