New bill might be introduced in the US after the Facebook scandal.

The new bill aims to, among other things, require users to explicitly agree and opt-in to having any personal information about them collected. So no more "it's in the EULA so it is OK".

I thought the User had to give permission to sell on/ collect your data anyway or is that different in the US? I know in the Uk you have to agree to the provider to sell on your data and you can at anytime request the removal of your information unless being used by police in an ongoing investigation or FBI equivalent sectors.

So... now there'll be a popup that says "Can we use all your data for whatever we wish? You can't use Facebook if you refuse!" and people will ignore it, just like the cookie usage notification. What Facebook was doing has always been obvious to anyone who cared to think about it for 5 minutes, all this outrage now is proof that people just don't care unless it makes the news.
