Star Citizen is a space MMO, crowdfunded project that has accumulated over $600 million and has been in development for over a decade now with no release date in sight. Although the Alpha has some interesting points, the game’s development hell has attracted a ton of controversies over the years. The Space genre is currently booming due to Starfield and more games like Star Wars Outlaws on the way. It’s the perfect time for Star Citizen to land among all the existing popularity. Over the years, Star Citizen has accumulated insanely high expectations, and the more time it takes, the higher fans’ demands and expectations will go

For contrast, i started these threads as back as a decade ago on this forum, i recall people defending and being angry at the posts regarding Star Citizen's critique saying that it is common for a game to take years of development, do people still have the same belief?

This is an old thing. i think this has been debated to the end, like also the sexual harrasment case (with that 3d print youtuber, i think she is called YU) there is no evidence in anything. there is indications, so this is completely different thing that what is being discussed here.

there is also always two sides, are the load too high, or are the work ethics too low. i think it can be hard to get to the bottom of this.

I'm gonna ignore the dumb arguments above, but I will state that it's been over a month since any LMG staffer replied to any complaint posted here.  I really hope that this valuable resource isn't abandoned, but the way things are right now it's certainly at least functionally on ice (whether intentional or not).

To summarize some of the stuff happening here since the last LMG post:

    - Multiple issues with Secret Labs' chairs having armrest failures, and their support handling the issue in extremely poor/incompetent/malicious? ways.
    - Volta withholding tracking information unless you sign up for marketing texts, also general product functionality/quality issues (including melting plugs).
    - Asus warranty issues, lots of them; along with general quality issues.  It doesn't look like they learned their lesson after the motherboard warranty debacle.
    - iFixit not responding to a security vulnerability disclosure (seems like process error rather than anything malicious, but hopefully someone at LMG can poke the correct people to get it fixed).  Also another person had issues with iFixit EU printing a shipping label wrong then blaming the carrier.
    - eBay deceptive marketing? of their refurbished devices by comparing them to artificial "MSRP" prices rather than real-world New prices (which are very often around the same price as eBay's refurbished devices.)
    - EyeBuyDirect selling fake "blue light filtering" glasses
    - One person has had a multi-year Ultra Nightmare experience with HP
    - Best Buy racist?  Allegedly excluding people from internal training programs based on their race.
    - Thorum price complaints (~10x price compared to similar products from other sources), also some users complaining about them using real dinosaur fossils (though I think it was already addressed elsewhere in this thread that these fossils were not useful to scientists).

@LinusTech@CPotter I think much of the community (including myself) is hoping to see the silence broken and these issues resolved/looked into/at least acknowledged.  After all, what good is a sponsor complaints thread if those complaints are never seen?  I'm hoping things just got thrown off because of the craziness of LTX, but either way, I hope things can be gotten back on track now.

I don't threaten, it's completely ridiculous, and if you are that upset, you should just leave.
But things like this absolutely decides how I look at the company. Linus has build this company on his reputation, and while each has their own view on the legitimacy of that claim, I could at least usually get where he was coming from, even if I disagreed with it, like the whole 'trust me bro' stuff. But here I see none of that, all I see is them shilling for a massive corporation, giving no context or alternate view on this, while the deals being offered are mediocre at best, and a complete rip off at it's worst.

We all fuck up, but they are not showing they fucked up, and since Linus is usually fairly open about it, I cannot conclude anything aside from them not seeing it as a fuck up. Ps the downvotes on the video are about 3-5 times as high as other recent vids on that channel, I know I'm not alone in this.

Might I add, since Taran and Brandon leaving LTT, the camera work has been worse. The tech linked episodes with the new green screen tech, the hosts are so dully lit and who ever the editor isn't even increasing the brightness... Like wtf?

For the large majority, GN is correct. The thing that sticks out to me has been the extremely large increase in * corrections. * this and * that. They need to let their foot off the gas a little. They're moving too fast and breaking things too quickly, catch my drift?

However, in my personal opinion, part of the video, in regard to sponsorship, seemed a bit more personally driven, rather than fact-based. But besides that, LTT needs to ensure accurate data. I will 100% back that.

Hopefully, Linus and LTT will take a moment to reflect before rushing to any statements or any off-handed remarks on the WAN show on Friday.

    Linus Media Group response:
    https://youtu.be/0cTpTMl8kFY

    From the video
«The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility»

„This video is not monetized. This video covers our serious concerns regarding the data accuracy of Linus Media Group, including Linus Tech Tips, ShortCircuit, and TechQuickie, particularly as it relates to rushing content out the door to favor -- by staff's own admission -- quantity over quality. As the company continues to expand into its LTT Labs direction, the importance of accurate data increases; however, even as 'only' entertainment, there are still certain responsibilities to the consumer and the manufacturers to report fairly (and to have defined corrections processes in place). We tried to approach this as objectively as possible and hope that viewers are able to listen to the evidence we present, particularly as it relates to significant and frequent data errors that now present in nearly every technical review video.“

While GN has some good feedback, sometimes it feels like they are disingenuous and create a narrative that does not resonate with what I see from LMG.

Read:  I agree with most of the problems raised in the video, but not everything is 100% the way it is portrayed.

Furthermore, I have the impression that some points, such as statements that lead people to believe that Linus is railroading creators or that the Chief of Labs is utterly unfit for the job, are probably not accurate and not deserved.

To reiterate:  I am not discounting some other points that Steve has made.

Some other uninformed criticism is about alleged conflicts of interest when reviewing laptops while the company is an investor in Framework.

This insinuation is also not entirely accurate.

In trying to set the record straight, GN has fallen prey to inaccuracies in some of their claims. «The pot is calling the kettle black» situation.

I believe that the issues that GN raises are valid and should be taken on board to improve the quality and accuracy of the content.

There are some other allegations that, if true, are very concerning.

We need a frank official response from LMG. The next WAN show is going to be spicy.

The sponsor for your latest techquickie video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ2XkN2EG1M)is ill advised and outright sketchy. There is no product, only an IndieGoGo campaong with nothing but renders and photoshop. Notably IndieGoGo does not have the same protections in place as platforms like Kickstarter. How in the world are you going to be credible but not offering crowdfunding or pre-orders on LLT store and then advertise something like this. It would be one thing if it was a  crowd funding campaign from a reputable source that has done this type of thing before but it is not. The company is a no-name Chinese brand like Ranvoo, the kind of company name that gets put on and pulled from websites only to come up as a different name. The product itself looks to be a reskinned ineffective fan cooler that you get on Alibaba (Proof: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2023-Amazon-Best-Seller-Portable-Air_1600758836866.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.normal_offer.d_title.71015686iV0XKZ ). Please guys, I love your stuff and your team but this is a big no-go. I don't know how this got approval but this is bad and effective processes should have caught this. I really hope you can make this right and recover your reputation. A number of comments on the video echo my sentiment here.

TLDR: The latest techquickie sponsor is bad and reflect poorly on you. I point this out because I care about you guys and your reputation.

A - show me the reprimand. I'll wait. I stated a fact and said 'be aware of the impact'.

B - you are ignoring the common sense aspect of this. We make money by producing content and being paid through ads
He makes money through businesses validating their hardware. We never actually used the software for its 'commercial use'. All we did was demonstrate how to use it. We fired it up once and havent touched it since. It's very clearly a flawed parallel you're drawing.

Here comes another explanation of how I was wrong without watching what I said

I never said it was a crime to use AdBlock on YouTube (or in general). I agreed the choice of the word piracy was poor.

I said people need to be aware of the consequences of their actions. That's it.

Not paying for shit has consequences.

I'm not positioning myself as a moral or ethical authority, but I'm at least trying to do better every day. I'm sure as hell doing better than the people arguing with me about this.

Me: sorry my bad. Here's payment for your work.

Why do people keep arguing with me about things I clearly don't disagree with.

In *my* post I said we (inadvertently, which is no excuse) engaged in software piracy and I apologized and bought a license. Why are you trying to convince me that we did?

HOWEVER, the norm (acknowledged by the developer... ) in the industry is to seed copies of many kinds of software to media outlets for the purposes of showcasing or reviewing them. Those media outlets are NOT the target market, but they have occasional uses for it and a captive audience of potential customers.

You can be upset by that, but unless the target market for the software IS creatives (like Adobe would never seed us a license, for example because we are their target customer) then creatives will just use something else for their video and you'll miss out on sales to people who actually NEED your software.

I don't make the rules here, and I've already taken steps to ensure that we seek permission rather than forgiveness going forward. Not much else I can do at this point.
