So the new video codec gets the go-ahead...from the initial reports it's actually quite promising. Much smaller video file sizes and lower bandwidth, especially at higher resolutions. But all this at the cost of increased decoding/encoding processing requirements (at least for now). My guess is it'll take a full year to implement H.265 into new hardware, but this would make 1080p and 4K video content more widespread. Hello 4K smart TVs, monitors, consoles and games....YAY!!!

w_km got a reaction from Beskamir in Who is your favorite game developer?
As someone in the "lurking stages" of PC gaming (debating on building a powerful rig or going with a laptop for school) I have a unique view on this.  I've always played several games from Star Wars to Counterstrike to Diablo to EA sport games, and while they all have their positive qualities, the negatives are kinda disappointing.  For the FPS games, where the hell are the real-world physics promised years ago???  For Blizzard and many MMOs (SWTOR comes to mind), where is the open world we desire???  For EA, where are the improved graphics/human movements?? With the combination of limited time and poor overall games, I can't recommend a single developer or major title since the likes of EA's Tiger Wood's PGA Tour 2005?, Biizzard's Diablo II/Expansion, Star Wars Galaxies (the first few years were pretty epic).

With that said, everything I've seen from Chris Roberts and Company in the making of Star Citizen looks AWESOME!!!
    1.  Unlike most developer's financial structure, the vast majority of Star Citizen funding goes directly into game content.
    2.  The community is already gathering pre-alpha, and it's massive.
    3.  We will play an active role in the game's development, testing newly released content before the official game is released.
    4.  The dev team is relatively small and feeds off user suggestion/criticism while guiding the game with their expertise.
    5.  The funds are being spent on practical, long-term tools for ongoing content creation (in-house motion capture).
    6.  Design, graphics, expansive/open world are already impressive.

IMO, this game (and the team/community behind it) give us all to prepare proper PC gaming setups in the next couple years.

Have you considered the cost?  What about the constant UV rays breaking down the barrier? Or the heat resistance? Or the adhesion to roof shingles?  Or the fact that leaky roofs are easily prevented with proper maintenance?  Just sayin

I actually haven't found a truly great use for this type of waterproof spray.  It doesn't seem to hold up very well on outdoor clothing.

That is why I cried when the new design came out... not a fan.
I love my U2410. Such high built quality. Looks professional and sleek. What I like about it, is how Dell did everything to hide the usual monitor sticker(s) about manufacturing date, bar code, serial number, revision, power info, and all that, by putting all that info in a slide out small panel right next to the USB ports and media card reader (see picture above, you don't see the panel). So that it follows regulations, but doesn't ruin the design.

    This is the back.

So if you have an desk, where it's in the middle of the room, the monitor looks nice on it.
The power LED is a very soft blue LED so it's doesn't distract you at all, even if you look at it. And the on screen menu buttons illuminates as you bring your finger close to the monitor, so that you know where it is so that you can press it, and all navigation button illuminates as well. And the on screen menu is semi transparent (transparency level is adjustable) and looks really nice.

You know it's the little details that all adds up, and make something awesome in the end.

Let me clarify some things. Noctua is releasing two new product lines relevant to this non-tan/brown color discussion.  Source: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=news_list&news_id=90

    1.  Black Industrial Fans (Q1 2014; probably louder, higher output): http://www.noctua.at/images/computex_2013/noctua_industrial_fans.jpg
"Another new addition to Noctua's line-up of premium quality quiet fans will be a range of ruggedised industrial models that feature a fibre-glass reinforced polyamide construction and IP52 class water- and dust protection for heavy-duty applications as well as a new 3-phase motor design with six poles that provides further improvements in running smoothness, even lower vibrations and further reduced power consumption."

    2. Project Redux: Two-Tone Grey Versions of Current Fans (Q3 2013; quiet, different color): http://www.noctua.at/images/computex_2013/noctua_project_redux.jpg
"In addition to the upcoming A-series and industrial fans, Noctua gave a first glimpse of its upcoming ‘project redux', a new edition of proven, award-winning models such as the NF-S12B and NF-P14 in streamlined, more accessibly priced packages. While the new A-series and industrial fans are scheduled for a release in Q1 2014, Noctua aims to release the first redux models in Q4 2013. In order to visually distinguish the new industrial and redux edition fans, industrial models will come in black and redux models will come in a light/dark grey colour scheme that mimics Noctua's original fan colours using two different shades of grey."

I am most excited to see the new grey versions.  I think it will complement a black (or white) case quite well.

    @LinusTech,

The benchmarks in the OP are essentially done at 8K resolutions as they used SSAA which upscaled the content to those resolutions but played them on a 4K screen.

How epic is that? 8K gaming is already tested. Awesome. :D

TBH you screwed up in not sending them the fans in the first place, then again in sending them the wrong fans. Chances are they are going to send you a new unit, the way you'd buy it from a shop. The fans aren't accessories, they are part of the product, you can't use them without it (unless you buy other fans of course). I didn't keep my PSU cables (or zip ties for that matter) when I needed to RMA it.

I've RMA'd with Corsair before and it took about a week from requesting RMA on their forum to getting the replacement.

    Anyway, to the question.

I don't think how much money you've given a company should mean you get preferential treatment. If you've bought something and it's happened to go bad you should just be thrown on a waiting list like anyone else, no matter how much it cost. If I buy 10 things from 'XYZ' it's not because I'm being loyal, it's because I like their product.

True, but the last 5 years are nothing like the next 5.  The internet is changing everything. In the last 5 years we've seen an EXPLOSION of video content from the internet (youtube, netflix, hulu, amazon instant video, twitch, not to mention sites like The Verge who output several hours of HD content every week).  These are huge players, and they're only going to produce more and more content.  Consider if Linus started filming and uploading ALL of his videos as 4K (and lower) on youtube (okay, so it's not officially 4K, but it probably will be when they implement the VP9/HEVC compression standards, another huge factor that is coming within 2 years), that alone is a crap ton of content.  No, it won't happen tomorrow, but by 2015? Yep.  It won't be the most used resolution by then (1080p) but it will be available.  The whole reason many laptops went from relatively high resolutions (1920x1200, 1600x1050, 1440x900) to lower resolutions (most infamously 1366x768) in 2008-2009 is because internet video was crushing the capabilities of the mobile world at that time (mainly VERY poor battery life when attempting to drive higher resolution displays).  In the last 2 years we've seen a major change back to high-res, especially in the mobile world, because the technology is here.  Even Intel is focusing on driving more pixels more efficiently with their CPUs!!!

Lastly, I expect Apple to take these changes to the living room within the next year.  And that will change everything.  Here's The Verge's latest Top Shelf video on Cable/TV, which tees up Apple for their TV launch: http://www.theverge.com/#ooid=RlbHR1YzoWnyG0yjN837GCQeRtLC5Ftz.  Apple did it with the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.  You can bet your ass they won't miss out on the transition to internet video consumption by not releasing a retina TV/monitor.  It fits well within their product stack, they're the only one's bold enough to attempt it, they just announced a tiny desktop MacPro that can run multiple 4K displays via Thunderbolt 2, and they have the money/licensing prowess to pull it off.  And the best part is that Apple lovers won't care if the "content isn't their," it doesn't matter because the content is right around the corner.  Again, when a big player like Apple starts selling thousands of 4K displays (in the next 18 months), you can expect someone to bring 4K content to those devices.

Straight to strawman? Really? My point was that you can't just threaten someone to go murder people in a school and then go "lol jk" and everything is totally fine. Just imagine if someone was out on the streets (another public forum just like a game) and shouted "I am insane and I will go to that school and kill everyone in it", then laughed, and then went "just kidding". That person would be arrested, just like this person was.
I never even implied that he made a serious comment, but you can't make a joke like that, especially not in a public forum right after the exact same thing has happened a months earlier.

So do I understand you correctly... You don't think people should be punished if they make threats, as long as it is possible to make an even more horrible threat? Because that's exactly what you are saying, and I think that sounds completely illogical.

So there should be no punishment for saying that you are insane and that you will go massacre in a school, just shortly after a massacre in a school have occurred? I wouldn't even argue that he was making a joke, because a joke is suppose to cause amusement, and I really doubt that anyone found it amusing that he threatens to kill innocent children because he is insane.
