  1. It looks like House of Kolor Marbelizer to me (sic) http://www.houseofkolor.com/
  2. Absolutely. Expensive does not always mean crap. I owned plenty of MACs up until about 2001 and they were amazing. Beautifully made and worked wonderfully
  3. Those tools are fine. The rotary tool lasted me two years and the motor was still good I just broke the chuck. I use a drill for drilling holes hammer is just one of the functions of it dude it's just a drill The workbench is ok but the top is made from MDF rather than proper timber. It doesn't matter though, it still more than serves its purpose I've upgraded my rotary tool now but only because of the chuck mech and even my new one was only £35.
  4. Would have to be MATX and shipping is £20. However I'm actually planning out an ITX build into a cylinder....
  5. I use. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-249765-Multi-Function-Rotary-Tool/dp/B000OODN8S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413048999&sr=8-1&keywords=silverline+rotary And. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-TB01-Portable-Workbench-100kg/dp/B000LFVGW0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413049018&sr=8-1&keywords=silverline+workbench And. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-265897-Hammer-Drill-500W/dp/B002QRYFGA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1413049046&sr=8-3&keywords=hammer+drill Less than £60 for all three and tbh? something no man should be without any way, regardless of modding.
  6. X8. BPM (big purple monster). TDC (The Dark Carnival) Peewee.
  7. haha it does the job so far man. Most of them still ship with 4gb IIRC? Upgrading it would be hard because it's 2133mhz and it's not cheap.
  8. OK so I decided to get the MAC out and fit the platform. Closer. Yup, fair to say I'm super happy with that ! So it was time to sort the drive out.. And what I will be using it for, games. And this made me grin like an idiot.. It went from 2005 - reboot - 2008 - reboot - early 2013 (big alu mac) - reboot - late 2013 vacuum cleaner :D
  9. Dude no. No no no !!! LEDs - IIRC they were about £3 for 40. I used 10 in this part, so less than a pound. Acrylic = Hmm, probably used about 80p's worth? so this part was less than £2. Even the SSD box for the MSATA drive was about £7, so less than a tenner all in. I don't make expensive parts. The rig still cost £315 even with this part. In fact no, it's not £321 because I ordered that fan that cost £6. The case was £28. Always keep that in mind....
  10. Hi guys. Bit of a hiatus on this I'm afraid. I will be working on it again soon and have the materials for the next phase of modding. However, I just bought this. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-002-AS&groupid=701&catid=11 And will be making a back plate etc for it, as well as modding the front and top of the case soon ! X8 is not finished but it is now at the point where it's all small jobs so I can get back to doing this too
  11. Monitor has two HDMI and one VGA. I won't be using the KVM to switch monitors dude Ed. So what I will do is use DVI-HDMI cables. I know I'm using one now on the PC.... A short while later...
  12. Update. So as of now the MAC is sitting with a cover over it whilst I figured out how I can hook it up. In the end I found this. Which has three USB sockets (so keyboard, mouse and sound card) and two inputs from the PC. This way I can just hook my stuff into the KVM and use both computers with one set of peripherals. My monitor has three inputs so I will simply plug both BPM and X8 into the monitor and switch inputs. Right now the SSD stand is setting. I have glued on the side parts so theoretically it should be ready to mount once the glue sets and I can clean the edges. Here it is being tested. And the side the SSD will mount to.
  13. OK so update. Here is something I've been working on for the past couple of days. To make that I had to cut two pieces of acrylic, then put them together in a glue sandwich before sanding and cleaning and polishing the edges. Like so, and then drilling ten holes through the black side only. And the sides, pre fab. OK so time for some LEDs. I don't even want to get into how long this took, nor how utterly mind numblingly boring it was. OK so test fit. Good shit, then glue. And put to one side to set. I also made a SATA braid cable/extension/converter thing. So not much left to do now... I also ordered a fan for the side intake. LEDs, which is kinda nice. But the real reason I bought it is this. Which should work on the outside of the case. I am going to bondo/filler the Aerocool logo and repaint it in white...
  14. Hey thanks man ! There's actually still loads to do. Right now I am making a stand for the iSSD which will contain 10 white LEDs and should all light up. I've taken two sheets of 5mm Acrlyic, white and black, and have sandwiched them together to make a stand that the SSD will sit on. Then there are two angled brackets it mounts onto once done and it should all glow. Obviously I've got to braid some more wiring for that too.. Then there's the PCIE exhaust fan that I had planned from the beginning. I was going to use a 92mm fan but ended up having to move the GTX 480 down a slot so a 92mm won't fit, so instead I have another San Ace or a small fan I took from an old Sky HD box... I want to get that waste heat out basically. Nicholas installed HWmonitor today and we were loling at the CPU's power draw. 13 watts at idle, idle temp was 31c. Load temps are around the late 40s... I think I broke it though by updating it haha the joys of OSX But yeah, keep an eye on the thread. I ain't quite done yet Edit. I still have to stitch all of the cables too. They look a bit hoopty atm..
  15. OK so after many hours of messing around Nicholas and I could not get the onboard sound working. As a stroke of luck I had only just bought this.. As a headphone amp for my PC. It worked straight away, phew ! so now there is sound. There is also this.. And this.. *Note. I'm only running 1280x1024. Hence the scores will be different if you are running higher. So then I made the floor pan for X8.. And my SSD conversion kit (it's MSATA) also arrived, which quickly ended up looking like this. iSSD !
  16. Roll on Yosemite. I can then give my mackintosh some really big teeth !

  17. If it's aluminium then you want to use an acid etch primer. Otherwise you may get small surface bubbles when you put down the primer. I have both types of primer but I was in a rush and used the basic white primer and I got some tiny bubbles that came up after the first coat. Thankfully I got away with it by letting the primer dry and then hitting it a few more times but yeah, I would advise using acid etch.
  18. If the drive isn't FUBAR then you are going to need to use Diskpart as well as running a low level format (complete rewrite all zeroes).
  19. Woopda ! I think this has changed too... It's now reporting the MAC as a 3.1
  20. Nicholas.. Just quick before I go out. I got it installed again. I did the tutorial I showed you and.... It works ! all I have to flag is npci-0x2000 and -v and I can boot in. All we need to do now matey is install a boot loader and permanently put the flags in. The only issue is monitor going to standby without ncpi=0x2000. Edit. We may also need to do the sound card.. The Voodoo CPU part has installed this time though without coming up with that error.
  21. OK so one to hold onto for the future then ! That's pretty cool I will be ready about 4:30 pm UK time dude. Should have a couple of hours spare.
  22. OK so an update. Nicholas and I have been fighting this thing for three days now. I can get OSX on there, that's not the issue. I can even get the GPU working properly to the point it almost runs Unigene Valley. It begins to build the screen, I get a FPS count, then it CTD. However, this CPU is being a royal pain in the jacksy. Every time we try and install Voodoo to get it running it refuses to install and then on reboot the installation is dead. I have other means I am going to try later when I get back home, but I may end up having to run it from one CPU core (for now). TBH? even on the one core it's perfectly snappy enough. However, I will most probably be changing the GPU as I just managed to buy a Powercolor Radeon R290 4gb for £130. At that price even if it does not work with OSX I will keep it to one side as a stand in. Great GPU at silly money.
  23. Celeron 300A is one of Intel's best chips ever. They're still used to this day. Mind you, I guess what you could say was even more popular was the ARM that Acorn developed in the 80s...
