Separation of Windows Services
 
If your system has more than 3.5GB of RAM, Windows 10 will now separate all its services as separate processes. This means that under Task manager > Detail tab, you'll see a wall of "svchost.exe". Why? The separation of services to individual processes, does consume a bit more RAM over when they are regrouped, but gives the following advantages:
Increase in transparency. You see which service consumes how much system resources (CPU, RAM, disk).
  No guess work. You can now see which service exactly is consuming your system resources, and can better identify the faulty service that has a problem on your side, and can take proper action, instead of guessing your way, and trying random things.
  Increase reliability. Similarly to how Chrome or Edge works, where if a tab crashes, not the entire web browser dies, but rather just the tab. If a service crash (say your Audio due to a buggy drivers, for example), then only that service will crash, and will not take down other services it regrouped with it.
  Increase security. By separating each service as its own process,  it prevent exploits from entering through one service to hijack the other service within the same process. In addition, it allows IT to set permissions for each services without affecting other services.

If you use the Linux subsystem in Windows 10, you'll be please to hear that Windows 10 Creators Update features an updated version of Ubuntu. It is now using Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS. Surprise discoveries
Thanks to @NumLock21. ReFs is a format able format option of a drive. Looks like it isn't bootable one (so you can't have WIndows on it), but very nice feature.

  MBR to GPT conversion tool is included in Windows 10. This tool give you the ability to convert your drive from MBR to GPT partition style so that your system is fully UEFI ready. This is great for those who started with Windows 7 on a fully UEFI compatible motherboard, and went to Windows 10. Normally, you need to do a full drive wipe, and restart from scratch. This tool keep your data, and does the conversion. More information, and tutorial on to use the tool (fairly easy) here.

makes sense tbh it would actually be more impressive if it was backward since 7 is older and has less features, removing the vulnerabilities that overlap from both. the ones 10 has on its own must be from feature that aren't in 7 and other releases of windows

The primary contenders are the members of the III-V semiconductor family. CNT I believe is still a pipe dream until 2025.
 
Silicon-Germanium (GloFo has chosen this one since IBM already had R&D done)
Gallium Arsenide (has a vastly higher upper limit on switching speeds and doesn't suffer from Silicon's electrical instability)
Molybdenum Disulphide (the only other member which the industry together thinks can be ready for CMOS processes by 2020).

What is the score for other headphones? Surely most of them are not at all user service able? For a device that small I don't really see how they could make it user serviceable without making it quite a bit more bulky.

Actually some headphones are really good. For example my Plantronics wireless earphones can be popped open and have the battery replaced pretty darn easily. Battery is about the only user serviceable part on most of them, but considering the high chance of battery issues, it's a very useful repair.

I know I'm late to the party on this, but I got my Surface Book a couple months ago, just before the new one was announced. Yes, I knew it was coming, but these things happen, and I got a pretty serious deal on this thing.
 
As I said, I've had mine for a couple months now, which I believe to be the same trim level Linus reviewed (i7/16GB/512GB/dGPU).
 
I bought it because I'm in college, and I really wanted one device that could meet the arbitrary whims of different professors' technology policies (I shit ye not, this semester alone I had one class where anything goes, so I used it as a laptop; one class where tech was verboten, so it had to stay in my bag; and two where tablets were ok, but not laptops). So this just looked like it would do a better job of being all things to all classes (well, 3/4 isn't bad).
 
So I've spent a fair amount of time with it as both a laptop, and as a tablet, and here are my thoughts:
I fucking love this thing. Not only is it epic in either mode, but the performance well exceeds my expectations on a regular basis.
Battery: Forgot to charge it after I got home and didn't realize it til the next day when running off to class? No problem. Its standby battery life is absurd given its specs. My Chromebook, which used to live in my bag for note-taking purposes, is now gathering dust. Gaming? I installed Hearthstone simply because I imagined playing on a touchscreen this big would kick ass (and it does) but then, while I had Battle.net there, anyway, I thought "lol, let's see what WoW looks like at 3FPS".....but it doesn't run at 3FPS. No, running at the settings optimized by GeForce Experience (which, also, "holy shit, what?" runs on this thing) it pulls a consistent ~40FPS, with highs in the 60s when not running dungeons, raids, or world boss encounters with several dozen other players. I recently bought the latest Razer Naga for my gaming rig, as my old one was over 4 years old, but after this fun discovery, the old one now lives in my bag. I can easily play WoW on the go, without anything I'd consider a "compromise," unless you'd count not having my 30-inch 4K with me everywhere I go. I guess this 13.5" 3000x2000 will just have to suffice (#firstworldproblems). My fiancee now has the ROG laptop I used to carry, and I don't miss it. Pen? I really wasn't sure how much of a pain in the ass the pen would be, but like Linus says, it sticks to that edge like glue. As memory serves, for all the times I've pulled it out of my bag, the pen has only stayed behind twice. In two months. And as for actually using it....I really don't have anything to compare it to. I've owned a Wacom before, but never a Cintiq, so writing/drawing directly on-screen is new for me. I can't believe how well it works, especially with no calibration options to be found. The only issues I've had with it involve occasional stupidity about the eraser-clicks (once for OneNote, twice for screenshots) not working properly after waking from sleep. Cycling Bluetooth off and back on usually fixes this, and it's a minor annoyance, as the pen doesn't fail to write/draw or erase when this happens. Converting: Switching between laptop and tablet modes is one of those things you just have to remember you can do, and then I found I got used to it very quickly. Unless something is using the dGPU, holding that second button from the right on the top row and listening for the click became something I could do without looking. When using it as a "tablet," I most often detach the screen, turn it around, and fold it down like in the image below, because the slight angle is actually convenient, and because it allows it to use that battery, and the dGPU. I'm no artist, but I've dicked around in Photoshop CC, and I'm impressed. I wish like hell I'd had this back when I was editing photos for a living.

I'm sure the new one performs even better, with even better battery life, but I just have to say....the old one's no slouch.

Windows is actually not doing so well. I mean if we ignore MS efforts:
You want to develop an app on Android and iOS -> Get a Mac You want to do back-end web development -> Get a Mac or run Linux. You want to work on an IoT device /  embedded system -> Run Linux. Windows is stuck in the PC space that is dying, being replaced by mobile phones for most users. And more and more developers are indeed buying Macs or running Linux as pointed right above. Windows Phone is not picking up anything. This is shrinking Windows marketshare. It is in a path of a slow death. I mean, just imagine all game devs makes a Linux version of their game... Apple returns to be Enterprise friendly (to any level), OR Android implements Continuum, and voila, Windows is pretty much dead. It is in Microsoft best interest to make Windows the go to platform to do things.

THIS is exactly why I've always defended piracy and will always do so.

Probably... I just wish they'd finish consolidating it with "Settings".  Well, tbh I don't care so much but it must be very confusing for some people to have to go to one place for some things and another for others.

This was bug in Win7. I'm going to assume MS hasn't fixed it in newer versions either.

YouTube channel AdoredTV has conducted some tests about Pascal per-core performance, proving his former statement that consumer Pascal is basically Maxwell on steroids.

From this video we can see that the 980Ti has a slight advantage over the 1080 when running at the same clockspeed (due to the higher core count), while the two cards perform equally if their TFLOPS values are adjusted to the same level (achieved by severel downclocking the 1080 and slightly underclocking the 980Ti)

There are obviously some advantages on the software side for Pascal, but this tests were all about performance per core, which is practically the same across the two architectures. That's also why AMD could have easily reached NVIDIA performance and efficiency wise this time (but it sadly failed).
