  1. Thanks for all the feedback. Also, does overclocking disable Turbo Boost?
  2. I'm wondering whether it'd be worth spending the extra $30 for the unlocked core. I have an ASUS Z97-A motherboard, and a Hyper 212 cooler(I'm upgrading from a Pentium G3258). It'll mainly be used for things like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, and some gaming if I have the time. I'm a bit on the fence as to whether or not I'd even want to overclock it when I first get it. Now, I've seen Linus's video comparing the overclocking power of the Pentium and the 4970K, but I just don't have the money to replace it if it gets fried in the process. Still, I plan on having this CPU for a long time - assuming it doesn't die on me for no reason - and it only makes sense that I'd want to overclock it eventually to give myself more power before I inevitably have to upgrade to Skyake or whatever architecture is out when I upgrade again.
  3. I've already TRIED plugging my monitor into the motherboard. Nothing happened! The monitor stayed blank and Windows didn't see any other monitors. What I want to know is HOW to use integrated graphics with the graphics card. Is there a setting in the BIOS? Is there a program I need? All I could find out thus far is that it's NOT as simple as just plugging-and-playing.
  4. I have a GTX 650 Ti installed on an ASUS Z97-A motherboard. I have 2 monitors plugged into the graphics card(VGA and HDMI), and I want to know if there's a way to plug another VGA-compatible monitor directly into my Z97-A and have it run off of my CPU's integrated graphics. I've already tried using a DVI-D-to-VGA adapter, but the one I have doesn't work because DVI-D is digital only(I was unaware of this when I bought the adapter). Also, would using the CPU's integrated graphics lower overall performance for the rest of my computer?
  5. Now, one more question: When I did Linus's method of overclocking the Pentium, I opened AI Suite, and my voltage was constantly at about 1.2 volts(it was a couple millivolts higher). Aside from any temperature concerns, is this a problem? Is there a way to set it so it's not constant? I didn't want to linger in my BIOS for too long(I'm afraid I might accidentally click on something and completely fuck up my computer), and I didn't see any options to do so.
  6. Well, I tried it today, but for different reasons. I was cleaning the dust out of my computer today, and messed up my RAM somehow, so after I fixed it, I installed and ran Aida64 to stress test the RAM.
  7. OK, I took ApolloX75'ss advice, and used different temperature monitors at the same time. I used Realtemp, HWinfo64, and AI Suite. Realtemp and HWinfo64 were both about the same, but AI Suite was showing temperatures that were about 10 degrees cooler on average. So... I guess I'll have to use different parameters when setting up the 5-Way Optimization. Thanks for your help.
  8. I tried to overclock my Pentium G3258 the other day with the stock cooler. I used the same method Linus used in this video, except I have a Z97-A, not a Z97-C(12:02): I did exactly what he did, then booted my computer, started a stress test, and checked my temperatures. The two programs I used were Realtemp and ASUS AI Suite. Immediately it looked like there was something wrong: Realtemp was saying that my CPU temperature was reaching into the 70s, but AI Suite was saying I was well into the mid-40s. Which of these should I trust? I would really like to know because I was going to use ASUS 5-Way Optimization when I got my Hyper 212, and have it set so that when it got to a certain temperature, it would stop. But now that I'm getting two DRASTICALLY different temperature readings, I don't know if I'm going to use it.
  9. I had a lot of fun making this. EDIT: In case it matters, my specs are: Pentium G3258 ASUS GTX 650 Ti OC 2GB 12GB RAM ASUS Z97-A Motherboard 2TB HDD 450W PSU Antec 900 Case

I can't imagine how buttery After Effects will be on a graphics card of that caliber(or a PC of that caliber, assuming we reach 50,000 posts).
